Title: Burnt a chip on my blade erupter :(
Post by: cshelswell on October 09, 2013, 01:32:51 AM
I'm looking for some help or advice on a blade erupter i just got. I managed to set one up no problem but I think I must have got the power a bit funny to the other as I managed to cook a chip :( I've attached a picture. I can't seem to find anything on the net about the damaged one so i'm not sure how to replace it. Just wondering if anyone might know of where I might get a replacement from.

The card still boots and I can access the config screen but it just wont hash. I'd hoped it might only have knocked out a row of asics but the whole card seems to have gone. Totally gutted and hoping I might able to fix it.

Any advice would be very gratefully received.

EDIT: I've just had a bit of help in the direction of this: http://www.vishay.com/docs/72212/si4320dy.pdf (http://www.vishay.com/docs/72212/si4320dy.pdf)

don't know if that helps?

Awesome thanks! On further looking though judging from the surrounding chips i'm going to assume that the mark on it is:

4394
NK∆
W21C

So would that be a different one? My electronics isn't great so the help is much appreciated.

EDIT: Apparently it's a MOSFET but googling 4394 MOSFET doesn't look as productive as the 4320

There were a few sellers on there that noted the minimum at one piece, but you never know :( Might try checking with Newark.com I didn't search there, but they have awesome phone support for stuff like this.

I just had a 1200W PSU start melting one of it's cables (melted the modular connector at the PSU) so all my blades are stopped atm, accept for two I put temp on another PSU, only to semi-freak out when nothing happens after plugging them in, first thing I did was replace the fuse and it works (yay). However I am noticing the fuse that was in the blade from the factory was an 8A, however the extra fuses that came with the blades are all 10A... Anyhow, extra fuse solved it fast, but left me looking for the fuses online, so it's always handy to have some around.

cheers - i actually got a couple of them with the board. It's a shame that didn't go first as i'd have two boards up and running now. Still if it can be fixed I'll be a happy guy.

The fuses are the standard vehicle type.  Any garage will have them, they'll sometimes give you a few if you ask nicely - they're beyond cheap, I think it's about £5 for 100 when you're buying them from a wholesaler.

Not on the v2 blades, the fuses are surface mount fuses.

yeah and sadly not a fuse anyway.

Though I might have found a solution:

PART NUMBER:  SI4394DY-T1-E3
DESCRIPTION:   VISHAY   SOP
MOQ: 10pcs
UNIT PRICE: USD $3.00

From http://www.eis-ic.com/english/ (http://www.eis-ic.com/english/)

So assuming it's the right part then it's not too much to have to fork out to fix it. Plus I'll have some extras if anyone else here blows one :)

great thanks! Looks like it's only $10 to buy 40 more so I'm going to grab 50 of them. If anyone else here finds themselves in the same situation as me I should have some spares :)

Contact the seller, blades are supposed to have a 6 month warranty.

So not being too great at electronics I'm wondering if i might have found a donor part to fix my blade. I need one of these http://www.vishay.com/docs/72713/si4394dy.pdf (http://www.vishay.com/docs/72713/si4394dy.pdf) and I have one of these http://www.vishay.com/docs/70796/70796.pdf (http://www.vishay.com/docs/70796/70796.pdf)

I'm probably not reading it right but they look very similar. Just wondering if it might do the job?

Cheers

Check with these guys, they'll sell individual components.

http://www.ebay.com/usr/smallpartsbigdifference

They don't have yours listed, but they very well might be able to get it to you.

nice one thanks. I have actually got some ordered from China. I was just being a bit impatient. Kind of hurts to know it's just sat in a box doing nothing right now when it should be busy hashing away :)

Man, what happened, is your power supply not regulated or something?

yep I think bad power is exactly what it was and i hate to admit it but I fear it might have been my fault. I bought 2 and got the second one hashing away nicely. I've got 50 chips coming from china this week (it was cheaper to buy 50 rather than 1!) and I've found someone in my town who has the tools to solder it properly for me.

A minor set back before it'll be going again :) (i hope). There is one good thing about it though, I know how to wire them now!
