Let me guess, 40 identical messages: "hello"
Read the rules

Just an FYI for anyone that may see this thread and come here to complain...

I'm working on purging the useless spam hello/welcome posts from the newbie section.  Looks like a lot of people were just using those to get their post count up.

Why are posts in that thread being deleted?

I'm not sure why those posts would be deleted, it would have to have been done by a global mod or admin.

Well, I don't see any real reason for posts in the off topic section to be deleted. That thread has already been ruined as some numbers are missing due to the deletion of posts..

You should probably restart from the beginning. A clean slate, if you will.

Could a mod/admin recommend a way to welcome new users without violating the TOS? I often say welcome or hello to newbies. It is good to welcome them and I would not want to end the practice. Would a longer welcoming response do the trick?

Add some content to the post.  I'm just trying to remove the clutter/spam from the newbie forum, one sentence replies with no content are no fun  :(

I don't think that is a problem if you have other types of posts outweighing the "town greeter" posts. There were a lot of proto-scammer type accounts around lately where 95% of posts were just "Welcome back" in an obvious attempt to pump their numbers.

Thank you for the responses! In the future, I will make sure I give a welcome that informs or answers a question. I have been a mod for a video game forum and feel for the mods here. Who are doing a good job, by the way.  :-*

It's ok to greet newbies in my opinion. they're jailed there and it can't hurt to let them feel welcomed.

Wouldn't it be more resource-efficient to just ban the practice of sig advertisers which pay based on posts/month? It's even enforceable.

Probably, but I think that would be a little harder to enforce.

Also it gives me something to do while work is slow  ;D

Just go right to the source. Offer it and have domain censored across forum - or at least demand a bribe for your work.  :P

Posts? What about whole threads?

I was viewing a thread this afternoon which had maybe only 4-5 replies. After reading through I went to comment and the thread had been deleted? It had only been active for 20 minutes at most, and nothing in there violated the t&c's whatsoever. A youtube video link and a few comments on it.

Seems to be a few oddity's and discrepancy's cropping up since the 'hack'....Just saying  :-\

I don't know about the thread you are referencing, but some of the links i see here are clickjackers. Perhaps that is why it was deleted?
