Anybody would please make comment why alts are decreasing sharply ? It is correction or there is another speculation ?

It could be both but I think that the low prices are because of the changes in the financial laws in South Korea. 70% of the cryptocurrency investors are from Japan and Korea. What is happening there influences the price of cryptos in all the world. The laws that the Korean government issues, could be issued in our countries too and as you probably know trading anonymous in Korea is not possible anymore.
The old financial world is struggling to survive.

Crypto currency reacts pretty hard on any news. If it's bad news it goes down, if it's good news it goes up.
Alt coins are also heavily tied in with BTC. If BTC takes a fall most likely a lot of Alt coins will join the fall.

What I do when the markets are going down is just hodl. Don't panic sell. If I have some BTC left I even try to buy some cheap alt coins.

There is the news of the Tether/Bitfinex subpoena... although bizarrely Tether seems to be largely unaffected.

There have been a few big drops in the last couple of weeks, for various reasons. However the market is showing (and has been showing) a lot of resilience around the $500 billion mark, so hopefully we won't drop below that.

Look at BTC price - it was BTC correction due to news about Bitfinex and Tetcher probably. Usually all altcoins fall down during such BTC corrections (as in BTC as in dollar amount)

I think this was expected at least on my end.

 Looking at graphs for the last couple of years, it is clear that it drops a lot in January, then go up a little bit, to drop one more time.

We will not see a true bull run until we come into February.

At least that is my take on it.

Maybe both, in some sort a correction for sharp increase last month and because of what happen many hunters are double mind regarding slow recovery of coins.

crypto market crash always start with altcoins. This is scary for me.

Bitcoin price volatility is very high and fast. bitcoin up and down 1000 Usd to 500 Usd easily. This is big reason Alt coins Not stable and the price is going down.

I think it is influenced by the policies of all countries, but this is actually good news. The exclusion of timid people and those without technical support is even more beneficial to the entire cryptocurrency world.

Looking back at history, I find that there are usually red in January. But then the market will green again. Be rest assured and hold.

In my own opinion bitcoin discover its own weakness and that is by being so much expensive, the more it become expensive it will leads to overthrown investors to altcoins which is far better to make an investment than to bitcoin which has to much in pricing.

The end is near, time to sell weak hands. If you are for a long term hold, then forget it about it and check prices again after at least 6 months.

Yes ALT Coins are in red again because of BITCOIN is not stable . Hope When BITCOIN will be stable ALT Coins will be green

I know this correction for sure.
In my expectation, i dont hope this is permanent and i also learning from last year experience that altcoin price always have big dip correction like now. So i am not worry at all.

As always, when the volatility of bitcoin is too much. I think this is not all, and maybe even more red if bitcoin goes well below 10k

1) It may be an usual correction
2) It may be due to the decreased BTC price , because alts price are depending on BTC's one.

It may be because South Korea banned anonymous trading. Traders can no longer trade without a real name account that is linked to a bank. Not all banks are compliant yet, so many people in South Korea can't trade currently. But they will join banks that are compliant and volume will come back to the market soon. South Korea and Japan make up huge volumes of cryptocurrency trades, so they affect the market greatly. The good news is the volume will surely be back. South Korea is just trying to crack down on tax evasion and black market spending.

So... crypto currencies were always advertised as Decentralized... not controlled... and all that stuff.
But as it turns out there is always something (or someone) "Centralizing" or "Controlling" them... hence the price ups/downs  ;D

I believe that the adaptations in the financial laws in Asia have affected the market. A large percentage of the cryptocurrencies investors are Asian and mostly from Japan and Korea.  These changes have affected everything on a global scale and something that's important to notice is that Trading in Asia and specifically in Korea is not possible if it's anonymous anymore so i guess these red coins and dips are partially the after effects of that.

I think the reason why alt coins are red or going down because crypto market crash and also because of bitcoin is unstable of its value.

