Post by: giik on January 27, 2010, 09:10:16 AM
To promote the use of Bitcoins in commerce, I've started this topic. Now anyone can post sites where Bitcoins are accepted :D

edit by sirius-m: Traders' list has been moved to the wiki (https://bitcoin.it/wiki/Trade).

I'm starting to offer Bitcoin eCurrency exchange services through my new website http://www.bitcoinfx.cz.cc/

I'm also looking into offering Bitcoin users a web based Forex API to day trade the BTCUSD currency pair in the future. However, I first need to generate enough Bitcoins to act as the broker 8)

We are selling 'indulgences' just like the Roman Catholic Church used to. Just kidding.

Utilizing someone's exchange service would be nice. We are accepting donations to start, and if someone wanted us to link back to their site (links or banners), or promote their exchange we would certainly do that for some BitCoins. We are associated with PNNAC.ORG, a private freedom-based society that may also be interested in the same things. Their contact info is on the site.

Let's start some dialogue and see where it takes us. I'll check out the existing exchanges and if they look reasonable I'll contact them.

This will be what makes bitcoin successful, being able to exchange it for goods & services(not just an exchange service).

Virtual currency (nothing like bitcoin) can become successfull in being accepted for real goods & services, it just takes a little time. Qcoin was popular here in China but is being put down by the Chinese central bank.

See here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tencent_QQ#Q_coin and here
http://online.wsj.com/public/article/SB117519670114653518-FR_svDHxRtxkvNmGwwpouq_hl2g_20080329.html

Well I'm in China, for things like getting documents translated to Chinese and maybe some goods (starting with cheaper items) I can post. I also have access to plenty of poor students who I might be able to convince to contribute their time (for programming, website design, logo design etc.) for bitcoins.

I myself am an English teacher so I haven't much to offer as a remote service.

Is there any free/cheap software or CMS for building an online auction house like ebay ?

I really like the idea of eBay with BTC :)

Thank you for your interest! My server sits on a 100MBit network, but I guess the bandwidth is somewhat limited by TOR, so it's "unlimited". Actually, the 1GB "limit" isn't enforced for this reason either :)

While I will do my best to keep my server on line, I of course don't expect anyone to trust me, and I therefore suggest that other people set up similar services and let people have multiple backups at different places (maybe combined with unionfs-fuse or similar).

I of course can't compete with dropbox etc, but this should be an excellent place to back up sensitive (your encrypted bitcoin wallet?) data limited in size.

I am interested in real goods exchange for BITCOIN

I am looking for Corn, Malt (Hopped or not), Malted wheat, barley and rye

I am going to "mix my labor" with these resources to generate a product that I will accept bitcoins in exchange for...

I know the e-trade aspect is the easy link to increase the usage and therefore value of this exchange product, but without a real product exchange, you will be hard pressed to gain the widespread usage for stable value and common usage...

I emailed support and asked them. (I've been a customer for 4 years. I was also the one who suggested that they accept BCs.)

They told me that they are matching New Liberty Standard's BC/USD rate for the time being.

I sent them a payment today and I received a credit. Looks like it works. ;)

Title: Re: We accept Bitcoins

So their unlimited service is $9.99 a mo (correct?)

That would equate to:

$9.99 * 146.22 BTC/$

1458.54 BTC/mo.

Unless there are people local to me that wish to purchase my consumer goods for BTC the marginal use of BTC does not exceed $ for me yet....

I pay $9.99 for a local phone number. Been a customer for 4 years. It works great.

I also use them to connect my mobile calls. (Mobile calls here are seriously an arm+leg with our local provider.)

Oh, and I also resell some of their stuff to friends to make a few extra bucks.

I have recently revised my Liberty Reserve Exchange Service website - BitcoinFX - http://www.bitcoinfx.cz.cc/ I will soon be funding and maintaining the availability of both BTC and LR at a 100% ratio against the exchange rate.

I have chosen to use a http://www.nic.cz.cc/ domain because it is purposefully obscure ! It is a paid domain for 2 years and is automatically renewable. Its an extremely inexpensive method for hosting a domain with SSL support and Privacy Protect. ( Less than $5 for 2 years ) I have full control over my A Record etc. and the web host is very stable. In the future I will be adding SSL and the LR and Bitcoin API's to make the exchange service 100% automated, as long as their are available funds.

I'm also advertising in Bitcoin in Money Share Forums / e-currency Investment Forums

http://www.moneyshareforum.com/index.php?showtopic=3513 - Bitcoin P2p Cryptocurrency, Bitcoin P2P Cryptocurrency - Free - Open Source Software Project !

Whilst I would not recommend 'investing' in most of the 'sites' on this forum. Searching through the posts and links will give some of you an incite into just how popular e-currencies are with this type of community. This type of activity makes up a massive percentage of e-currency transactions and I consider it very relevant in the successful future of Bitcoin.

Thank you. 8)

For those of you that don't already know; most of these 'investments' are ponzi schemes.

For those of you that don't already know; most of these 'investments' are ponzi schemes.

Indeed they are and you should exercise extreme caution before even considering 'investing' and also view most HYIP's as a game of chance.

I can be considered a trusted admin and my Private Investment Club opportunity is intentionally 'low level' and 'low risk'.

Sabunir had expressed interest in the original BitcoinFX Private Investment Club opportunity, so I have offered a 100% free share, for my usage of the banner designs. I will offer more free shares to Bitcoin Forum members in the future.

Please understand that what I'm effectively doing is 'backing' Bitcoins with my profitable Forex Trading abilities, as well as, creating an interest and demand for Bitcoins with existing e-currency users at the same time. I have 'backed' both projects with $1000 LR to avoid any issues.

