Title: [IDEA] How to stop people complaining
Post by: sparg on January 30, 2018, 09:00:53 AM
This forum had transformed itself from a platform were people could find information and discuss different topics into a freelancing platform. You could call it however you whant but most of the users here are registered mainly for the bounty campaigns and just some for the information. (In some cases for both of them).
This doesen`t mean that this is a bad thing because crypto world means that we all here to make money. And from this platform both parties have to win: owners need users to get bigger fees to advertise, users earn thanks to bounty campaign from wich the sig campaign pays the best.

The biggest problem i see is that most of newbies spam like hell to get the required activity and after subscribing to a bounty campaign they post to match the reguirement of the campaign. Here, a part of the fault is that the campaign manager require 25-30 post per week so they could be forced to ask for a max of 10 so that users should make some useffull post in order to reach the 14 post neded to reach the activity.

But the main idea i got is to change this " you need both a certain activity level and a certain merit score in order to reach higher member ranks".
Why not chat this into : " You need a certain activity level OR a certain merit score ..." and change the required activity to a higher number like this:

Rank            Required activity   Required merit
Brand new                0                            0
Newbie                1                            0
Jr Member                100                     0
Member                200                   10
Full Member        340                   100
Sr. Member        540                   250
Hero Member        800                   500

By setting this kind of high value you would stop all ursers that moan about never ranking up, and you will give a real value to those users that really give quality content for this forum. Also Hero and Legendary account will mean something because there will be a clear distiction from the rest of users.
Also this way you will reward real hard working users and encourage them to add value to the content.

I am not sure what makes you think that but I highly disagree. Most of the sections are filled with people discussing bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, not with leeches trying to earn a few dollars. I personally would love to see higher required merit for lower ranks, to prevent people from joining signature campaigns.

Nah. I don't think you should be able to bypass ranks just by getting the merit points. This would make farming points much more lucrative. I think you should have to put in the effort over time and anyone making half decent posts will very likely get the points before the activity anyway. Ranks are still a good indication of how active of a member you have been but the merit points will be a great indicator of the quality of contributions and the two combined together work well for an even better 'score' in my opinion. Most people are moaning at the fact that they have to put in effort now to get anywhere so making the activity higher would likely just lead to even more complaints.

The stats at this moment are like this:

Alternate cryptocurrencies:
9 457 843 posts
137609 topics

Bitcoin
3 250 420 posts
148414 topics

OTHER + ECONOMY
10 762 293 posts (WITH ARCHIVAL)
495243 topic

So, you see, people are posting mostly in altcoin because they are interested in ICO`s and sig campaign wich require you on the most campaign to post in the Altcoin Discussion. And we should take into account that altcoins are more recent than bitcoin.

And about  "leeches trying to earn a few dollars". You should not judge people for trying to make some money because we dont have the same chances like others, and lets not forget that crypto will only evolve if we get it to as much people as possible and make them trust is and adopt it.
Crypto is about liberty and equality of chances, thats the way i see it.

You can't tell the amount of signature spammers just by looking at post statistics. A lot of posts are being made in non-garbage ICO topics like the ones from Litecoin, Monero, Decred, Ethereum, Viacoin etc.

I don't judge people but I do judge their behaviour. A lot of people are posting random stuff, just to meet the requirements of a signature campaign. They don't contribute intellectual content to this forum (or contribute anything at all). The merit-system shouldn't reward or encourage such behaviour.

Let us not forget that the Altcoin section post count also includes all the "signed up for the airdrop" and "reserved for translation" etc. posts. Not to mention a lot of shilling. ;)

So, you see, people are posting mostly in altcoin because they are interested in ICO`s and sig campaign wich require you on the most campaign to post in the Altcoin Discussion. And we should take into account that altcoins are more recent than bitcoin.
It's not a good thing that users are coming strictly to participate in bounties and to qualify for airdrops. That can only result in the self-destruction of the forum.

And about  "leeches trying to earn a few dollars". You should not judge people for trying to make some money because we dont have the same chances like others, and lets not forget that crypto will only evolve if we get it to as much people as possible and make them trust is and adopt it.

That is not an excuse to post shittily or about things you don't understand. If someone is trying to hop into a technical conversation and juxtaposes it with layman's jargon and general/vague terms that are common knowledge (in the space) then it doesn't contribute to anything. It merely detracts from it.

And when you see broken English in an English section, what are you supposed to say? You wouldn't see any English-speaking users try to hop into the Local sections and start jabbering off in terrible Turkish (as an example).
Viacoin
Go VIA!

English is a language of international circulation. The last time i checked turkish was not. You want only native speakers to post in what it is 90% of the forum? Sorry but i consider this to be a very narrow minded sugestion. Cryptocurrency should not be the privilege of those who speak english perfectly.

Crypto isnt only for native English speakers, but as you say this forum is for native English speakers..

if you don't like it - go and play with the code of the forum and create your own Turkish version, with your own airdrops, Sig campaigns, bounties and shitposters.. see how hard it is to create a community of people who want to learn and help each other. Then if you are lucky and get 100K plus hits a week we can all come in there and start speaking TurkEnglish and fuck up the place for you..  you could even have your own hookers and blackjack there..

No, account farmers will rank up.

you will give a real value to those users that really give quality content for this forum.

No, Will force users to make long posts or make some edit of merit posts.

Hero and Legendary account will mean something because there will be a clear distiction from the rest of users.

No, only "NEW" Hero and Legendary account will mean something  (after 6-18 months from now  ;D).

Also this way you will reward real hard working users and encourage them to add value to the content.

No, this mean 1 account will make high quality posts and sell merits (low amount 1-10 "too many member accounts").

I doubt it. This idea will completely nullify the merit system. If people can have the old system back with increased number of activities required to rank up, why did the admins/moderators even bother?

Because ranking up with activity only will take a lot of time and account farmers and spammers will be discouraged  by the long time it will take.

Hmmm, seems reasonable in terms of activities, but does this mean that if i received 10 merits i can jump to member? Since you gave importance to the word "or" you're saying that you can either choose which requirement would you like to rank up with? If i choose 10 merits although i'm a newbie who was for example given 10 merits, i could immediately rank up?
