You can just register with a new name (unless it's already in use).
The forum policy allows alt accounts.

Your new account will work the same as when you first started with your first account.
You don't have any advantages, perks or less restrictions with your alt.

Actually there would be time limit restrictions, since you start with 0 activity.

Contact theymos with this request. While you are allowed to make a new account, for your sake I would suggest just renaming this one so that you don't have to start over.

Yeah, what he said.. a year ago.

Theymos can change your name for free upon request, but if you plan on changing it often you should become a donator.

You can only change your username if you become a donator (and donate 10BTC), or become staff one day.

What is the reason behind why you guys want to change your user names? if you can create new account.
I think there is no option to change the user name once it was created, also if you create an account you make sure the name would be more valuable to you because it would be represent you in this forum.

:o thank you guys
This post was from October 2017.

According to the (unofficial) Rules:
Q: I want to change my forum username. What should I do?
A: You can either donate 50 BTC to become a VIP (https://bitcointalk.org/donate.html) or PM theymos asking to change your username (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=35) (although he rarely accepts such requests nowadays).

@Mame Those accounts (including the OP author) must've been bought.

But I highly doubt that Theymos will grant those types of requests.
Imagine if someone bought an account and he didn't like the username, if it is that easy for a username to be changed, a granted username change request will act as a promotion to account sellers.

I think to change your name you should be a moderator or doner member , you should pay 50 bitcoin to the forum to be a copper member

Here it is:
Yes, a change from alia_armelle to alia is a minor change which I would normally do for anyone who can convince me to spend time on it. (If I recognize your username, I'm much more likely to handle your requests. I'm also much more likely to look into your scam accusations...)

I never accept payment for this sort of thing.

theymos verified alia in /r/GirlsGoneBitcoin, so she had a kind of contact with him.

I think she probably just sent him a PM.  ::) He has also written somewhere that he changes the username in some cases. But there must be a valid reason.

Of course in must have a valid reason, cases like changes of essential information specially name changes might be subjected to a background check. To avoid abuse and being used as an advantage to trick others.

But if the reason is account buying i think theymos will not grant it instead that account would be tagged because account buying/selling is prohibited.
Yes creating new account is much better and multiple account is allow but you do not used those accounts for personal gain like bitcoin farming.

I hope those that have managed to change the username from a time be in this forum to see and comment on this. Changing of username is possible and has been archived by a few even without being a donator and donating a whole 10BTC with the current price..: that’s not what it is. These where presets from a time when Bitcoin price was something easily affordable.

also here for the same question!! ???

There isn’t any need to come up with these post when you aren’t asking any different question other than as stated in OP. Worst still, you are just a newbie (on forum) and there isn’t much need to be worked up on changing your name. Most of those that have happened to need this change in the past are those that have attained certain rank on the forum and have archived so much with an account not to want a different account but for some reason, don’t want to be known by same username from account creation.

Hence, for those of you making this same posts, asking the same question rather than wait, observe the thread for comments and pick out answers that addresses the issue, you could be said to be spamming the forum with these comments.

:o thank you guys
This, this is one way to archive your spam title, no need for this!

The most common reason for a name change is security risk. If a newbie or legendary members needs a name change for their privacy, the admin would attend to it promptly. If it's just for aesthetics, it would take a long while and you'll need to be prominent enough, even that might not be enough.

The most recent newbie I can remember who got a name change appeal granted was a user that opened an account using their email as the username. That presented an obvious security risk which theymos attended to.

Theymos is quick to handle issues concerning users privacy. It doesn’t matter your rank or reputation, if it poses a risk of losing your privacy, Theymos will handle it. I also remember the case of newbie who used his real name to register his bitcointalk account. He soon realized his mistake and requested for change of username, and got his account username changed.

This thread is sleeping for 5 years an then now it's awake because of some questions. Anyways mate you can directly message to theymos the administrator here in forum and give out your reason why you want to change your username or a display name here in our community. And yes what other users said above that it's not just easy to change your username maybe the administrator will agree or guarantee your request if your reason is valid and sincere but you can try maybe your wish may granted by our administrator.  Good luck mate!

Your account has been quite long registered since 2012, which is a reason to add to your chances of getting that done, but your rank is something I may not be able to talk about if the requirements needed for that is inclusive by ranks, but things like this are done base on request through PM to Theymos, he's to decide on wether he can grant you or not, so i will encourage you to do same as others do, give your reasons and attach the old and new username you want to bear henceforth, am sure he will reply you.

Enjoy anonymity.

Now you have a good reason to change your username. Try to send theymos a private message with the reasons in OP, or likely send him the link to this thread. He could consider to change your username. He has done it recently for more than 3 users. The Pharmacist to The Sceptical Chemist, Igehh to igebotz and Ratimov to Symmetric. Although, the above mentioned names are established and reputable members. I don't know if your chances will be slim as per your rank. But considering your registration date, you are old enough to enjoy the privilege, even if it will be for once.

also here for the same question!! ???
I think you have to first contribute in the forum and build up your account to a certain level before you make such an application. Theymos will not go about changing the username of random newbies who will disappear into the tin air any moment.

You are the only one that I read who posted the right advice here, since it is possible to change the username, why are people confusing the OP? I took my time to read this thread since it started with insane advice that the OP should open another account and go through the stress of the new account registration.

To make matters worse, most of those who replied to the OP said the same thing neglecting the fact that the account is not new and has some opportunities/privileges to have some activities and merits that the new account can't provide immediately. Theymos often help people change it, at least the OP will try. But I further advise that he can first continue with the same username and get active and established again on the forum before requesting such.

It's nice to know that Theymos would be willing to do this, I expect it's nothing more than just a couple of keystrokes but on the event you do opt to change your name make sure you're doing this only once  ;)

That's what I thought too, same username for all the platforms tend to end up as someone's downfall when it comes to discovering who's behind that account. If I recall correctly there's a video in TikTok that does this thing where her audiences will try and challenge her to track them down, it's really scary but at the same time amazing with how they work with a little resources and without any help from a computer program or a service.

It does not surprise me much, seriously.
I have seen before people who are part of webpages and groups which try to track down other users in the internet and dox them, for the sake of entertainment/amusement. I recall a case when one of those victims of doxxing had to change their names and move to a different State within the United States of America, in order to escape the continuous attempts to unveil their identities and personal information again.
In the end, the group of doxxers managed to get new names and new address of those people in less than three months of research.
I do not know how they were able to pull off something like that. It would seem that on the internet there is certainly people with special skills to search and connect information, which otherwise would mean nothing to an untrained eye.  :(