This is a much more logical approach than just offering an 'exchange' service where you are effectively just 'giving away' USD or EUR for 'digital tokens' ...

However, I fully understand your concerns.

I would like to point out then that http://vekja.net has always provided a Free web based Bitcoin account even better than the mybitcoin service mentioned above (in addition to the non-free Email and Web service that I announced earlier).

I should have announced this separately before, as there is such great value in a Bitcoin Web App. The value is not just for Grandpa, but is also for anyone who wants to use Bitcoin on a mobile device (or any platform where there is no client yet available).

If you haven't done so already, please come check out the https://Vekja.net Bitcoin web app. Registration is free and does not require an email like the mybitcoin service currently does.

If you have any questions or suggestions, just use the built in messaging system to send a message to admin. I will be glad to help.

For the record: I hereby promise that the Vekna.net Bitcoin account will always remain free (that includes spam free). This was always my intent from the beginning.

I signed up for a vekja free Bitcoin account. Very nice. It is very simple. Almost too simple for my tastes tho. :/ I mean, I'm sure it works as expected but the interface is really lacking features.

MyBitcoin has some nice stuff like payment history, the ability to change your Bitcoin address (which I totally need btw), some basic statistics, and an addressbook (very handy; try typing in a long ugly Bitcoin address from a Blackberry or iPhone -- no thanks).

The need for an email address mystifies me also. I wonder why they require that. Service announcements?

Edit: I see a transaction history page. I must have scrolled right past it. The interface is all on one page??

Edit 2: Looks like MyBitcoin can do payment notes too (I wonder if/how this works to/from Bitcoin and MyBitcoin).

Yes, there is a transaction history.

I was always planning an address book. I just wanted to break up the interface into multiple pages first.

I will also add the ability you request for creating new (and multiple) addresses.

Thank you for the feedback and suggestions madhatter2!

Title: A Tale in the Desert now accepts Bitcoins
Post by: teppy on May 19, 2010, 05:18:33 PM
I run the MMO A Tale in the Desert. We charge $13.95/month for the game, and pay about $0.74 in merchant and gateway fees.

We'll now accept Bitcoins as an alternate payment method. The price per month is 2000 BTC, which according to the exchange is a discount right now.

Instructions:
Visit http://www.atitd.com and download the game client. Native Windows, Linux and OSX versions are available.
Install + Run the client, and create a trial character.
If you like the game, send 2000 BTC to: 17CJvRrNdqSPN3Zs2dWfNY6GoCiMRfNG2T to activate your account.
In the message field, include your character name and shard; I'll then credit you for a month of gameplay.
Right now this is done manually, so the lag could be anywhere from minutes to the next morning.

Title: Re: We accept Bitcoins
Post by: laszlo on May 19, 2010, 06:21:50 PM
Teppy, just so you know, you can't include a message if you send to a bitcoin address, only if you send to an IP address.  The way we usually do it is we issue a new address to each person we ask to send us money so that we know it was that person who sent it.

Title: Re: We accept Bitcoins
Post by: D҉ataWraith on May 19, 2010, 07:52:42 PM
Can I just butt in with a question on why that is? To me it seems that if Bitcoin uses public-key cryptography to transfer ownership of the coins, it should be a trivial matter to include a short message that is only readable by the recipient.

Title: Re: We accept Bitcoins
Post by: teppy on May 19, 2010, 10:33:33 PM
Hmm - is there any text field associated with an address based transaction? It does make accepting Bitcoins a bit more cumbersome. Would including such a text field as part of the protocol compromise anonymity somehow?

Hypothetically, a short text message could be encoded into transactions by charging, say, 2000-2000.999999 Bitcoins and encoding the text portion in the fractional part of the amount.

Or does that solve a problem that doesn't exist?

Is there already a protocol in place to say "make me a new address to send BTC to" ?

Title: Re: We accept Bitcoins
Post by: laszlo on May 20, 2010, 02:41:51 AM
You can create new addresses all you want.. the way most people are doing this is they generate a new address for the user and display it to them.  When payment is received to that address it credits the user.  You can just generate a new address for each transaction, like a transaction ID essentially.  Link2VOIP automated it all and some others have as well, simply by using the built in JSON-RPC functionality.

Satoshi would have to address the other questions about including messages..

Almost but not quite.  Bitcoin uses EC-DSA, which can only do digital signing, not encryption.  RSA can do both, but I didn't use it because it's an order of magnitude bigger and would have been impractical.

I started this little project, no serious thing, I don't even have an automated payment method (lack of knowledge).
The thing is, you pay a fee and receive a digital certificate that is cryptographically signed. The certificate contains data such as e-mail or website (this could be nice to build a web of trust among bitcoin service providers).
If people want to be anonymous the can have registered only their bitcoin address and the certificarte will act more like a souvenir (for whoever wan't to have the first certificate)

I know it's not the brightest idea but please don't be harsh, It's my first website project and I don't want to close it (yet).

Yes. I'm attempting to "level out" my reserves first. I'd like to see 1/2 of those 50,000 coins go out the door before I start buying Bitcoins. I'd likely charge a small fee (to cover postage).

I don't have a website, but I just realized this thread is a single organized place to notify everyone of places where Bitcoins are accepted.  Details are below, and if I add any other service later, I'll edit this post.

Hello all - this is a bit of an experiment for me, being that Bitcoin is so new and all.  To attempt to contribute to the Bitcoin ecosystem, specifically to further the perception & acceptance that Bitcoin is 'money' - I have decided to offer some services for which I'll accept Bitcoin as the method of payment.

