Title: Following Merit and Forum Navigation
Post by: bitmover on March 01, 2018, 12:00:05 AM
I am in this crypto world for about an year, but I was almost solely on Reddit, and I am new to this community.

I ignored bitcointalk for some time, but I was in need for some more technical discussions about bitcoin and I created an account here few weeks ago.
I always found very hard to navigate in this forum and find useful information.

Well, i just discovered a way to read only good topics and discussions.
Just want to share my small discover with you guys.

I clicked on a user that I found who had huge amounts of merit, like 1300, a lot of earned merit. Then I looked over his merited posts, and the posts he gave smerit.

I was amazed! How many good content we have here!! I have a lot to learn.

This community is much better than it looks like!

That's one of the reasons the merit system was added in the first place. I'm glad it's working :)

I'm hoping that this system will increase post quality by:
 - Forcing people to post high-quality stuff in order to rank up. If you just post garbage, you will never get even 1 merit point, and you will therefore never be able to put links in your signature, etc.
 - Highlighting good posts with the "Merited by" line.

I think the adminstrators thought of a way to make users post quality comments or posts so that there will be a minimal consumption of data through the forum to make it faster and concrete. I think that is the reason why merit system was implemented. In fact, merit system is also helpful because it helps us make good quality post to be able to rank up accordingly.
