Title: And so the dumping begins..
Post by: Oldminer on July 23, 2011, 10:22:26 AM
Right on cue..

Any wagers as to what the price is going to drop to this weekend?

I'm predicting low $12's...perhaps a tad under $12...

I doubt we'll break below 13.

Hmm Oldminer, this is a bit like the thread I made a few hours ago....

I think it will get as low as 12.5 USD on Gox! Mainly because I sold off around 13.65 haha....

I feel the urge to post in this stupid thread. OP learn about market depth before pulling low 12s or tad below 12 from your obviously broken magic ball. You can have a wet dream about prices falling this weekend, so your prediction would be right and you could post here as a hero and tell me how stupid I am. But that won't happen, so I'm telling you to learn market depth and use it.

Looking at the combined order book depth, seems we'll be in the 13.50 - 14.00 range to me. I'm interested to see what will happen when the lag time from the CNN story reaches about one week plus.

Yea just noticed that looking at market depth.

Dumpings over ladies and gents. Continue as you were.  ;D

Btw, has anyone noticed the number of trades going on over the last hour or so? It seems unusually high. Wondering if European transfers to Gox are finally taking effect?

OP has done this before. He hasn't been here that long, yet his post count and name suggest he's old school and knows what he's talking about. Maybe he is and this is all bullshit to entice a panic. Guy predicted doomsday not too long ago. I almost bought it then. I'm not buying it now. He's hoping you all sell and buy back in. Just hold.

If someone is foolish enough to trust anything regarding future price on this forum, even coming directly out Satoshi's butt, maybe he/she deserves a lesson then. Nobody knows where the price will go, just speculating.

At the moment I would love to see a rally, but you need to know something:

....so I'm telling you to learn market depth and use it.

4th of July weekend BTC fell over $3, and had enormous depth on the buy side prior to the fall.
Many of those orders seemed to be cancelled before being hit (thus they were "fake" or the buyers got nervous and wanted a lower price)

....so I'm telling you to learn market depth and use it.   :D

I'm still wondering which charts you people are looking at.  The price looks the most stable its ever been with a bunch of bots fighting over pennies from 13.62 to 13.69 or something.

The Bulls:
The Saturday mini-Rally "spiked" to 13.90, the highest it has been for ~2 days. Before that it was trapped at ~13.40 to 13.70 or 13.76. Usually Saturday is a down day, so it looked like a rally could be kicking off now..

The Bears:
If this is a Rally!, then we should all be Bears.   :D

Who knew mybitcoin was going to get hacked and tons of coins were going to get stolen? I wouldn't be surprised if they were being dumped on the market. This is no different than all those people who said bitcoin was doomed then MTGOX got goxed and bitcon went down to a penny a coin and they all said "I TOLD YOU SO!" This was a freak accident.

I'm not talking about incorrect predictions, that happens 24/7 in every market. I'm talking about being so sure about "predictions" that you resort to insulting people's intelligence.

Edit: www.mybitcoin.com ...chances are they aren't being dumped onto the market at all.

Because they say so????

Mybitcoin and Bitomat are compromised... in the next 48 hours there's a very large amount of BTC dumped into MtGox... related? Nah, of course not!

Well, that doesn't address the question of why they'd waste their time posting notices if they've liquidated what they've stolen. Unless they're trying to stabilize what they perceive to be an unstable market, until they've gotten rid of everything.

Their notice claims that they have lost BTC. So let's assume you have the bright idea to take off with other people's money. A week goes by and you start detecting (on this forum and on IRC) that some pretty smart people are beginning to get clues as to who you are, where you are, etc. So you post a note on the site saying, essentially: "wasn't me! We lost some coins! Sorry! Wasn't me!"

What happened during that missing week? They sold the coins! What else were they doing? Playing gin rummy?

More likely that the hacker who sold (undisclosed so far) amount from Mybitcoin.com has immediately sold it at the market price and caused the little panic here. I think MBC would be wise to work with MtGox now and check for new BTCs coming in in amounts similar to what has been stolen. I understand it could and most probably was split, but chances are they can detect unusual behavior and then analyse the blocks before money get out to dwolla.

somebody really wants to keep BTC in single digits it seems, 15k ask wall at $10 been built. so which one falls or is removed first, the $9 bid or $10 ask? that would more or less determine our direction for tonight.

Let it drop till $0.01
Buy 1,000 BTC for $10.-

Since BTC will never die it will 'rally' (probably within an hour, day of week) to $0.10
Sell 1,000 BTC for $10,000,- (profit = $9,990.-)

Goto start

(can't wait... ;D)

Yeah, set up a bot to watch MtGox, if the price moves > 5% up or down it makes an "OMG, the price just (Jumped/Crashed)" thread, if it goes 5 days without moving >5% then the bot makes a "Wow, it's really steady" thread.
