1st half winner = explorer ; Patriots: 12     Eagles: 22
2nd half winner = explorer ; Patriots: 33     Eagles: 41

Hey-ya guys, after having a pretty good turn out in this years first Monero fantasy football league (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1971415.0) and last years "Monero Madness" (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1812750.0); I just wanted to post this up here and see how much interest I could get into trying to get a Super Bowl Pool going between some fellow friends in (or who would like to join) the Monero community.  There will be more information to come, but generally the idea is this:

Here's how to play:

There are 100 "squares" and people can buy up as many squares as they want.  What each square should be worth is still to be determined and I will be up for any recommendations.  The X-axis, in green, will be designated to the Eagles and the Y-axis, in blue, will be designated to the Patriots.  When you declare you want to purchase some squares, make sure you declare what square(s) you want in coordinate form (X, Y).

After all 100 squares are all bought up, we will calculate who gets what square based off block hashes after the deadline, February 4th @ 8 AM EST.

Official Countdown Timer (https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/afootball?iso=20180204T08&p0=179&msg=Super+Bowlero+Pool+Deadline+Countdown&font=cursive)

After we calculate squares for all the participants across the X and Y axis by using the hashes of blocks, you will be rooting for each team's last digit of their score to match up to your square.

For instance:

Say you bought 1 square and and your square lines up with a 4 and a 7.  If, by chance, it was your lucky day and the score ends up being

Eagles: 24
Patriots: 7

You would win.

How we conclude who gets what square

On the thread I had on /r/Monero trying to get people to play, someone came up with a really good idea in order to randomly generate square spots.  I'm still open to doing something else or doing things like I initially proposed if it seems better, but I suggest everyone to read this reply (https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/7sibcd/1st_annual_super_bowlero_pool_come_sign_up_to/dt6d7vl/) I got in terms of assigning people squares.

Each block has a hash value that is (ostensibly) different, correct?

Its a hex value, so you would just take the last 4 of the block hash value.

So you have a list from 1-100 that looks like

    Steve H - 1
    Steve H - 2
    Ryan R - 1
    Ryan R - 2
    Ryan R - 3
    Jenny O - 1

and so on until it fills up the 100 slots. Those are listed in the order in which they reserve a spot, or make a payment and submit proof of payment.

Then, You take the hash value of the block from a starting point (any starting point) and pick off the last four.

So lets say you started with Block Number 1494281

You have the following hashes:
Block    Hash    Last 4
1494281    fc34be5df26d2e16b48a36a08610d954ad1a6dc47d0a5f7f6eec26ea52375d6a    5d6a
1494282    8c828f32d546be4a2e6338c872e7da06bf570a849eb49c240a030b464b7b120a    120a
1494283    11741a4c52d6d47cb8ead385a98666973feb3c14e6ea9db61180eae9baebe75b    e75b
1494284    15fa9ef91d900bc63269be01b92bbd3cc35c357dcc9847ce85ba66bd176fa83c    a83c
1494285    50cc89198976f7c9a909926fbfb99959368fe7e66dc45e9d0bccbd5bc88163e2    63e2
1494286    fb669cadc01ddfad8e2dda62572930f42b997982d351c55ffc67da5e4b811f06    1f06

Those get assigned to the list of square owners.
Square Owner    Last 4
Steve H - 1    5d6a
Steve H - 2    120a
Ryan R - 1    e75b
Ryan R - 2    a83c
Ryan R - 3    63e2
Jenny O - 1    1f06

Sort those in ascending (or descending) and you would get this:
Square Owner    Last 4    Rank
Steve H - 1    5d6a    3
Steve H - 2    120a    1
Ryan R - 1    e75b    6
Ryan R - 2    a83c    5
Ryan R - 3    63e2    4
Jenny O - 1    1f06    2

Rank is equal to squares on your grid, so your layout would look like
Square Owner    Last 4    Rank (Square #)
Steve H - 2    120a    1
Jenny O - 1    1f06    2
Steve H - 1    5d6a    3
Ryan R - 3    63e2    4
Ryan R - 2    a83c    5
Ryan R - 1    e75b    6

How to enter:

We will have to find someone to escrow... I'm all up for using Jwinterm again, but if someone else has a better idea let everyone know here in this thread.