Specifically:

    * IT Services - a lot of you may be programmers or other uber-techies.... However  my offer of service is not for programming but for more basic things... troubleshooting some software issue, configuring your network [assuming at least your Internet connection works so I can remotely access], other consultations.. I can't do everything but we can try, and if you're satisfied, you pay me Bitcoin.  I will likely use some remote access software which you would control, in order for me to configure/troubleshoot whatever your problem is
    * Managed trading - I make my living trading on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, I specialize in derivatives trading.  Though I cannot guarantee any results, if anyone wants to diversify some of their money into something that can allow your money to grow, you could try with me if you'd like. If we can come to an agreement and you are satisfied, you could pay me with Bitcoin.

I'll add any other services I could provide as they come to my mind, but for now these are the two fields that a) I have professional experience in b) could probably be valuable to someone out there, and c) I can do remotely, in other words for anyone, anywhere in the world, thanks to the Internet.

If you are interested in either of these services I can provide, just contact me privately and we can discuss matters further.  If we can agree and make an exchange, great.  If not - at least you've made a new Bitcoin contact/buddy!  Smiley

Not sure what you mean so probably not.
for example: ivacy.com offers a free usenet account and grants access to their own filesharing website.
but 15€/month is more than 5, so they better have to offer more ^^

i think i will try your service when my system gets the new harddrive i am waiting for.

Nice. :)

Can you include the payment instructions for Bitcoin on your site? I'm thinking we should set that as a requirement for being added to the Trade page, so the random surfer doesn't get annoyed when he doesn't see the payment option that was promised.

Sure will,  I'm redesigning the web site at the moment - the "new" version will list bitcoin & have a link back to bitcoin.org for those (like me a few hours ago) who have never heard of it.

I decided not to wait for the redesign - the current purchase page at http://www.theoddshot.com.au/purchase.html now includes Bitcoin.

Note that I have made one restriction until I can buy photographic supplies with Bitcoin: "Bitcoin users please note:  Since I have to pay my suppliers in $AU, I reserve the right to restrict quantities of mounted/framed prints, etc sold via Bitcoin."

There is no restriction on electronic delivery services. If you want to buy the rights to use an image on your site, for example, I'll email you a high-res image file for a negotiated bitcoin fee. I'll even mail images on CD or DVD if you like. But mounted & framed prints cost me significant $AU so I can't promise to accept Bitcoin 100% for those orders.

Cheers,

Trevor

Is it possible to get more ports? maybe with a low one-time payment per extra port ?

And what transfer speeds can a single user expect ?

Not now, maybe in the future. Although it's both TCP and UDP so if you have something using UDP (like DC) and something using TCP (most things) it is in effect two.

> And what transfer speeds can a single user expect ?

Pretty good. 25 - 200 Mbit/s is common.

I myself am an English teacher so I haven't much to offer as a remote service.

If you're a decent writer, there's a good market for original articles on all kinds of subjects. People like me who build websites for advertising income can use content for their sites.

Of course, right now the problem is finding website builders who have bitcoins to spend. I guess I'm generating some by running the program, and then I could pay for some articles.

I would be willing to install Wordpress blogs and even host them for bitcoins, if I had any clue how much to charge.

Yeah I am going to add a payment options page to make it a little more clear. Currently the instructions on Bitcoin payments are listed on each individual product with the other types of payment information. I am going to try and come up with a way to make a shopping cart or Order Form for Bitcoin users, and I also want to try and offer discounts to those who pay in Bitcoins instead of US dollars.

I plan to offer more types of seeds, of all kinds, but particularly interested in medicinal and ethnobotanical plants, but will also offer some more common plants like echinacea, cacti, and perhaps carnivorous plants. I also am planning to start offering dried extracts and tinctures soon. Will be adding some new products in the next few days.

I'm really excited about Bitcoin and I really hope it becomes more widely accepted. I've been trying to spread the word and get more people to start using Bitcoin.

Speaking of seeds, in the future when generating blocks becomes less common for general computer user and also as many devices/bitcoin environments will differ in that some will have all data for bitcoin history and many environments will not (e.g. mobile devices).  This will resemble that of seeds/leechers in current p2p technologies.

Buy denominations of Amazon.co.uk Gift Vouchers...
The fine print on the website says "please do not attempt to place an order as it will not be fulfilled".

Forgetting to remove that message there once open for business was slightly silly :D. I originally put that there whilst I was testing things were working.

@davidonpda - To the best of my knowledge UK issued Amazon vouchers won't work on Amazon.com - only Amazon.co.uk. If there's a demand for it I'll look at stocking them - what kind of denominations would people find useful?

I'd like to do that, but I think there are some serious legal issues doing that since I'm 100% USA based.  My own private currency, AspenBux, is just given away in free tournaments, or you can do those paid survey things to get them.  But you can redeem AspenBux for USD also, so it's a fine line I walk.

That's why I stated that you can use it for the virutal goods, and didn't mention playing for it.  Now after I move the op out of USA, it's a different story.  I might pay out in BitCoins later if I get some in the account, but that would require sales, because I'm not going to mine them.  20 hrs of mining, 0.00 coins, and my Host company for the VPS was about to shoot me.  They even killed the container and left it off for an hour as a hint.  I was nice about it too, just set it to 1/4 Cpus.  I normally run 5% cpu at prime time high stakes tournaments, so it was a big change and they noticed...

Illegal = Consideration/Chance/Reward of Value.   Legal is replace one of those with something else.  I keep consideration to Free (none), and Chance to Skill.

80 BTC/month + 0.50 BTC/minute anywhere in Canada/Continental USA - includes a Canadian DID (phone number) in your choice of major cities.

