Title: Why did they actually enter MERIT ?
Post by: Lucas95 on February 27, 2018, 04:40:05 PM

After reading the topic of innovation in the face of the merit, I decided to ask a question and, most importantly, to find out
your thoughts on this matter.

Why did they actually introduce measures and what are its main functions?

For example, at the moment both in English topics all vied
with the quality of posts and the improvement of the community as a whole, but personally at the moment I see only the opposite side - the
emergence of a black market for the sale of Merit. As they say, the price for 1 merit is already from 8 to 40 !!! green.
And a very strong increase in the prices of accounts.

There are also a lot of questions from the point of view of logic.
For example, as a beginner or junior, presumably just beginning his journey in the world of crypts and blockade technology
can give out something really catchy, interesting and new for the permanent watchdog forum?

Or maybe all this is the beginning of the subsequent rise in prices for signatures (signatures) - the company?
Or a reduction in competition?
Or - all this is the beginning of something much more  Huh

How do you think?

Just get lost buddy, it was already stated on the main post of theymos the main purpose of merits and there's a lot of sub-topic regarding merits, have you ever read some before?
Yeah, in my opinion this merit is freaking me out since I can't rank up and increase my awards at the end of campaign but what to do we just need to follow this damn rules if you want to stay.

There you go (Official announcement by Theymos)
I'm hoping that this system will increase post quality by:
 - Forcing people to post high-quality stuff in order to rank up. If you just post garbage, you will never get even 1 merit point, and you will therefore never be able to put links in your signature, etc.
 - Highlighting good posts with the "Merited by" line.

While we will not be directly moderating this, I encourage people to give merit to posts that are objectively high-quality, not just posts that you agree with.

Do not beg for merit excessively.

One more thing, Theymos said that he has already consider about the last solution if merit system failed to control spammers, totally remove signature campaigns out of the forum, totally destroy this industry to destroy spammers.

I think the rise in price of signatures and the fall of competition is definitely a benefit of the merit system.  From my own point of view I joined the forums I believe in October.. I knew nothing of campaigns or bounties or signatures and was only interested to talk about trading ideas, bitcoins, and potential ICO projects.  The forum was almost unusable at this time then because the spam and post farming was reaching ludicrous levels.  I personally just decided to leave until later finding out about bounties (I always traded before but since the market dried up so much in February I started looking for new things to do and ways to learn that now I see the advantage and why they were farming so many accounts to begin with).  So really my  feelings on this subject come from two different angles.. the part of me that wants the content not involving bounties/signatures to be more usable with helpful opinions and less fluff and the part of me that feels left out for being late to the party and having such a monumental goal in ranking up (especially activity, I think this is the part of the system thats the most unfair compounded with the merits)... but it is what it is.  The forum has plenty of users to have discussions and fill all bounties/signatures without any new users.. so theres no disadvantage to the way the forum works or functions with having a huge progress curve.

Like all things at the end of the day timing is everything.. I missed on the timing so therefore I have to make up for it with pure effort.  I do agree with you that your points are valid, and there may be other reasons too incentive wise coming down the pipe eventually that more selective process is needed to confirm that the users are the best of the best and are legit (either through time spent before vs time spent + merit now) and the level of fairness to how that goes for you will depend on your individual position more than how it goes for the forum itself. (which i think is clearly positive).

Because spammers could create many many accounts and spam with them to gain higher ranks and activity.
With merit its impossible because you need quality posts not spam posts.
One problem with that is, people should reward quality posts which is not always the case because they don't know what merit is here or are just lazy.

I think merit is too scarce.
I want to merit many posts that really deserve it, but I have so few...

Most posts that deserve merit donīt get it. And sometimes a useless pots get 40, 30 merit just because is a friend of other legendary people...

Merit abuse is being monitored, and there's quite a bit of red paint splashing around.

In the mean time, if you have posts you think deserve merit, let us know, or bump them. Beware of bumping crap though.

What do you mean by bump? post a message to bring it to the top?

I haven't been on this forum in ages. I assume merit is similar to the Facebook 'like' button where some members can give other members merit for good posts?

Yes. It's fine to bump a useful message (even your own), but bear in mind that the rules of this forum say you shouldn't do it more than once every 24 hours, and you should delete previous bumps (to keep the thread clean).

Good to know, thank you for this.