You can verify that you have paid by using https://xmrchain.net/

For example (using the link above), here is mine:

1. Enter in the Transaction Hash:

... then click 'Search'.

- You can see that something was in fact sent there, but you can't see where too or how much (thanks Monero!).  So in order to verify I didn't short change the wallet, scroll down to 'Decode outputs'.

I may or may not play..  but I would be glad to escrow if the community feels I am trustworthy enough.

I know we are SO close to multi-sig.  Would be great to be able to use that for this! But it could be a complex setup. ;)

Thanks! Definitely appreciate it... I know that would be pretty cool to use that right about now  :-\  Oh well, we'll see what other people think when/if more people show up wanting to play.

Well, it seems we always over shoot a realistic price *cough* FFL *cough cough*... I think 2 xmr is a pretty good chunk of USD to win on a pool game like this based on random luck.  So maybe .02 per square?  Hopefully there will be some other people showing up soon who might have some opinions on the matter

Sounds good, if I can get my btc back from coinbase and grab some Monero's in time I'll buy some squares. Teach me to try to pull out when BTC was 17k thinking I could get back in with M0ar! :D

I would like to lock up 07 and 70 for now.

Also JW is fine for Escrow again or cAPSLOCK, both are trustworthy and .02 sounds good.

Ok sounds good... just know that "locking up" those spots doesn't mean those spots are guaranteed to have the same numbers associated with it.  I'll put you in those spots in the mean time though :)

Yeah we're gonna pull from a hat, just trying to be funny. :)

So IOw put me down for 2 definite spots right now. And I fully expect that combination to get pulled from the blockhain for me. :P

Ok, I updated the OP so far.  But so far so good! We got more people wanting to play within the first day than we could muster up for fantasy football; so that in itself is a good sign.

(roughly quoted here)
Quote
Each block has a hash value that is (ostensibly) different, correct?

Its a hex value, so you would just take the last 4 of the block hash value.

So you have a list from 1-100 that looks like

    Steve H - 1
    Steve H - 2
    Ryan R - 1
    Ryan R - 2
    Ryan R - 3
    Jenny O - 1

and so on until it fills up the 100 slots. Those are listed in the order in which they reserve a spot, or make a payment and submit proof of payment.

Then, You take the hash value of the block from a starting point (any starting point) and pick off the last four.

So lets say you started with Block Number 1494281

You have the following hashes:
Block    Hash    Last 4
1494281    fc34be5df26d2e16b48a36a08610d954ad1a6dc47d0a5f7f6eec26ea52375d6a    5d6a
1494282    8c828f32d546be4a2e6338c872e7da06bf570a849eb49c240a030b464b7b120a    120a
1494283    11741a4c52d6d47cb8ead385a98666973feb3c14e6ea9db61180eae9baebe75b    e75b
1494284    15fa9ef91d900bc63269be01b92bbd3cc35c357dcc9847ce85ba66bd176fa83c    a83c
1494285    50cc89198976f7c9a909926fbfb99959368fe7e66dc45e9d0bccbd5bc88163e2    63e2
1494286    fb669cadc01ddfad8e2dda62572930f42b997982d351c55ffc67da5e4b811f06    1f06

Those get assigned to the list of square owners.
Square Owner    Last 4
Steve H - 1    5d6a
Steve H - 2    120a
Ryan R - 1    e75b
Ryan R - 2    a83c
Ryan R - 3    63e2
Jenny O - 1    1f06

Sort those in ascending (or descending) and you would get this:
Square Owner    Last 4    Rank
Steve H - 1    5d6a    3
Steve H - 2    120a    1
Ryan R - 1    e75b    6
Ryan R - 2    a83c    5
Ryan R - 3    63e2    4
Jenny O - 1    1f06    2

Rank is equal to squares on your grid, so your layout would look like
Square Owner    Last 4    Rank (Square #)
Steve H - 2    120a    1
Jenny O - 1    1f06    2
Steve H - 1    5d6a    3
Ryan R - 3    63e2    4
Ryan R - 2    a83c    5
Ryan R - 1    e75b    6

What does everyone think of this?  Then maybe I can just randomly generate numbers for the X and Y somehow and so that way when someone wins everyone can be rest assured that it's truly just the luck of the draw.  If we are doing it this way then we can set the deadline to enter before kick off just long enough for 100 blocks to go through and allow enough time for us/me to go through it and assing squares to everyone.