Details are here:

Title: Tahoe-LAFS—we accept Bitcoins as donation.
Post by: zooko on August 21, 2010, 02:07:36 PM
I'm part of an open source project developing a secure, decentralized storage system. We just started accepting BitCoin donations along with PayPal and Flattr donations. I hope to add acceptance e-gold donations as well.

http://tahoe-lafs.org

The donations are mostly used to defray the costs of running servers and to send special "thank you gifts" when people contribute to our project, such as when they find a security hole:

http://tahoe-lafs.org/hacktahoelafs

We actually have a long-term plan to integrate digital cash payments directly into the storage protocol. :-) Tahoe-LAFS is a grandson of a p2p file-sharing application named "Mojo Nation". (BitTorrent is another grandson of Mojo Nation, so Tahoe-LAFS and BitTorrent are first cousins.) Mojo Nation had blinded Chaumian ecash baked into the protocols. It was a great idea! :-) But it tried to do too many different things and it never worked right. :-( Nowadays Tahoe-LAFS tried to do fewer things: just the secure distributed storage part. It turns out even just that part takes a lot of careful engineering to make it work. But it does work, so now we have one solid component that we can build on. Hopefully in the future we can marry it to another solid component that does digital payments. :-)

Regards,

Zooko Wilcox-O'Hearn
community organizer, Tahoe-LAFS project

Bitcoins when viewed as a commodity may be utilised for barter exchange at any of the following sites (opening up avenues to a whole new electronic barter economy with Bitcoin as intermediary for real tangible goods or services - thus Bitcoin as a commodity exchange medium could be fulfilling a gap in the inefficiency of traditional bartering - where you have to find someone that wants what you have and have what you want - Now Bitcoin as an exchanged commodity could be the intermediary in barter transactions!!)

Here is some of the top Barter sites where Bitcoin as an electronic coin commodity may be exchanged for just about anything, and just about anything may be exchanged for Bitcoins!! :

www.community-exchange.org
www.barterthing.com
www.favorpals.com
www.swaptreasures.com
www.ubarterexchange.com

So maybe we should launch Bitcoin into the Barter economy as well?

Also note that numerous jurisdictions (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legal_tender) will be excluded from the benefits of Bitcoin should it be called a currency (and thus be a foreign currency as opposed to the national currency, and thus not legal tender currency for payment purposes).  If Bitcoin is officially viewed as a commodity - it may be bartered with, in these (and all other) jurisditions and thus will have universal use.  The fact of calling Bitcoin a currency and not a commodity, may have a hindrance on international use (some jurisdictions may forbid or restrict PAYMENT, but not BARTER, made other than by legal tender) when Bitcoin establishes itself in the mainstream market.  For an interesting parallel consider the Islamic gold Shariah coin (with intrinsic metal commodity value, see http://www.islamicmint.com/news_articles/articles/statement_castineria.html paragraph 7.) in comparison to Bitcoin (with its intrinsic mathematical solution's value).

More currency, barter, legal tender info (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Currency) describes how a Central Bank may have sole control over a nation's CURRENCY (as opposed to foreign currency that are sometimes specifically lawfully excluded as payment substitute for the national currency).  Central Banks generally does not have sole control over COMMODITIES.

Exchange control also has legal implications when dealing in foreign currency (currency other than the national currency) in some jurisdictions (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_exchange_controls).

When owning the keys to unlock a mathematical problem, it should constitute a store of value in the form of COMMODITY ownership of instant access to a mathematical sollution to a complicated problem.

I want to try to sell personalized gifts for bitcoins. I have a http://store.gifti.us store which accept currently credit cards and paypal only.

if you want to use bitcoins - please contact me directly at pavel@yepcorp.com. I will use mtgox.com rate to calculate price in BTC. To get idea of shipping expenses - add something into cart and proceed to checkout - it will show you shipping options and their price.

If it will go off and I will be able to manage orders - I will add permanent payment option to checkout page as well as "Bitcoins accepted here" logos.

Yes! We are soon due for some unnecessary grief because of our shortsightedness in describing Bitcoin with a garbage-pail load of terms such as currency, coins, money, cash, dollars, etc.

I've been ineffective in my earlier posts, maybe you can do better in getting our ducks in line before we take them out in public.

At the Bitcoin Store (https://bitcoinstore.yyz.us/), we consider bitcoins a digital store of value, closest to a commodity.  bitcoin's properties more resemble a commodity IMO, and legally speaking it is less questionable to call it a commodity.

In fact, I propose the official description be changed to "a digital P2P cryptocommodity" rather than "cryptocurrency".

Can you add the temporary payment instructions to the site? That's been the standard requirement for getting your site added. Qugel.com is an exception as they're a notably big shop but seemingly have their technical limitations with eBay shops.

I have static page saying we accept bitcoins - http://store.gifti.us/buy-with-bitcoins . Right now I can't add automatic payment option, since it will envolve module development for Magento, which is not that easy for me, nor I am sure it will really benefit me. So if this kind of "payment instructions" will suffice it would be great. If it will take off, I will definitely devote some time into development production payment module for Magento and will open source it.

I already do that. Those videos are on a revshare. I currently have them ranked cheapest -> most expensive. Perhaps I should sort the listings differently to bring the better videos to the top.

Why wouldn't it? I don't suspect the admins have a puritanical agenda.

Unless the trade page is an endorsement, which I do think it is. Maybe it should explicitly say no endorsement, only verification of bitcoin usage.

I think they should just add a category called "Adult" with a notice that it isn't appropriate for minors. There are two confirmed adult sites that accept Bitcoin now. I think that warrants a category on the trade page. So far, my requests to have them added have largely been ignored. I'm not too bothered by it, as I'll likely pick up search engine traffic anyway. :)

Edit: Or for the puritan; the Bitcoin trade page could link to a Google search or something.