It's straightforward because Bitcoin and Ethereum are dropping sharply and many Altcoin goes down it's like a domino effect. But do not worry about it as it will come back in a few days. But still be careful because it will still be able to keep going down.

It fell because bitcoin fell and all the coins went down with bitcoin, and I believe it will surely go back up, but at the same time it will also be able to clear some worthless coins, just like our merit mechanism, eliminating some non-quality posts .

I think it may be a big callback, with too much bad news recently, South Korea has implemented real-name accounts, China is further regulated, Japanese exchanges have been stolen NEM, facebook has banned the ICO ads and so on.
Investors lost confidence and everyone stayed on the sidelines.

so altcoins may be dropping due to the lack of investor in an altcoin as many investors in a coin will increase its price. So I'm pretty good at the many investors who buy altcoin because you're sure to earn it and raise its price.

Crypto market is always volatile and this prices down on all crypto currencies including bitcoin is due to many factor, correction and bad news like south korea bans crypto transactions are some of the factor affecting this but not these two factors alone is impacting the crypto market. If you watch the trend of crypto market, until June or July month all the crypto currencies will be in base price and after that it picks up.

This is the greatest fall for the last 2 weeks. So the last day of January 2018 will be remembered for it. I do not think that only South Korean events affect it. Russia also plans to control crypto. Hackers attack exchanges.  ???

I just thinking it will recover soon, whatever the causes.. honestly I'm really still believe, surely after that.. there will be a better things that would be to shifted it.
I think the some of the strongest causes is about prohibition, negativelly things, or distrust. It's better if we pick some altcoins that's really popular and can be trusted in interest to many investors/traders.

From my opinion the red alt happen because there is a lot of bad sentiments out there about cryptocurrency. From the value of bitcoin that have no shape, coin exchange in japan have been stole by hacker and facebook ban all the things about crypto in there. All that things make the trust of investor down to crypto. But it doesn't mean there is no correction later. As usual after the red line the currency price will back to normal.

it happens every year, at the beginning of the year very much altcoin is down. but in the middle of the year they will climb again with a high price.

and this is the right time when me and some people buy to save bitcoin, and wait until the normal price returns.

Yes all the coins are in red right now because as per what i watched on the news korea and china banned or lessened the cryprocurrencies in their country that is why all of the altcoins are in red right now.

Because altcoins' price are tied to bitcoin so if bitcoin's price decreased then altcoins' price will affected too. I can't conclude whether it's just usual correction or not. But there are some reasons why bitcoin's price decreased sharply like One of Japanese exchange that got hacked, Korean government that banned anonymous trading, USDT problem on bitfinex and the upcoming Chinese New Year.

I think this is common and it is very good to buy some altcoin, but do not sell altcoin when everyone panics.

This is pretty normal, I guess we're gonna have to wait to get closer to the end of Q1 for coins' roadmap goals to be achieved and announced, then things will go back in the green I believe.

This might be the start of the great fall of bitcoin,because from the past 4weeks the total marketcap of cryptocurrency market are declining.Hopefully i am wrong because if this really will happen most of the investors in bitcoin would transfer their money to some altcoins which i think it would be ethereum.Thats the only coin qualified to replace bitcoin's position if you ask me,it has solid platform and community like bitcoin has.

They're normal being red because people are selling their investments and it's about time to enjoy their investment profit because they deserve it.
But for us, we should be holding because we don't want to lose our investment.

It happen every Q1 of the year, i am not sure but based of my speculations

When Every new year starts off, people tend to get stress/more serious and not feeling relax. Hence, people would try to ditch things that make them feel uncomfortable like crypto, Huge volatility xd

Well its normal in the crypto world because if bitcoin goes down all decent alts will go down too but there are shits coin that will rise of the red days of btc we just have to take patience for the btc to rise again so that all alts will follow also

Friend as what we have noticed that if bitcoin will down it's price and this is the reason why altcoins were down also.Because we all know that bitcoin and altcoin is a partnership that's why they will come together if it increasing or decreasing.But i know it will green again which is to rising it's value.Just wait my friend and be patient because it's normal to make a volatile of all altcoins and bitcoins.

