Title: WallMart of Bitcoin
Post by: Professor James Moriarty on October 12, 2013, 11:29:45 AM

Do you believe this could happen? I mean not an actual store but an online store where you can get daily stuff for very cheap with you bitcoin with + delivery type of deal. Of course it would start very local (I suggest new york or california) and move on from there on to pretty much anywhere.

Yes its not that easy to get one bottle of shampoo and when you add the shipping/delivery it costs more but if you buy bulk maybe there could be someway around it. Like when you buy a pizza you don't pay for delivery , you pay for pizza , so why not with groceries?

I suggest a cool market adapting this to see how it would move on. Maybe it will help with the volume ?

I think it might be understood wrong.

I am not saying wallmart should accept bitcoin (tough that would be great)

I am just saying we should be able to buy groceries with bitcoin. I know it would be great If I could buy a pack of winston for bitcoin.

At some time in the not too distant future this may indeed be a reality :-)

That would be great, slowly we won't need currency any more.

It would be great but the prices would be wild. Like for example a tissue that costs $1 per pack, how would you stick a price tag? Maybe digital signage for the prices? With price ticker moving from time to time?

Groceries are hard. They have a super-short shelf life. Amazon doesn't even touch stuff with a <1mo shelf-life. They'll sell you two-year-old beef jerky, though.

A delivery service is more feasible in a very small area if you can advertise it well-enough, but very limited unless you franchise it out, which gives you that MLM reputation you probably don't want. Best bet would probably be a subscription model with weekly deliveries, collecting the bulk of profits from people under-utilizing their subscription while providing excellent service to those who do (their word-of-mouth will bring in tons more profit in the form of more underutilizing subscribers).

Of course - then you get the elderly and otherwise-disabled dependent on the system, a giant snowstorm blows over and OSHA tells you delivery-folk can't go out, so you wind up with a class-action shutting down the business.

There must be a good placed manhattan grocery store with one delivery guy. If you buy lets say 0.1 bitcoin or more product they deliver it for free in anywhere at manhattan. Something like this would definetly work.

To move on to bigger stuff you can open another place at bronx or jersey or whatever, you know still bitcoin reachable place but close to your first shop , and move out like that until you have enough places.

Also germany seems like a place to do this , they are very into bitcoin.

I would suggest grocery stores to check up on delivery cost and product cost and find the best available profit margin just to implement bitcoin somehow. That would get your volume really high in a correct place. People of bitcoin and the ones who mined couple years ago spends hundreds of coins just on gambling , think how much they would love to get their groceries :D you can even make more profit from bitcoin comparing to dollar.

If you were to have a store like this, with anything available, It would be super hard to manage.
Perhaps a more narrowed down store would work.

There are already variety stores? The difficult part is not having a place like this , its called 'grocery store' there is like one in every street by now :D The difficult part is either delivery or you have to pick it up yourself.

I guess a service like bitsumo could do this?