It is clearly not the same. There are many ways of doing a business directory and the market will decide the winner.

I have a different idea and plan for a business directory which doesn't mean I would be infringing anyone else.

It's great that you have bitcoin on there, but it doesn't seem right. There is no bitcoin exchange rate anywhere that I can see. If I start to trade 100BTC for Paypal it tells me I get $93.10. Obviously that isn't right, it thinks I want to spend $100 worth of bitcoin, but nowhere is it shown how much that is.

The rates of exchange are shown.

Expect some layout changes as I work out the presentation.

Thanks for adding a new bitcoin exchange site . :)

It looks great so far!

At the bottom of http://www.nanaimo-gold.com/rates.php one sees "Current BTC exchange rate is 0.081155 USD"

And a link to "bitcoin data roundup", http://www.nanaimo-gold.com/get_bc_rate.php

Ah, sorry. I must be blind. So it is that price, plus the 6.9% fee? Still pretty good.

hey guys! I just finished my bitcoin website:
http://bitswap.cz.cc/

It's sort of like a classifieds/craigslist thing. You post notices about things you want to buy or sell for bitcoins, indexed using tags (and perhaps later, by location). Please check it out.

At the moment it's free, but I intend to start changing a small rate (bitcoins, of course) for notices in the future, if it takes off.

I'm hoping this will help people trading bitcoins to get together and grow the economy.

Any feedback is welcome:

COFFEE!!

A very special coffee picked in the rain forest of Western Mexico, roasted in Arizona and shipped out by mail.

The big difference with this coffee is in the processing. The berries never get wet unlike commercial scale operations that float the beans and de-pulp with pressure water. These cherries are dried first to preserve the flavorful oils and caffeine, then the pulp is then mechanically threshed off.

The difference is incredible! I thought I was a coffee snob but until I tried dry processed beans, I did not know coffee from Shinola!

2 lbs. for 400 BTC to your door, no extra fees.

You can have light, medium or dark roast. I urge you to not pass over the light. Most people have never tasted anything like it. It's naturally sweet and fruity. You are getting 2 bags, so try 2 different roasts if you like. A favourite of mine is light and dark blended half and half.

Dry processing costs more due to the increased labour. For me, the higher than average price is justified by the far superior product.

The producer, a friend of mine, wants you to know that he pays his workers better than average wages and he never pollutes the streams or cuts the forest.

There is no website. If you want this coffee, use this contact form. I'll generate a BTC address for you to spend to and you can tell me your mailing address.

I guarantee your satisfaction in good time or I'll personally refund your BTC. This is the good stuff - that crisp clear mental boost that programmers crave!

I don't think Amazon will do it, I have done it before myself. It won't work in the outlets there though. :( I believe sending by mail is about US$5, so I'd have to convert it to BTC whenver I send.

The Bitcoin Store (http://bitcoinstore.yyz.us/ (http://bitcoinstore.yyz.us/)) accepts multiple currencies in payment, and gives out bitcoins.

The Bitcoin Store has closed.  It was a fun experiment, but only had four or five customers in its lifetime.

Bitcoin Market v2 and mtgox, once mtgox's withdrawal situation is sorted, should be suitable as instant exchange sites.  One only hopes they add market orders (http://www.sec.gov/answers/mktord.htm) in addition to the current limit orders (http://www.sec.gov/answers/limit.htm) that both support.  (Yes, you can make a limit order effectively a market order, but that's the point of a market order: you shouldn't have to)

While I'm not actually trading BTC, I am buying and selling Mt. Gox USD for cash in the mail which supports bitcoin trading.  ;D

I will charge a low fee of 2% to buy Mt. Gox USD, and 2% plus $1 for postage to sell.

However, to get things started, I'm waving the 2% fee for the first $1000 in trades. I've already sold $100 of Mt. Gox USD. Buy some for no fee while you can!

For more information, send me a pm.

Hi,

We're accepting BitCoin too!

https://www.kalyhost.com/?Currency=BTC

Services provided includes:

- Domain names (many extensions available)
- Web hosting (Europe or US, depending on your location)
- VPS (Europe)

Note that this is not a service specialized in "anonymous hosting", instead we are a regular provided adding support for BTC. Process is simple: choose your stuff, add to cart, register, and get on payment page. Once there you get a bitcoin address to send your payment to. You can send it in one go, or in small parts (ie. if you're paying for something with a friend).
Once the payment is confirmed, the order will be processed automatically, and you'll receive a confirmation email a bit later.

In Europe for now we only host from Germany, as we had a lot of troubles with network in another country (we tried France but stopped a few months later, moving everything to german servers). Latency is <10ms to most parts of Europe.

I added a bitcoin logo, as well as the instruction to contact me by email if one wishes to pay with bitcoin, to avrthing.com.  I also added a gpg public key and the address of the keyserver I use.  I am still working on figuring out a way to do a payment module.  I think I may have to use python scripts and have a bitcoind running on my hosts server, or modify the check accepting module to simply instruct one to send payment to a single address.  I don't do much business now so that should work, but if it ever caught on it could become difficult to tell who sent each payment. How do other people deal with this?  Is there a plugin available for Prestashop?

normally, you'd generate a separate address for each transaction. that's how you match orders with payments. otherwise there's no way to tell, if you happen to have two orders for the same amount, who sent the payment.

I'm prepared to take a financial hit (at least in the short term) to encourage people to adopt the technology.

What do you mean by sender code on the website?  If you are using the sending address as your transaction reference, then anyone who sends you money via a pooled client such as www.mybitcoin.com isn't likely to match up.

