Title: GOVERNMENTS CAN CONTROL CRYPTOCURRENCY
Post by: sirkings0003 on March 14, 2018, 10:56:03 AM
There have been a lot of arguments concerning this topic. Again, there have been a lot of pronouncements from governments officials pertaining cryptocurrency control and people actually reacted to them.

Even though some governments may want people to think they control and regulate cryptocurrencies, that is far from the case, as cryptocurrency cannot be regulated or controlled by default. Companies providing solutions related to this new form of money, on the other hand, are subject to existing guidelines which apply to other financial service providers as well. The flow of money in the cryptocurrency world is not controlled by any central authority, nor will it ever be.

What is your own thoughts about this?

No, they can't, but they can control exchanges, credit card companies and money which is exchanged from crypto.

No one can control crypto itself.

No one can control a decentralized crypto. Flow of fiat can be monitored. New form of money isn't subjected to existing guidelines...then it wouldn't be new ;D....The government has control over fiat...crypto to fiat (no freedom)...illusion...cryptoeconomics (freedom)

Whatever the private sector comes up with, the government is always trying to control it.Some people try to ban cryptocurrency because they can not control it..They consider it a threat but more nachinat to show interest in her. Some members of the government themselves are not keeping their capital in bitcoins. The question arises. Where did they get them. I don't think they sit on bitcoin taps or and collect signatures in companies or have a home farm for cryptocurrency mining. The salary in bitcoins in our country, too, do not pay. It's not hard to guess how they got them. All attempts to introduce the cryptocurrency into the legal field led to nothing. In any case, they will try not to miss the bonuses from taxation on cryptocurrency transactions.

As above how we transact our crypto to FIAT or use FIAT to get crypto can be controlled to a degree.
We can still trade with each other and bypass banks ( PEER-TO-PEER as satoshi intended ) to convert to and from Crypto and FIAT.

Banks hate our crypto, they are not making money from our use of it and it means we are not using their services as much.

The can control everything before you send to a blockchain (And immediately after you leave it).
Also, they can create some cryptocurrencies by investing small % of their money so ... they are far from being irrelevant

It's true that government or any other regulatory body can't control bitcoin, but they can certainly regulate the circulation and reach of Cryptocurrency in their own jurisdiction. That's exactly what governments are trying to do. They are imposing tax on their citizen's Cryptocurrency income and allowing it to mix with their strictly centralized economy by providing a framework. Trust me, regulation and taxation will actually help to increase the adoption rate of Cryptocurrency.

The fact is that no one can control bitcoin or stop it from functioning or being in existence, but the problem is governments can control how we will use our bitcoins and alts.  They can ban exchanges, banks from accepting crypto, ICOs and even certain websites.

External Control, Yes. Mainly to Control, No. Bitcoin is powered by blockchain system which cannot be control by any organization, institution and even the government, In short it has no governance. The pricing will depend on the demand and supply. What government can do is to put limits, laws, rules and regulations on its territory and people they handled or being ruled.

They can control some of our lives and crypto is connected to them indirectly. I can't buy airplanes and boats without paying taxes.
I still need to convert my crypto to fiat in order to buy something. Those are some of the limitations for now.

Many of the crypto currency is decentralised one. Bitcoin is the decentralised digital currency,so it can't be controlled by any one.So I don't think bitcoin is control by the government. Some of government start to regulate the bitcoin, but this make people to pay tax.

Cryptocurrency was meant to be decentralized, give access to unlimited money possession, unable depositing and withdrawal without third party interference, but the rate at which KYC is require everywhere means government have started controlling cryptocurrency already.

Governments can't do anything other than controlling the centralized part of this market, and that's exactly where it stops. Bitcoin is its own regulation, and one that can't be stopped, unless governments shut down the entire internet, but that would result in far more negative consequences for the non crypto economy, and thus it's not a viable option. It's that I use a centralized exchange to trade on, but if I decide to distance myself from that at whatever point in the future, I will no longer touch one single centralized exchange ever again. The only centralized service I will keep using, is a mixer when I need to have my coins mixed, but I expect at some point that even this process will be decentralized.

If the cryptocurrency is controlled by the government, then the cryptocurrency is not decentralized and does not conform to the essence of cryptocurrency.

Governments can only control the currencies that they create, nothing more than that. Bitcoin is already in the wild wild west, they can only control something like petro, or they can create some centralised crap like ripple. If they try to regulate it then people will switch to privacy coins like xspec or deep onion which are TOR integrated coins

Government can only hear and say anything about crypto but never be able to hold it or do something about them.