Also, how much do people want to set price per square?

0.02 moneronis seems good to me. About $6.30 each square today.

Any interest in having a winner each quarter?

0.02 xrm ok for me. I'm also ok for splitting by quarters or halves or one big pot, whatever people want to do.

This sounds fine to me, it's not like we are trying to generate a random seed for a genesis block of a trusted system. :D

I was thinking of this too and agree.

Alright, so I think it has been agreed that we are doing 0.02 monero/square for a 2 XMR Jackpot...

Everyone start telling me how many squares they want and who they want to act as escrow.  After that has been decided, the escrow will need to provide a public address and private view key so we can all verify payments.

Everyone start telling me how many squares they want and who they want to act as escrow.  After that has been decided, the escrow will need to provide a public address and private view key so we can all verify payments.

With only 6 players, we'll need 16-17 entries each to fill up the grid. I'll commit to 10 entries but can go more, if necessary. Obviously, it would be much better if we get more participants but we got a week to go.

jwinterm is fine for escrow but what about asking fluffypony? Maybe he can add a bonus to the pot (and get some attention for the pool!)  ;D

I'll buy a minimum of 10 and willing to buy the board for whatever doesn't sell. If you guys want I'm fine with being escrow.

Look at Mr. Moneybags over here... Overly confident after winning that cool 5 XMR FFL jackpot aren't we?? heheh... :D :D

I'll start advertising a little bit more once we get closer to gameday this upcoming week.  Maybe jwin can help spread word with his crew over at /r/cryptocurrencies?  And I'm more than ok with jwinterm always being escrow for little gambling shenanigans I run; I was just assuming there was a chance of more new comers wanting to play and not knowing who he was and would want a more well known "escrowy" type of person on the forum.  Not to mention Ric is South African... his interest in participating in anything associated with American Football is probably the same as me being interested in participating in a gambling pool for a Cricket match.

I'll put both you guys down for ten squares, plus 10 for me as well.  Hueristic, I still got you at 2 squares, but if you want more just let me know.  That goes for anyone else wanting to play from here forth.  If everyone is still ok with Jwinterm being escrow, I'll be talking with him soon in order to get a pool wallet set up and will provide the information needed to go ahead and in their moonertos to the pot.

Look at it this way, this is more than likely the last time we have to have an escrow with full trust in said escrow person... multisig soon™.

Alright I'm going to update the OP with a wallet generated by jwinterm for the escrow wallet.  We need some more people from what it looks like kinda last minute; so invite the whole famn damily to play.

I'm in. What are you thinking for buy in?

Well, it seems we always over shoot a realistic price *cough* FFL *cough cough*... I think 2 xmr is a pretty good chunk of USD to win on a pool game like this based on random luck.  So maybe .02 per square?  Hopefully there will be some other people showing up soon who might have some opinions on the matter

.02 per square needs to be placed in the OP. And if JW has no issue taking my Paypal I'll take 10 squares.

Don't count on me, count on the block # whatever is after the 12 PM count down... I guess we can all decide on which one to go off of tomorrow, isn't the blockchain based on UTC timezone? Lol, ok... Well just know that I can work it out whenever and can be able to tell who won the pool no matter when.  We all just need to decide if we are splitting the pot for the winner of the first half and the second half/final score; or just have one winner for the final score.

Also, I think I'm going to try and get up earlier and do the calculations then so I don't have to worry about it when it gets close to me having to go to my SB party I'm going too.  So let's make the deadline 8 AM EST and so that way 100 blocks can pass in time for me to do the calculations around noonish... sound good to everyone?  If we don't have enough people to fill out the table, who is wanting to split the rest of the grid with jwinterm, explorer, and I?

Edit: Here is the new deadline countdown (https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/afootball?iso=20180204T08&p0=179&msg=Super+Bowlero+Pool+Deadline+Countdown&font=cursive)

Nah, go for it forevernoob! I’m still waking up and about to do calculations now.  I’ll go ahead and include you as if you have paid. Sorry, had a long night last night, lol.

forevernoob, how many squares you want?

Edit: looks like we are starting at block height 1502189 boys, I'll be updating the OP soon and assigning people squares.  Good luck everyone :)

Edit #2: I've updated it up 75, and left the 25 squares up for grabs... who wants them? Congrats explorer!

Cool!

