Title: Thanks Button
Post by: lucario21 on February 24, 2018, 10:48:23 AM
Is there a possibility to add THANKS BUTTON ?

Instead of replying with Thank you, all we need to do is to click that button and we can maximize the essence of our post/activity.

In merit system only member upto higher rank are able to give it but in thanks system all ranks are allowed to give it and the counter for this doesn't matter for our ranking unlike merit.

-1. I think merit is mostly already used this way -- as an expression of gratitude when solving a technical issue for example.

Adding another button for essentially the same function but with no real purpose would just clutter up the forum and confuse people.

Definitely agree on this one. There is no need of adding that one and also it will spoil the mood because people will just troll everywhere and keep pressing the thanks button instead of clicking the reply button and taking efforts to type the expression of gratitude. With the thanks button you won't even do that and might get lazy enough to express yourself.

This is forum, it has to be engaging one and you should try to express yourself with two three lines or few words at least.

This is not a Facebook for God sake. :-D

I think this would be a nice idea. Thanks isn't the same as merit or activity, it's more of a personal message to the poster.

It isn't worth putting much effort into adding it to the forum, but if it is easy, then I think it would be a useful addition.

I strongly disagree with you on this, merit has nothing to do with "thanks".
Merit are not designed to say thanks or anything like that, they are to distinguish the quality posters and to appreciate good posts by rewarding them because merit can effect the reputation of members on forum.

I'm with Jet Cash, this is a good idea for me since giving thanks will also reduce people who shit post like " Thankyou for.." and also giving genuine thanks will also make people happy and appreciated and they will continue to strive hard.

The OP stated that "thanks" button will not be same as merit since it will not be a rank requirement i think this would be just work as Token of Appreciation.

+1 to this suggestion if this is not that hard to implement to the forum.

This is the current stats of  our forum right now.
30million posts? The implementation of thanks system will also lessen the data consumption into the server that might be cause of slowing down due to surging of new post.
I've seen this features on different forum that I've joined too and it works perfectly. Thanks system also represents on how a member being consistently helping and guiding our fellow members even without any rewards in return.

You are pretty delusional if you think a "Thanks" button will stop those users from posting "Thank you". They'll just continue to do so anyway because they need the activity/posts for their signature campaign.

I don't see how one thing can't correlate with the other. A post can both be the answer to a question and of high quality. If a post like that is rewarded i'd say it is both as a "thank you" for answering the question, and doing so in a constructive matter. Check out https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=4.0

I don't think you can compare any forum to bitcointalk. The incentive for most user to be here is ( unfortunately ), to make money through signature campaigns. Not to share knowledge or have a good time. Hence all the spam.

There are forums who have a THANK button. Im not saying Im agree with the idea, just correcting you that LIKE is not all about Facebook thing lol.

To OP, I think having a THANK button will increase forum data consumption as far as my own forum knowledge is concerned. There are numbers of forums that I visited in the past who removed that feature to somehow minimize their loading time. I just don't know if that is another story when placed on a SMF forum.

Seems like you still don't understand on how the merit system works. Even newbies can give merits to other members as long as they receive some to their posts, from other sources. This will give them sMerits that they can use to merit others.

Still, the "Thanks Button" is a pretty idea. It is nice to know that you are being appreciated every now and then.

Oh thanks for clarification, now I have 1 sMerit.

I just want to add another benefits of having Thanks button.
It much easier to backread if they had less post on a given topic.

It is, but there's definitely not enough merit for my needs.  I was thinking about applying to be a merit source, but I don't know if I'd want to feel obligated to patrol for good posts.  There are ones I've run across since the whole system started that I'd like to have given merit to, but I ran out.

Not a huge deal, but a "thanks" button could be used an infinite number of times, and it's not a bad suggestion at all--but I wouldn't sacrifice the merit system for it, because I do think there needs to be a quality-of-posts factor involved in the ranking up process, and merits provide that.

We have merit button to say thank you. What you offer is "poor man's merit button" or "greedy man's merit button". Or maybe exchange 10 thank you's to 1 merit. Yes, I'm a very spoiled young man, only care about value. And I think my "thank you" value doesn't mean much. Shame on me!  :'(

I really appreciate the idea of OP, but if you really want to say thank you, how about if you just copy the link of the thread and  send a pm to the person you want to say thank you? However, I like your suggestion but it depends on admin theymos if he will look into this as if it can share a valuable purpose to this forum.