I'm not sure why bitcoin and some altcoins are still connected. Many exchange opened alternative sell option between ETH/Alts, or BCH/Alts. Yet BTC has still major influence.
I guess something is going on behind the doors. I especially looking forward for the tether audit results. If it fails, there maybe big crash first and then ETH & BCH might go moon rapidly.
Please check BTC graphs, it looks like controlled decrease, rather than sudden drop. Again...something fishy is going on.

it is normal if the prices is decreasing, just don't sell your coin if you see this, like ethereum, if this decreases the price of coin under it is also decreasing. just wait for the right time if you want to sell your coins, just be patience to your coins. in the future the price might increases to the moon, it could double or triple its prices.

I think it's a impact of ban of crypto trading in south korea and japan exchange hacks. All the bad news create a negative impact on this crypto market. so don't panic it can rise again very soon.

I think crypto is banned in South Korea and there has been some bad effect due to the hacking in Japan. However, soon enough crypto will come in better position

Well, it was India this time. Because the minister said that it doesn't recognize Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as legal tender, panic sellers are being manipulated again. Now it was below $9,600, and I'm expecting it to dip a bit more. The whales are waiting for this very moment to buy at a lower price.

As what I have remembered in the charts, the buying zone is between $8k to $10k, so I think it's a perfect time for the whales to buy at this price. As for the bulls, they've failed to defend the $10k mark and it's going all the way down.

Am I worried? Nope. It's fun to see these dips! That's why never rely your income source on cryptocurrency trading only. As for those who are still working, keep your job for now. You need to sustain yourselves. Stop looking at your Blockfolio now and start become productive on what you are doing.

Altcoin from time to  time will appreciate and depreciate in market price this doesn't mean anything it is just natural volatility that is second nature to Altcoin generally.  The time for Altcoin to appreciate will come and if you don't know what you are doing with your portfolio,  there will be a lot of regret.

I think that this is a temporary lull in connection with the political situation in the world.  A lot of bans have passed in Asia and besides in China is now a new year so everybody just don't think about the crypto now.

Of course, there are many factors that affect the price of crypto currency, but it is obvious that in these months the market is not very active. We need to wait and not do stupid things.  ;)

Altcoins decreasing is just a normal thing that can happen. But there is no need for any panic dump because it will be back on track soon. It really fluctuates fast and you don't have to worry. But if you are looking for a reason, I'm not really sure why because there is an article in Forbes that explains why cryptocurrencies dropped and that reason may not be the same for other days that coins prices dropped.

The main reason for the fall is that governments are planning further regulation of cryptocurrency markets.
Facebook's ban on ICO advertising is also bad news.

Alts? The whole market is red not only alts. It happens from time to time, unless you are really new to this, you would know that sometimes crashes like this happen even if there isn't a big reason. It will eventually recover but it takes time. People forget that the total market cap 2-3 months ago was around 190b and it's still around 500b right now.

Alot of people are taking profit than more money entering the space, I don't know when this trend will reverse itself but for me it is time to be picking up good projects that one feels it is currently undervalue, BTC at $8000 will be a great buy IMO

There is a broad fall in the crypto market today and all coins are down. This weakness has been around from more than a month and it can go on for some more time. Best thing to do in crypto is not to sell in Panic and look out for bottom fishing when the value is down substantially.

Now the market is on the correction. After a long and strong price increase in the autumn and winter of last year. When the correction is over, growth will begin. There is no constant growth or fall in prices. The market is cyclical.

Being a traders and users of digital currency or cryptocurrency or simply altcoin, we should be aware that those red dashes is just natural, those fluctuations and constant changing its value is just a natural cases. We should and must be wise on how were gonna do if we saw these red dashes, and most importantly don't panic.

