These are just a few on the first page.....Can we get a little Moderation in there plzz.  It's disgusting. Am i the only one that sees the problem here?

I'm going to start reporting these BS threads in hopes to clean up that section.

I'm afraid it isn't just that board. I've just spent an hour cruising through the posts on several boards, and I wish I hadn't bothered.

I, for one, also agree that crappy threads like that should be removed. After all, isn't that just the opposite of the quality posts wanted in this forum?

I don't think that board is moderated much if at all. Probably just user reports....

I would like to come on this forum and read more than the Meta section. The rest of the forum is absolute trash as of late.

I like politics. From time to time an interesting thread appears there. Politics is tightly connected with economy and economy with finances. There should be a place to discuss all of on a forum like this one.
If we don't clean up politics maybe we could also stop cleaning other sections like service discussion. Half of it is about cloud mining and if it's a good idea to invest. You can tell them 10 times that it's shit and you'll achieve nothing, so if it was up to me I'd just make one thread about cloud mining and delete every question posted outside of it.

Personally i stopped visiting that sub from months and almost all the time calling it "the jungle". I remember same persons throwing "rocks" on their opponents over and over, same shitty ideas... a psychiatric clinic (or maybe a special institution) should open there.
I always call to merge this crappy sub with off-topic and make some moderation. They have barely the same kind of trashy topics.

That's a good idea, though I'm not sure if that's going to help.  But at worst, it'll leave you feeling psychologically satisfied.

Better idea would be to put that whole section on ignore like I do (along with altcoin, bounties, ANNs).  That way you'll never have to see those idiotic threads and you won't be fuming about it.  I'm actually surprised it's still that bad, since there's really no reward these days for posting in politics & society and off-topic.  Is there?

I never understood why economics didn't have a dedicated moderator, or politics and society. It seems that boards that are unrelated to Bitcoin directly do not have dedicated moderators. In fact if my memory serves me right the altcoin section didn't have a moderator for awhile either.

I think at the very least a moderator should be dedicated to the economics section as there's a lot going on there and is often related to Bitcoin indirectly.

I used to spend probably an hour a day trashing pointless threads in off topic and politics and society and banning those who post exclusively in them but I gave up. It's a neverending task and one that is both tedious and extremely time consuming. Now that we have the merit system these sorts of trash threads will likely dwindle and hopefully go extinct because posting in them will be futile. People only used to do so because they could easily rank up by posting in them but now that's not going to be possible. If you report them I will handle them though.

Totally agreed. People aren't going to spam as much in them now because nobody's going to read it that actually has merit points to give away. Instead, they are just going to be spamming to themselves, essentially.

But still I feel like a lot of the discussions are probably better moved to off topic, since at least 20-30% of the threads are indeed off topic and has nothing to do remotely with politics or society discussions.

I don't know how it can be handled any better than it is right now, apart from taking down the entire politics and society subforum.

Merging the two sub is a good idea imo.
Merit system will reduce the trashy topics maybe but will not end it. Those users need to increase their post count anyway, 50 posts from 100 between these two subs will be less noticeable.