Cool.

Exchange rate is not so good, 20 cents for a coin is considerably less than you can get in a lot of places. As much as I like to transact in bitcoins, if I needed to buy anything substantial from you I would convert to USD first, even with the PP surcharge.

Hey all,

Using some of my many business connections; I got two new stores online. I am running these sites for a good friend of mine who is not very familiar with Bitcoin. Damn that old dollar mentality! :P

After explaining the Bitcoin concept to him for many hours over coffee, he agreed that backing this new currency with more goods is a really good thing. For Bitcoin to be useful we need to back it with more goods and services, after all. :)

Under a simple agreement with him; I will be managing these two new shops, and he will be handling the shipping.

Bitcoin Gadgets (http://www.bitcoingadgets.com/) It's a pre-release. Still has the default ugly zen cart interface. This is being changed as we speak. The holiday season has delayed things with the graphics people a bit.

Bitcoin Sex Toy Store (http://www.bitcoinsextoys.com/) Adults only!!! 200 products! Fully themed, and it looks nice in my opinion. Offers great privacy to the buyer. No pesky charges on the credit card statement. (Thanks, Bitcoin!) Items are discretely shipped.

Cheers!

Title: bitcoin via cash in the mail : a euro french service
Post by: grondilu on December 31, 2010, 01:41:24 PM
Hi,

I've set up an experimental bitcoin via euro cash in the mail.  Due to lack of imagination, I've called it "eurobitcoin".

http://grondilu.freeshell.org/eurobitcoin.cgi

I extract rates from mtgox and bitcoin4cash, and I offer the average ask.

It's a CGI script that allows to make reservations so there's normally no need for human intervention, apart from sending the enveloppe and receiving it.

It's written if french, since after all euro is not the national british currency, so why not writting in my mother tongue, hum ?

I'd welcome german and other central european languages translations.  If any one wants to help.

I'll attach the source code here.

Post by: grondilu on January 02, 2011, 02:15:29 AM
It misses som accents (i have no idea how to write some characters on azerty keyboard) but i could fix that quickly from my home pc and add some english translation of your form as well ;)
And to make it complete, i would need a list of applicable statuses for the proper translation of records for the history table and preferably a string list for translations management. we have 23 lingvistic versions in the EU so it might be essential in order to support more languages (greek, bulgarian, czech, danish ...)

Well, I haven't quite decided what status I will put in the history table.  Probably this :

* apport :  this a line I add when I want to bring some fresh bitcoins in the system.
* attente réception lettre :   waiting for letter receipt
* paiement effectué :  payment done.  This will also be an hyperlink to bitcoinexplorer.com page for the bitcoin transaction.
* périmé :  outdated.  I will write this when (hopfully never) I will not have received anything after, say, 15 days.
* annulé : cancelled.  I may write this if I receive an email or something telling me the buyer changed his mind.

BTW, I updated the source code ahead.  You can use it directly to make your translations.

This site is free to mirror/fork !  Just change the name "Grondilu" to your own name.

If you mirror it, I'd appreciate you had a link to my own site.

I've opened my Bitcoin Bonus (https://bitcoinbonus.com/referral/2f626978) web presence for crediting you for your purchases on the Internet with Bitcoins.
We have about 15 different companies that you can buy items from and get bitcoins back for your purchases, with more on the way.

https://bitcoinbonus.com (https://bitcoinbonus.com/referral/2f626978)

I am offering 10 bitcents for everyone who joins, and 10 bitcents to everyone who refers a friend who joins.  More details on the site.

While I do hope to make some money with this site, I'm also hopeful that this site will be a gateway for others to learn and become interested in all of the possibilities of bitcoins.  Lets hope that we get more people to download the client or join MyBitcoin because they want to get credit for their purchases.

Please add this to the page at bitcoin.org/trade. Perhaps now that there are a few of us offering Affiliate Links for credit we warrant a new section on the page.

there are so many websites now that I wonder if we should not create a .btc primary domain.  A .com website would be similar to a .com (business related), but the official money would be bitcoin.

Can someone update the description for Bitcoin Morpheus to include check and money order as buying options.

I would also appreciate adding something about the site also selling reloadable debit cards for bitcoin.

I just cleaned up the site a little and added links to all my services on the front page. Check it out: http://bitcoinmorpheus.tumblr.com/

Thank you to who ever keeps the trade page updated. It's an invaluable service to the community.

You can use MTGox or MyBitCoin or something like that and use their merchant tools. With MyBitCoin.com you can set up a forwarding address so any payments your 'home' BitCoin account. Or you can use MTGox and in which case you can immediately set up and exchange for USD or EUR. Depends what you are after.

For the purpose of merchant tools, I believe MyBitCoin serves the purpose better, in my humble opinion.

Meh, I dunno. They say I can't use their services (so my email account?) to support capitalism and they don't define it. I'm sure they probably mean I can't advocate for slave labor and pollution, but I call capital ownership capitalism since that's what it is. And without capital ownership we're all going to die with gaping infected wounds in the street.

This is the beginning of the end. Fractional Reserve Banking...

If an organization carries out fractional reserve banking, and denominates their accounts in bitcoin, that carries some risk for customers of that organization.

But that doesn't in any way weaken bitcoin. It just means that the organizations accounts (or "banknotes") are not as good as real bitcoin.

Population control was the one that shocked me.  Apparently people aren't supposed to use Rise Up to spread information on contraception?

No.

