Title: Serp error coin Post by: miffman on August 28, 2013, 05:57:45 PM So I discovered one of my two serp funded aluminum Casascius coins have an error. It is loaded with .05BTC The firstbits don't correspond with the address on blockchain.info
The firstbits are 16j2e I 'might' sell it. I want to know what would you offer for it? So far, this is the only one out of his 3 batches of 48. Looking it up on block chain, I see that the address it goes to, the first bits are all capitalized, and it was loaded in 2011. I think what may have happend is by chance the first bits of your coin happen to be the same as the first bits of that address, which held a balance well before your coin did. First bits are not case sensitive it seems.

During the creation process I used blockchain.info's api to get the first bits. Apparently there was a timing or indexing issue there because the bits returned ended up changing. Lesson learned, I'll not rely on that method in the future.
I have not found any other coin that is mislabeled but I will be running a script to verify them all here shortly. You are right. I just ran them through and checked them via script. All of v0.1 and v1 are labeled with the correct first bits. 44 out of 48 coins in v2 are labeled 1 character too short. For version 2, coins #20, #29, #33, and #41 are the only ones labeled with the full first bits. Sorry about that all and thanks for bringing it more to my attention. Serp hasn't made any new coins thus far, so it is a bit rarer ;) nevertheless, I will still consider any offer
