Title: why the hell people invest in coins with a huge supply.
Post by: neymarjunior50 on February 26, 2018, 05:42:49 PM
So here I am looking at Coin Market Cap and the supply of coins. I'm just curious why the hell people invest in coins with a huge supply. Coins like Ripple, Tron, Cardano, Stellar Lumens, IOTA, and Tether, just to name a few. All of which have a supply into the BILLIONS. Thoughts?

*I've bought Tron and have gotten rekt since but am still learning.

You ask why, yet you bought Tron yourself? Perhaps ask yourself why you bought that Tron it will be the best insight. The main reason I see people wanting to buy big supplies is because they want to own a large amount and want to own more than one coin. If you had $100 you could either have 0.01 Bitcoin but if it was Ripple lets say you could have 50 Ripple at that price. People like to own more than one of something, and that also applies to cryptocurrencies.

Because the believe in the technology behind the coin, its not about supply because supply is just one factor that you need to be considered before investing, technology and product/services that the coin has to offer, the roadmap of the developers and the credibility of the people behind these coins, theres a lot of factor,if the coin has huge supply but they have given big amout of supply to the public, that wont be a problem

but if the coin is like XRP which the develoeprs and founders has the most supply, STAY AWAY

Why do you buy bitcoin?

The more sustainable or known that currency is more power it has... Also Bitcoin is the best because it's decentralized.. And also, what do you think will happen if btc moons?
All altcoins will come after with great price, so mostly it's better to have in btc, because when btc moons, other crypto goes cheaper against btc.

If you buy some coins and hodl them why not?
Because, IOTA and ADA are great crypto, all other that you mention are garbage or centralized and the biggest scams ever probably....

also i still buy them some because I didn't have them before(IOTA, ADA)..., for hodling, the right time for buying it's allmost anytime... if you wait for the right moment you can do even better...

Yen and Euros have quite a large supply in circulation.

What matters most are how well is the currency distributed among others.
What you can buy or sell with it, and if it will be honored as payment.

For IOTA, I know that the currency will only be as good as the partnerships that they acquire to get manufacturers to use IOTA as payment between machines.

There are millions of machines being used everyday (IOT Devices, Amazon Alexa, Google Mini, Smartphones, Tablets, Refrigerators, Lights, ETC) that can benefit from this method of payment between services.

If your refrigerator comes with A Built-In Repair Insurance in the form of IOTA, The Refridgerator can pay for its own repair service, or reorder food from instacart/amazon key without you being involved.

Your Self Driving Car, can pay the dealership mechanic for any maintenance issues, Pick up more fuel/Recharge and park itself in your garage, while you nap.

Instead of fumbling around for quarters at parking meters and at toll lines, you zip right through because your car makes the payments.

Digital currency can enable alot of interesting scenarios, and you will want to be holding alot of it, before it comes.

A large supply is equal to a small one. If you buy 10 coins of a max supply of 21 million at $100 each, or 1,000 coins of a 2.1 billion supply coin you have the same potential.  If it goes up 30%, you've still made $300. Plus, in the future, large supply coins may become less volatile.

Because all we need to know is to tal Marketcap of that coins. If a coin with huge supply, price per coin was low, and investor just care about how much money did they invest in and if price grow up, they'll earn profit  ;D

What's wrong with huge supply? Market cap is what you need to consider. It doesn't matter if you buy 100,000 of a coin at $1 and it grows 10% or 1 of a coin at $100,000 and it grows 10%. High market cap coins just mean there's less room to grow.

You are complaining why people are investing in cryptocurrencies with huge supply but you said that you bought Tron. so what is the reason you bought Tron in the first place? There is nothing wrong with investing with a coin that has huge supply, if you look at the price of those coins they hardly hit even $1 because even there is a high demand if there is a large amount of supply in circulation, the price will only move slowly. But investing with those coins has also an advantage, like you can buy a lot of coins because it is more cheaper but since the price can only grow slower compared to Bitcoin you will end up holding those coins for long term to gain large profit.