The background here is that there are some environmental groups who espouse the line that the only way to fix the environment is through population control. Typically this is referring to the global south, and is highly problematic for privileged global north environmentalists to suggest that this is the way to fix the environment.  basically, riseup is not interested in supporting environmentalists in the global north who are obsessed with population control, especially when there are no environmental group in the global south thinks that population, in and of itself, is a problem. when white environmentalists talk about population they are usually talking about people of color in poor agrarian countries. The narrative is that these people are too stupid to know better than to not have kids.

Does that mean that discussion of contraception, family planning, abortion, or the ecological costs of human overpopulation is not allowed using a riseup account? No.  In fact, when we look at resource usage, pollution produced and other impacts on the environment; the countries of the global north have a hugely disproportionate negative impact on the global environment. In fact, in an agrarian setting where the family is always the primary economic unit, it makes perfect sense to have very large families, as people did in this country when more people worked in agriculture.

There is a very sick history of tons of money being funneled into poor countries for forced sterilization, birth control experiments in exchange for "health care", and the granting of food aid on the condition of a vasectomy or tubal ligation. All this has been done in the name of saving the environment. This traditional approach is so obviously racist that the environmentalists have changed their tactic: now they talk about 'footprint' and consumption. they say we need to restrict immigration to the US because those immigrants will start consuming like Americans, and that is not sustainable. Then again, this new tactic is not really any less obviously racist, yet somehow this is an unbelievably common argument.

So, contraception, abortion, family planning, reproductive choices? All great, Riseup is for that. yes, there is an ecological cost of overpopulation (although there is a political science argument about carrying capacity and overpopulation being a myth), but when it is used by northern environmentalists to subjugate people from the south, we find that a little despicable.

Looks cool. It's neat that you essentially found a way to make people wait 45 days for PayPal bought coins without it being to annoying since the buyer feels like they already bought and spent the coins immediately after tipping. And the person who got the tip can't complain too much since it was money for "nothing".

I have enough connections that I can get coins immediately with my PP, but I'm going to buy some from you if the 30 cents is a valid offer. Does that stay updated? How many can/will you sell at that rate?

Sorry, the 0,30 cent offer is out.. We sold out very quickly. We are trying to get new coins right now. So I'm actually looking for Bitcoins at the moment.
We'll have to sell at a significantly higher rate, as a good proportion of the buyers, mainly bought them to speculate. At least thats what I suspect. ::)
We want to enable "the technicaly not savy", to easily aquire Bitcoins. Therfore a higher rate will be necessary to keep out the speculators; probably 0,50 cent looking at the current mt gox rates..

Well, yeah, selling things below market rate is going to attract a lot of people. However, I don't think it's only 'speculators' who prefer to pay less than to pay more.

Good question. I just see "against government" and assume kinship, lol. It would be pretty silly to be nationalistic in the sense that I understand it and be against the government. They drew the lines that separate us!

In what context?
As for definition, you would probably like to go to Wikipedia or smth like that.

In two words. Nationalism means defending interests of your only nation. Radical means that other "ethical" ways of providing normal life to you as part of nation is useless. In particular, the only way to stop henocide of Russian people in Russia - is to destroy this crap country in fire of Revolutoin :))

From my point of view, it would be pretty silly to make conclusions on subjects you don`t understand.

Gentlemen, I will answer your questions if you want, but I think it is not a right thread (and maybe forum ;)) to make discussion on such things.

As the Russian Nationalist gentleman explained nationalism means supporting your own nation.  It is important to keep in mind that nation, as used by nationalists, is different than state.  A nation is an ethnic grouping such as Slav, Anglo-Saxon, or Jew.  I'll personally only support nationalists when they are opposing someone worse, which is rare.  Isolationist nationalists are infinitely preferable to me, however, than expansionist nationalists, and there are occasions where nationalists are preferable to non-nationalist opponents (the only example I can think of is China, when the nationalists were preferable to the Maoists) I won't be supporting these particular nationalists with my bitcoins, and I urge the rest of you to avoid doing so as well.  Nationalist does, indeed, mean the same thing here as it does when used as a part of the term "National Socialist"

JAZZ LESSONS for BITCOIN!!!    8)

For those of you who don't know, I'm a jazz saxophone player...here's a couple links to hear my playing:
  • my podcast with 20gigs of live mp3 recordings - podcast.ericfontainejazz.com (http://podcast.ericfontainejazz.com)
  • my YouTube channel that I updated regularly - youtube.com/ericfontainejazz (http://youtube.com/ericfontainejazz)

Anyway, I have started accepting bitcoin to review anyone's jazz playing.  Basically if you want some advice on improving your jazz soloing (and music in general or anything else for that matter :D), just upload a video to youtube, send approximately 1 bitcoin per minute of video (but suggested minimum is the equivalent of 1USD) to mybitcoin.com address ericfontainejazz (https://www.mybitcoin.com/sci/paypage.php?t=VqNYwz-j_oOVGq-URxmygebf62-hvCztuaDhVYeZZfsRpdxZu8nMLKjVDhHmp9hwyTFTaxtuR_mD4xsSu7ik5sXV5psvudy7nR34LCwwUczHcrNXaG0CU12ubO5ET25ishE748Ah0DWfqkZAjiA6lBf1DlxcdeyHVTm6_xthoDzu21sbadLyFX5nuMs8CuxR2A%2C%2C) with a link to your youtube video, and then ericfontainejazz will write comments on your youtube video (or send a private message if requested) on how to improve your playing.  I might even send a video response if you send me extra bitcoins :) (send a youtube message to ericfontainejazz first).

JJGames (http://www.jjgames.com) accepts Bitcoin payment for used video games and systems.  The payment process is automated.  The site provides more detailed payment instructions (http://www.jjgames.com/page/bitcoin).

Can the Trade page maintainer update the link for JJGames to point to http://www.jjgames.com/page/bitcoin instead of the JJGames home page?  The instructions page might be a more helpful landing page for Bitcoiners.