You want to make me look at football to find out the scoring/squares, aren't you?  Not going to do it.  Someone will detail it here eventually  :P

Ohhhh phishead already updated the OP.  Nice work man!  I appreciate the effort you put into this (even before the win  :D )

lolol.

Tha... that's the spirit... :(

No problemo... Figuring out who got what squares was a pain in the ass, but I ended up staying home for the SB so I had extra time to keep on top of it... Next year I'll have to figure out a simpler way to pick squares.  :P

I think phishead only sent 0.14 when he was supposed to send 0.18, but whatever, go eagles!

Iggles are looking pretty good right about now.

But nah, there was some last minute people trying to get more squares at the end... you and Hueristic ended up getting 6 more along with LennyCarl and I got 7 more... so that would be 0.14

If you have time, Armstrong's life and models are well worth looking at.  Or find the film that was made "The Forecaster".  Banned in USA, of course LOL

Thanks!  Yeah, hopefully a lot more players next time.  I hoped the double draw would at least reduce the chance of buying the pot, but I guess my luck is in  8)  I've had a really good weekend, and a couple moneroj is a fine icing on the cake!

Congratulations explorer and thanks phishead for the work you put in. This was a cool game.

Can anybody tell me if Shelby is insane, like schizophrenic maybe? I spent a lot of time reading his posts a while ago and came out of it feeling like I'd been duped into wasting my time. He writes so much and says so little, it's really frustrating. Also do you have any concrete recommendations you've taken out of Armstrong's research? Are any of his paid products worthwhile?

Shelby is a little full of himself, as many intelligent people are, and does a lot of tail chasing.  Sanity is harder to nail down.  Stupid unimaginative people may appear sane, but maybe they are just stupid and unimaginative, hmm?  Crazy people may just be on another wavelength, not necessarily having a short circuit.  I'm certainly not going to point any fingers in the sanity field.  Not until I get out of this I Love Me jacket, anyway  :D

I haven't paid for any Armstrong products, but his major calls on world/economic/social/political events are astounding,  years or decades ahead, and he sells out his conferences to a very high powered crowd.  I don't trade anything in the legacy system,( just watch what's locked in bleed) so trading calls don't interest me, just the trends and reversals for their prescience.  His understanding of crypto seems cursory, at best despite being a coder and an economist/trader, but there's not much history for him to work from, and he's old.  Worth a dive down the rabbit hole, just to see the depth and breadth of his data sets.  Don't worry, despite the horrible lack of proof reading, he's much easier to read than SM3.

Banned for truth telling.  Not prohibited banned, just wouldn't let them show it in theaters or TV.  Most of the sheep won't go beyond that to see it anyway.

No problem, I'm just going to have to figure out an easier way to do this same thing for next years super bowl... meh, we'll see.

But yes, I do intend to run this years second annual Monero Madness (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1812750.0)... Crazy to think a year has been past since running my first one of these forum based gambling games.

I'll have a thread up some time relatively soon and will update you guys here, as well as the other threads (MFFL, Monero Madness, etc.)... Last years winner was DrHiggins who won a whopping 14 XMR  :o

Shelby is still posting. Now under yet another username https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1542991

Yeah he is certainly smart. I think it's just the self importance and he volume of his posting that reminds me of literal schizophrenics that I've seen in the past and I'm just worried that in this case he is a schizo that is smarter than me so that even if he is a crazy person I can't easily prove him wrong. I ask because I do take a lot of what he says seriously. Always good to get extra opinions.

I like Martin Armstrong's blog and I read it occasionally. Some very interesting stuff there. Do you know the best way to see his data sets? Would subscribing to his Socrates thing be useful?

Not for crypto, but if trading forex or really anything else from stocks to real estate, I imagine it would be well worth it. I've been reading his blog for years.  I quit for a year or so during the US elections, because WTF.  Just like all other media, it was 4/5 posts and I just don't fucking care.  You can only register so much corruption before it all sounds the same.  Anyway, as I said before, I don't trade, so I get what I need from the free blog.  Try it and tell us how it goes  :)  The fact that everything moves in cycles, often complex cycles within cycles, is not new.  What Armstrong has done is link the cycles of EVERYTHING together, for a more complete picture, finding new cycles along the way.  Its like a big puzzle, and the more pieces you have the easier it is to guess or recreate the picture.
