If a cleric states that anyone without a beard will be considered as a gay, then all the men will be forced to have beard. I heard that there are cases in middle eastern countries, where males who can't grow beards are in risk of being man-raped. Scary to think about it. Then when you got around front you saw the beard and became embarrassed with yourself.
What's bad is when you see two long-haired people from the back, and see them sitting right next to each other, and then realize that they BOTH have beards. But Turkey seems to be religious free state. Wikipedia says: "Turkey is a secular state with no official state religion; the Turkish Constitution provides for freedom of religion and conscience".