Buy more / Hodl more.. these are the options u have right now, because when u buy a cryptocurrency  u agree that some of the days your BlockFolio will be in red, CMC too.
Facebook don't agree putting ICO's as advertise. That's bad because some of the directors of Facebook and the CEO of Messenger are holders in CoinBase .. That's really confusing.
And again i think is just a big speculation, because the world see how for less than 1 year much people start leave their jobs & start trading. (that's good, my opinion)
Although the people with more money (i mean the people behind the big sites, who have touched crypto) just provoke the users to sell their bitcoins, because in the end i think they want to shrink list of holders of BTC.

P.S The people who rule the world want to make this BOOM of money stabilized so... just earn money and dump after a profit that suit your life. Then live and spend ur money, because in 2-3 years if the users (here in bitcointalk and others) don't hodl, they will rule once again the money flow.

Right now, alts price is tied to btc. Btc goes down, alts go with it. As eth and fiat pairs grow in numbers, alts wont go down with btc anymore. Just hold and you'll see green again.

i think, bitcoin decrease rising, therfore altcoins are decrease sharply.

For me, It started on the 17th December 2017 when we saw some single big sell orders hitting the big crypto exchanges which stopped the ongoing all time high rallye. At this time the market was completely overbought and a lot of people took their money into the christmas holidays. The drop today was caused again by Reuters, a big new site, announcing that South Corea will ban all crypto currencies. After this announcement, the South Corean Finance Minister said clearly, that there will be no ban. So just cool down and HOLD for the next "green phase"! But be aware of chinese New Year on the 16th of Feb. 😁

Cryptocurrencies Market is very sensible to news. Lately, we heard many bad news about exchanges, regulations and countries banning cryptocurrencies that's why the market still red.
I hope we'll recover our losses soon.

Ya, it is due to bitcoin is not stable in market & down day by day, and also hears negative news from Asian crypto markets. First South Korea banned anonymous crypto trading. Second china banned initial coin offerings or ICOs for new virtual currencies. And third Indian finance minister stated that they were discontinue all crypto tradings in India. These types of news gave bad impact on market, but for short interval. And again u can see very soon that all coins touches there new high.

Now the market is on the correction. So do not worry. After correction, there will be a rise in prices. Although manipulation, too, should not be ruled out. Manipulations are constantly present in the crypt market.

The recent events may have caused it. First, maybe because of Korea allowing cryptocurrencies but with 24.2% of tax and a trading system that requires real names. And now, India banning cryptocurrencies. Several things have occured in a whole month of January only and maybe, soon, the coins will recover. Let us just wait and see.

There is a huge hype in the past month, the value of every coin in the market has increased massively because of bitcoins growth in the market last december and this is just an outcome right now that the value of other altcoins is decreasing, there's no need to worry because it will still go back to normal, always remember that the value of every coin is always depending on the supply and demand.

I think it's all about supply and demand.Also if bitcoin falls, alternative coins fall as well.As I said at the beginning, demand and transaction volume are important.

It is because of the bad news spreading about bitcoin and crypto currency, it affects hard in the market because people who plan to invest will decline, and other aspect is the coming Chinese New year this February, as for me I will hold my coins and wait for the next pop up of the market.

You must aware that altcoins are affected by bitcoin and in January South Korea, China, and recently India restrict their financial law about crypto currency. More country ban or restrict crypto currency will lead all cryto currency go red again. Just be carefull  :(

I think it's a bear market.
When a bear market comes, there is plenty of bad news, and there have been signs of a bear market lately.
Like South Korea's real-name management, China's further regulation, India's intention to ban bitcoin and so on.

There are other factors that cause the red market to be too much of an issue that happened earlier this year and more have forbidden the existence of cryptocurrency, but I think it's just a diversion from various parties to launch its action to buy at the lowest value, well I think in the opposite direction cause more and more people are panicking it will increasingly plunge until bloody.

On the positive side, most of the news is either fud or fake and get's debunked pretty fast.