Coin supply isnt really a big thing,a coin which has big supply but well distributed to the people is better than a coin with small suppy which most of its supply is being handled by the founders and developers,so the distribution of a coin should be considerable so that people will still invest to the coin even if the coin has large supply, the quality of the product would be another factor ,and lastly the developer's credibility.

Even with a large supply if the token will gain a lot of usage then why bother the number.

Well you can also see how much money is circulating.
If there is one question that is really hard to explain is, how did it end up like that?
How did iy grow so huge that it went to billions of dollars?
Do people really believe that much in those coins?

People invest in coins with a huge supply, as in such coins huge liquidity, these coins are traded on almost all exchanges, the volatility on these coins is less than on coins with less capitalization. I think these reasons are sufficient.

Title: Re: why the hell people invest in coins with a huge supply.

It's just a trick because of the way how the market cap is calculated. There isn't really that much money getting pumped into a coin as the market cap shows. It's simply the last price multiplied by the supply. A small increase of the price has a huge effect on the market cap, making it easier to land on the first page of CMC.

I think you need to assess each coin on its own merits, based on what if does.  A bad example was PAC, which, when Bitcoin increased significantly in price, meant that 1 PAC became less that 1 Sat, which negatively affected its trading options.

I see no problem with the huge supply. I have invested in couple coins with huge supply and I never had problem with it. I don't think the amount of coins in circulation will push me out of buying if everything else is OK.

You shouldn't look at coin supply. It's just distribution and fraction. Owning 1 out of 10 coins is the same as owning 1,000,000,000 out of 10 billion or even 0.10 out of 1 coin.

What has made you bought tron? If you have become the oldest member of binance and liqui you can get it for free. Not sure about those projects were generating up to billlion amount but it doesn't make sense to me. The team was giving non-sense theory about that. But looks the majority of the project was aiming about mass adoption and that's why they were created so many supply up to billions supply.

Most of the coins with large supply has a very active market. And most of them are the famous coins. People always tends to support the famous one. It has a greater chancee succeeding plus knowingly that many people supports it shows signs that the coin has a future.

Maybe they anticipated that the coins they are investing will become larger as they thought it would be. It is sometimes a matter of our instinct. Sometimes our instinct might be right or wrong. For example, I decided to invest in ethereum. Then the value of ethereum grows and my instinct was right. Sometimes people based it on their experience in bitcoin or other cryptocurrecy coins. You could also check their site and the market whether this coin will grow or not.

I don't worry about the supply of the coin. I really look at the market cap of the coin when deciding to invest. If I want stability its in BTC/ETH, but if I want a moon shot I'll invest a little in smaller market cap coins. The supply of the coin if you're looking to invest is not something to worry about really.

Obviously you have to look at the supply though, since something with a large supply (like Ripple for example) will be worth only a few dollars if it had the current Market Cap of BTC (worth around $10K). I think as long as you're realistic in what a coin can go to based on its supply you shouldn't worry. If you think for example Ripple will go to 10K a coin without looking at the supply, you're gonna have problems...

You know what? Coins with Trillion and Billions supply might look so huge supply as of now, but when the time comes that there will be a massive transfer of wealth and mass adaption of useful blockchain technology, dude even 100 Trillion will not be enough to store wealth.

I think people that invest in high market cap coins are missing the point. Imagine how long it will take for bitcoin to double its price, from 10K to 20K. There are millions of dollars that need to be invested so that it happens.

Instead, low market cap/price coins are more profitable, it's easier to go from 1USD to 2USD, to say an example.

Marketing is one of the keys that lead people to "missinvest" in "safe" crypto's with high market cap, since they are more known in the market.

It's up to the people who invested, some of them don't understand market capitalization and think they are going to be rich if their coin reach bitcoin price and some of them believe huge supply won't matter because the number of people that are going to use it are a lot.

