Title: [LIST] Suspected users that are abusing merit 2.0
Post by: FFrankie on February 07, 2018, 03:13:43 AM
The old topic did NOT have any good formatting, taking the advice from others posted on the thread, I think we should all follow the universal format of this: originally posted by pugman (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2823221.msg29522928#msg29522928 font=cursive)

Code:
[b]USER PROFILE [/b] : [url=https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=xxxx] Username [/url]
[b]MERIT SUMMARY [/b]: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=xxxx
[b]PROOF[/b]: links to images or posts that proof guilt or intent
[b]MISCELLANEOUS[/b]:Anything else the user wants to state.

Please note, that users posted here are not automatically guilty nor should they be tagged as such, however, users posted here in the OP, I feel as if they abused the merit system by either trading or buying merit.

When posting proof, I respectfully request that you take you upload a screenshot of the users post, or posts that you feel are over-merited because posts can be deleted.

Please note that some of these posted below are copy and pasted from users who posted it in this thread,

This is waaaaay better, good job. I had a hard time following the other thread and just decided to forget it simply because of the formatting.

You are doing commendable job here. I will surely report any unusual activity related to merits if I see it here.

I suggest you lock this thread (while it is still has just a couple posts) and recreate it self-moderated.  Then you can delete all the useless comments like post #2, #3 and this one.  :)  Make the posts only about abusing - and force people to stay on format.

It will make it easier to parse this info later using scripts.

Also to add on, reserve post #2 in the new self moderated thread to add the reports and let the OP only state about the general information about the reports.

Sorry may be not related question I understood the guidelines but how can we earn merit?

You can't self-moderate threads in Meta, though these sorts of threads more likely belong in Reputation than here to be honest. I've said it before but I think people are going to spend more time hunting for merit abusers than actually giving it in the first place. The system was introduced to stop people leaving negative feedback on spammers, but now the same people are just going to get it for merit abusing instead.

By making posts worthy of merit.

It may be an unintended consequence but the merit system has made finding alts cheating campaigns much easier to find as they can't resist the temptation to farm merit as well. I never spent any time looking for them before as they could just easily start again and soon rank up their new accounts. Now it's going to be much harder for them I think it's worth the effort if I can put a few higher ranked spammers out of business.

There is no need to spend any time looking for them.  Theymos has made the system open and public.   Within the next week, BPIP (http://dev.martinlawrence.ca/bpip/) will be identifying possible abusers and make it easier for them to be removed as a source, or punished for sending merit when it is not appropriate.

I mean spending the time going through their posts and linking the ETH addresses they're using to defraud campaigns. I've already found a couple of alt rings just from seeing odd things on the recent merits page. Previously I would have seen putting that effort in as pointless, whereas now I think it can actually reduce spam eventually if we catch enough of them.

Well, if you believe that what you are looking for will benefit the general public, and you can collect the information without using special access, I would live to talk to you about adding your information to BPIP.

You can't self moderate in the meta section

What does that have to do with detecting fraud and making the info public???
