Title: Need a recommendation on motherboard
Post by: volosator on September 14, 2013, 06:33:55 PM
Hello,

I'm sure there is a lot of topics like this one. Most of them have expired links to the stores. I'd like to know what is current.

I'm building a rig that will run 3 cards: 5870, 6950 reference and 6950 XFX

I have old Antec tall ATX case.
Which motherboard I should pick so I wouldn't have to worry about running all 3 cards and make sure they all fit?
I've done a lot of research, can't seem to pick one.

Another option I have in mind: miniATX motherboard with 1xPCIe-x16 and 2xPCIe-x1 - it will span over 3 slots and I will be able to mount and use another 4 slots in the case for video cards (with powered extenders) - it turns out many motherboards have PCI slot at the end - not an option for me.

Mobo has to be AMD socket AM3 based.

Please advice.

You better  use A88X with A10 for better.

Can you do a profitability calculation?

GPU mining is not profitable for BTC any more.

If your electricity price is about 15c/kWh, it is marginal for LTC etc script mining with 795/70. It is not profitable with 5xxx or 69xx cards.

If you want to use the heat to warm your house, that is another story.

MSI Z77A-GD55 is a good one.

MSI Z77A-GD65 Motherboard can hold many GPU and got lots of space in between if you are only going to use 3 GPUs.
