I was looking on a profit calculator site and with the current difficulty i would made .30 cents a days worth does that sound correct with a 330 mhs usb miner? Would I make more if I was in a pool, what's the best pool and the most I can make in a pool in 24 hours?

It's closer to 23c a day, and ONLY if you plug it into a device that anyway has to be on. If it doesn't have to be on already, you're negative out of the gate.

I think the best you can do with 1 of these guys is form a solo miner and hope you get a full block payout over its life.

Odds are significantly against you (1 in 1000 if you leave it on 24/7 over the next difficulty period), but that's probably better than the odds of sticking $35 into a Vegas slot machine and hoping for a $3500 jackpot.  But even then it's only worth it if your electricity is otherwise already accounted for.

I got one and stuck it in a Raspberry Pi.  Takes <10 watts, so I can run it till the difficulty hits like 2 billion before the BTC produced stops paying for power.

Now the question is, will I make my BTC back before that happens....

No.  You got screwed, 330 Mhash is NOTHING in today's 86 million BTC difficulty.

330 means ~0.0020 BTC per day. You'll made .268 cents per day when gox is at $134. You never get back your money, except you using the sun :)

Only if you can get the asicminer farm for free, or close to it. At this point the absolute max you should pay per GHS is $40 / BTC 0.3.

If one ASIC miner is not profitable, adding more doesn't make them any more profitable.

If one ASIC miner loses 10% of your money spent on the device, then 5 ASIC miners also lose ~10% of your money spent on the devices.

So on one device he loses money, but he will make up for it in volume?

When will people get it through their thick frickin' heads.... IT IS TOO LATE to start mining BTC with ANYTHING except an ASIC farm, and even then you may not make any profit!!!!!

You can still make money using USB miners. The one and only question is, if it is possible to get back to ROI and there's only one unknown value in the formula: How long can you mine until your miners is broken. You can use solar or other free power to run your miner(s), but you can't do anything against a broken miner (except to cooling).

Solar is not "free power" if you calculate the system costs in...

Yep, that's right, but you can also use use the panel without any miner and if you decide to sell the panel you still get nearly 70% back... that's my experience.

The games people play to try and pretend the USB miners are worth buying make the games that crashed the economy in 2008 look like child's play...

Now, if you could STEAL a ton of USB miners, and run a power cord to your neighbors' house, so your investment in hardware and electricity was zero, then yes you could make a profit with them.

So there's your plan.  Find out where Butterfly Labs is located, scope the place out, and grab a few boxes of USB miners and RUN!!!!!

It depends on the price of USB miner and cost of total electricity used for mining and the system.

No Profit from this unless you have greater number for a little.

The 330Mh/s may be profitable if you have found a way for ASIC to Scrypt Conversation.

I'm still waiting for .01BTC USBs.  Course, they'll probably only make .001BTC at that point. :/

I think the best chance to make the ROI is by mining another coin at this point.

These guys are going for 30 bucks (plus shipping) on Amazon right now, so ROI may be possible if you mine alt-coins and play the exchange game (buy low/sell high). 

Have you checked your options?  Bitcoin, Terracoin, Zetacoin, PPcoin, Freicoin, Bytecoin, Namecoin, Ixcoin and Devcoin.  TRC seems to be the only one higher than BTC in profitability and it could be 51% from a single mini-rig at the moment.  It's not like you can mine Scrypt with it.

Actually you've got a 50% chance of making a profit with a USB Block Erupter by solo mining from now until you die. If you're lucky and get a block then you'll get 25BTC+ which should give you a clear profit on the purchase cost plus all the electricity that you've used. If you're not you won't hence 50:50 = 50%.

So, by my simple and unflawed maths, you buy two USB block erupters (= 2 x 50%) and you're certain of a profit :-)

I bought 3 of these never expecting to make an ROI but use them to get into the bitcoin community without having to buy bitcoins with USD. In that aspect it has succeeded

Dude, you could have not bought any and just lied to us and said you had some.  It's ok, none of us would care enough to want to come to your house and verify what you had running.

First off what a rude comment second you misunderstood. I bought them to mine and use that bitcoin in the bitcoin community. I used that bitcoin to gamble/invest and what not to enjoy it. I have turned that into a lot more bitcoin than I mined from it directly. I am just trying to say its good for a hobby to earn some bitcoin and then decide what to do with that bitcoin

I can understand that mining is often the only practical way to obtain BTC even if it isn't cost effective.

The problem with USB Block Erupters is that they are now very underpowered compared with what the serious guys are using and so you'll make very small amounts with them and unless you were practically given them, you will never make a ROI - but don't worry the same can probably be said for any mining hardware that is bought now.

It will take you months to accumulate even 0.2 BTC which is only $25 of spending money.

What if I am in a dorm room where I don't have to pay for electricity for the next 9 months......? :)

lol he got ripped off they only do ASICMINER stuff which is like 10x overpriced...even with the crazy price drops they did.  Hopefully he mines alts too?