Huge supply meaning there,s powerful system will built and have solution face real market risk. Besides that, you can that coin's you're mention still survive, meaning there's trust from customers about their future. If you have doubt just leave it and let other people replace their money with their faith and strategy. Just like that and see you next time.

I think there will be more potential in less total supply like under 100M coins

Because the durability of a coin can be measured from the amount of inventory available. If their numbers are small it may only last a few months such as shitcoin in my case study, I have never found a shitcoin that lasted up to six months because they have very little supply and eventually they scam.
By investing in coins that are very large inventory at least we are far from the fear of a scam.

With every coin being nearly infinitely divisible the supply doesn't really matter. People are obsessed with the coin supply for some strange psychological reason. Like they absolutely need some basis that they innately understand and that basis is 1 coin should be worth a big amount. So many people ask, what is the best coin under $100? I just want to yell, "They are all under $100! Just buy a small enough amount." It's not like you need an entire coin for it to be useful or have value. They aren't votes.

People bought that kind of coins for short term investment or trading. Usually holding that for long term is a disadvantage. In buying and selling which determine the price of the  altcoins. More volume means many transaction can occur in a short period of time. Thus it is good to trade those coins and usually bad to hold for long term.

As I can see you are a newbie here, so that is fine to not understand the answer to your question. The answer to your question is because the only thing that matters is the market cap. The market cap is an equation of the coins in supply multiplied by their price. Now you understand.

Supply doesn't really matter if there are uses for it. For example, if Bitcoin had billions of tokens it wouldn't be as costly as it is today. There are drawbacks to it but in the long run you can get as much profit. Bitcoin jumps from $10k to $100k is same as billion tokens coin jump from $0.10 to $1. Both are possible and I would say second is more likely than the first one. Risky but reward is there for those who invest.

Coin supplies differ due to the potential use cases of the coin, for me, the supply is not big problem, I usually look at the marketcap, coins distribution, and potential use cases, like in Ripple, a big part is still in devs' hands, and in Tron, mainnet has not launched yet, so there is no use cases for now, it is just a speculative Ether based token.

Everyone wants to see in his wallet is not a single coin and at least a small slide of each of the portfolio. Plus the potential of the coin in growth, but the most important is the capitalization of the coin, it influences both the price and the quantity.

Yes we can say that if it's for long term holding then there's nothing to be bothered. People buy some coins that have a huge supply because the price is much more cheaper and they'll just hold it for long term, then sooner they'll be sitting on their profit. However, you should also check the project of the coins that you'll hold because not all coins that have a huge supply is promising.

More supply is a sign of more people invest and holding the coin more people may buy and hold until price goes up. Than the coin with lesser supply that may have been held mostly and waiting for it to dump.

There is a fact that many investors are involved in this market but they have no knowledge of the cryptocurrency market but only invest because of seeing profits from it. That led to a large amount of money being poured into this market but it caused the market to fluctuate because investors do not have a clear orientation on this market. I think it is advisable to focus on knowledge before you want to succeed in this financial market.

I think gambling with coins is still the number one use and illegal drugs.

One of the main reason is that people used to buy all the best. And here, in cryptomarket, they are trying to do the same thing - to buy coins from TOP 10 of coinmarketcap list (NEO,Cardano,Stellar,EOS) despite the fact that they are rather overbought.

i think many people invest in that coins because of price.
huge supply with cheap price. so you can get much coins.
and this coin have chance to going up faster because the lower price when released.

People don't look at the number of coins. They study the project, look at the growth chart and make a decision. Some coins have burning coins event. For example ripple. The commission for each transaction for XRP is burnt. This constantly reduces the number of coins and raises the price.

Well from your list only three coins deserve attention Cardano, Stellar Lumens, IOTA. Tron is generally in my opinion a useless investment. You know, people invest their money in various projects, because they believe that they will rise in the top 20 and their investments will make a lot of profit.

If you're not into large supplies, look into IoT Chain (ITC). IOTA's rival with low supply and even better tech. this one's underrated for sure. https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/iot-chain/