I called this crash as the ultimate correction manipulated by Bitcoin haters because to think lot of good development happened in digital currencies like South Korea won't ban crypto anymore, Netherland will fully support digital currencies and many more but still the market is crashing therefore i believed this is  a manipulation and conspiracy to take down digital currencies.

It seems to the crypto market is shaking. Red zone and green zone change each other constantly. In the morning you see that your favorite alt is gaining, but it can become a loser close to the evening. Wait, friends, just wait for stabilization.

This is just a normal thing to happen the total marketcap of cryptocurrency is declining from the past 3 weeks from 600B total marketcap it slides down to 400B and thats one factor to be considered on how the bitcoin's will move,thats why you need to be vigillant on how the market works so you can adjust in any situation.

If this is pure manipulation therefore the one who manipulates it is some big whales and I don't think that they'll approve to take bitcoin down because at the first place they'll be the one who'll suffer big losses. I mean they're the only ones that can do manipulation and not the government, but still there's something going on in the market and no one knows where it will take us.

the audit of bitfinex and USDT don't help either, some allegation was made during the lasts months that BTC was artificially pumped by bitifinex using new created USDT.
and now we see it's reversal.

I don't think India is a big cryptocurrency trading country at the moment so the ban shouldn't really affect bitcoin.

When bitcoin price stabilises, and it is only a matter of time until it stabilises, then it may rise only slowly.  However many of the altcoins should rise much faster.  I have noticed that altcoin prices drop faster than BTC on a downtrend, but they rise faster than BTC on an uptrend.

Altcoin red again. I think it happen with BTC market crushed. It is genarel point of market crushed of altcoin. Not more then known about altcoin market crushed.

Here we can see a big news in India where finance minister clearly said that they will ban bitcoin ( in every way to use for atleast 2018 ) .
So thats why the people most of the country India are selling Thier all the assets of the cryptocurrency and converting them into Fiat .
That why the price is getting down much , but here the dump is a opportunity for the non-indian people because the main reason is that not much amount of the bitcoin is running in India , only few people are in the bitcoin ( since not small) that will not give big impact for long time .

This early month of the year is one of the worst corrections of crypto, although 2017 is the best year of Cryptocurrency but everyone hopes that 2018 would be the better one, hence, the correction couldn't cause major effect on world market financial crisis but people are so optimistic and positive after this crisis ends.

It will, eventually, let's not forget that bitcoin was worth around 6k only 3 months ago. Yes this is a huge crash compared to what it was worth on December but if you look back a few months, this price is what a healthy increase would look like, from 6k to 9k.

Actually a few hours ago the price back up from $8000 to $9000 but only in a while the price drops again. bitcoin experienced a downward trend again after the government of India wants regulation for bitcoin "may be a ban" and facebook prohibits bitcoin ads appearing on facebook. and this keeps bitcoin price down. and the decrease in bitcoin prices has an adverse effect on overall cryptocurrency. because it gives bad stigma to altcoin as well. because bitcoin is like a representative of the whole cryptocurrency. hopefully no country or agency again ban bitcoin. so that bitcoin and altcoin market can return to normal and become green again :)

if you're going to refer to the graph of BTc over the year it is  quite evident that it has a correction period and given that all of these coins are affected by the btc so there you go. I think what's happening is really part of the "correction" period as they call it in this community and it will sure get some pump afterwards. Why Alt the red coins again? maybe it's very reasonable in a trade because the graph definitely shows up and down a coin. But the future will continue to rise. I'm sure of that.

For me, I would say that the markets are responding to another fear, uncertainty and doubt concerning some ban news that emerged recently in the media. The markets will definitely come back to green, just like some clarifications and explanations about ban statements are already emerging.

Most of the coins reached its bottom price line yet. I think that now we see some speculation activities on the market. For big holders influencing on price  is a way to make predicted fluctuations and get the profits of it.

People just keep panicking because they want short term gains. The market made huge gains, it couldn't continue like that just with demand. The whole marketcap was 200B only 3 months ago, it's still around 400B now, that's amazing, the growth just wasn't healthy.