Thanks.

Hello everybody,

I develop some free software for my needs. And I hope that there are useful for others.
Some examples:

Project 1 : IP-Link
http://ip-link.wikidot.com/
The goal of IP-Link is to see the relationships between different IP from network traffic capture (pcap file, honeypot), thus quickly for a given address with the IP that communicates the most.
IP-Link mainly uses CIRCOS (http://mkweb.bcgsc.ca/circos/) and graphviz.
License: Python

Project 2: pyAggr3g470r
http://bitbucket.org/cedricbonhomme/pyaggr3g470r/
pyAggr3g470r is a news aggregator with e-mail notification and a web interface. Articles are stored in a SQLite base (generation of QR codes with URLs of articles, export articles (HTML, EPUB, raw text and for DokuWiki), articles are stored in a SQLite database).
License: GPLv3

Project 3: Stéganô
http://bitbucket.org/cedricbonhomme/stegano/
Stéganô is a basic (for the moment ;-) Python Steganography module.
License: GPLv3

You can find other projects here: https://bitbucket.org/cedricbonhomme/ or here: http://wiki.cedricbonhomme.org/doku.php/projects

Obviously, these projects only accept bitcoins ;-)
My bitcoin address for my projects: 1GVmhR9fbBeEh7rP1qNq76jWArDdDQ3otZ
You can specify the name of the project when sending a bitcoin if you wish.

Thank you,
Cédric

Playing?

I've witnessed tabletop fusion first hand.  I know it works.  I also know that the trick is getting over parity energy out, other than just added heat.  Heat alone is useful, if someone where trying to heat a home beyond the arctic circle, but the tabletops emit beta, gamma and some nutronic radiation; so they are not something you just set up in one corner of the basement and let run.  And H2 isn't easy to come by, either.

It works just like any other wiki. Since that page will have high visibility I think many of us may dedicate some spare time to keep it clean of spam. Also maybe we could try to keep the listings in alphabetical order to deter edit wars between businesses trying to get on top of the list.

Actually, I only started accepting Bitcoin donations one day before you made that post... didn't think of adding it to the wiki and/or the forum, and was quite surprised to find out someone else had already done it that quick :P

Just started using Bitcoin myself, so not very familiar with the community and all yet. Had some friends (and fellow Anons) pushing me to accept Bitcoin donations... so after a while I decided to just add it :)

Minethings.com (http://www.minethings.com) is a browser-based MMO that I've been running for a couple years.  A friend told me about bitcoins a couple weeks ago and now (after a weekend of coding) they are accepted at Minethings.com.  The game is free to try out and in-game purchases are optional.

A bit about the game:

A real-time mining game based in a post-apocalyptic Earth where there are no rules and everyone's loot is up for grabs. Inter-city trading is all PvP so it requires arming up your vehicles and being prepared for the worst. But the rewards are worth it!

Grow your first humble mining operation into an empire with equipment, mining robots, battery upgrades, and gadgets. Expand your operations to the high seas, build factories, earn interest on your wealth, dominate markets and climb the ranks to become the one with the most things.

Start mining today! (http://www.minethings.com)

I play this game!

It's fun even without buying credits, but now I might need to buy some for bitcoin.

I am currently working on setting up a Bitcoin payment gateway - a bit like PayPal works, with callbacks after a payment is completed - that should allow you to accept Bitcoin without really having to set up anything. There will be no transfer fees, and it should be done in a few days.
I believe someone else is also working on a payment gateway for Bitcoin, so you could just pick which you want to use. As far as I know, that gateway will also be available soon.

You could also set up your own system, but it would require you to run bitcoind on your server and use the API, as far as I know. I'm not sure if there are any guides on it (maybe someone else here will know).

Awesome news!

I like the way the you work the bitcoin mining into your payment page.
I could spend alot of time in minethings.com if I'm not careful.

Just some ideas:
Maybe you could go even further and have bitcoin be one of the things you can mine in world?
Could you add a way to exchange credits back for bitcoins somehow?
Could you trade items for bitcoins and visa versa  (between players) in game?

I think any of those would make your game uniquely fun and addictive.

Great game.

Edit: I see now that your Terms and Conditions specifically prohibit trading any in game assets for external currency, so I see most of those are things you've considered and decided not to do. Still a very fun game. I'm up to 10 melds and thoroughly addicted. I really like that I can just visit it once a day. I'm too busy right now for much more than that.

Wow!  This is a fun game so far...  I think its addicting...  I just bought two mines with bitcoin, to help speed up...  I guess this is one of those games where you login once per day to check on things...sortof fun.  Bitcoin payment was very smooth...good job integrating the code!

I like that idea!!!  It would help expose new people to bitcoin, and it would be fun to occasionally mine some virtual good that is actually a real currency!

our website ... wants to accept bitcoins.
Is there any guide how to set this up?

try the mybitcoin.com (simple) merchant tools for a quick start
nothing fancy but can generate yourself the buttons and links to payments
and doesn't require running own bitcoin deamon.
or get your hands dirty with coding yourself

I was able to integrate bitcoin into my automation. Look at the bitcoind client. I'm sure you will be able to make it work.

Or, you can use the MyBitcoin ledger system. It has a real sweet sci/api

I guess I should officially announce http://www.bitcoin2cash.com (http://www.bitcoin2cash.com) here as well.

I'm also looking for third party payment processors that want to take different forms of payments from customers and send me cash by mail and vice versa. Contact me by email if interested.

I'd guess now that it's moved to the wiki, the wiki is regarded as sufficiently sticky and this thread can be left as just a pointer to the wiki.