If we think logically, governments can control everything, will not be able to control blockchain? If they can control the Blockchain, why don't they control? I was sending money through banks until I learned the Blockchain, now I sit in my house and i can send money to where I want, as much as I want, without third person knowing. If the States, the Banks know this, why do they give up their profits?

Very true, the government can't really control the crypto currencies specially the processing that is why its commonly called decentralized but the government can 100% control the exchanges thru regulations but limited to imposing tax, monitor transactions, and most of all to ban it if they would like.

No, they can't, but they can control exchanges, credit card companies and money which is exchanged from crypto.

No one can control crypto itself.

It won't be a problem soon when decentralised exchanges (which already work) become popular. We won't have to exchange cryptocurrencies to fiat if they become accepted all around the world. We are not that far from achieving that. It only requires us to stop using normal exchanges and worrying about governments whose aim is to kill cryptocurrencies before they will expand more and start to be used in our daily life.

They can't control cryptocurrencies directly, but they can implement rules, that may affect cryptos spreading and their price. We have a lot of examples which prove that: taxes, banning by countries and by media, spreading of false stories, market manipulation, etc.

Governments will come with regulations, to prevent criminal activities like f.i. money laundering they say. They are pushed by banks and financial institutions, because these entities fear cryptocurrencies. They cannot control cryptocurrencies and that's scary to them. But with the regulations, governments can control exchanges and track information of their clients.

They cannot actually have power over it since cryptocurrency is decentralized. However, government can really affect the market demand. They have control over banks, credit card companies, and exchanges where they can actually regulate it and limit it. So, this has a direct impact on the market demand. So, just imagine if the government may not even care or regulate cryptocurrency, but instead they prohibit credit card or financial institution from getting involved with it.

There's no need to control it directly, it's enough to control the entry and the exit point of money to/from blockchain. When it's about to exchanging the existing coins to fiat, there's the point when the tax authorities are interested in the transaction. This is enough, as long as the acceptance of cryptos are remaining in this state. As soon as people will accept crytos for p2p trades (like they will accept bitcoin when selling a second hand laptop, PC or anything else) than it will be harder to the authorities to manage the whole process. As long as the merchants won't accept bitcoin because of the uncertain law situation, governments have the time to think about the necessary steps to handle cryptos...

Nope it is not meant to be decentralized, I believe they can be both centralized and decentralized.  And I believe the government can control cryptocurrency if they try harder.  It is hard but for a normal person to encash cryptocurrency, they need to pass exchanges and there where the government can control the process.

Cryptocurrencies are not developed by ngos. Until now, bitcoin and its many competitors have been developed independently of the central authorities. In theory, governments can control virtual currencies more effectively than paper currencies, since the government can monitor all transactions recorded on the blockchain ledger.

Thanks to the dominance of the us dollar and the us banking system, the us has a degree of control over the financial system. If enough countries set up their own digital currency systems, they will operate outside the existing framework to undermine traditional global central Banks.

I don't think government can ever control decentralized cryptos. They will find ways to control it but everytime they try to, they will always fail to achieve it. Maybe transactions can be traced by tracing exchangers used by users, from here they can put regulations and taxes if they wanted, but controling and taking over cryptos or ban person uses bitcoin, they can't do that unless they totally ban transactions with connections to cryptos in some countries or all over the world which is possible if they will try hard.

If you mean control in a way that they are not directly managing it then it can. They could pose threats for example which can affect bitcoin demand.

Because many people have invested their money in cryptocurrency less knowledge about it. So if there are Bad news about cryptocurrency like government ban, they are panic and sell all their crypto currency.

I think thy never been control crypto because one of the main reason is this decentralize therefore no one can manipulated and controlling it.  We can do a transactions without knowledge of the third parties and by here we have our financials freedom. There is no government that gives the rules and regulations that sometimes it's making miserable to others. They can't be enter this kind of system and cannot hold it just to manipulating it.

But bitcoin can never be controlled by the government in a way that the government will regulate the value. Bitcoin cannot be totally controlled by government.

If they're really invested in it they could. They can't control it "directly" but they could control it by manipulating its environment. Crypto is small compared to first world governments. If they had a cause worth the expense, they could "control" it. Especially during the early stages when cryptos are conveniently almost dependent to exchanges. As long as there is somesort of dependency between crypto and fiat, there is some potential it could be taken over.

Global government agencies have shown a willingness to continue or begin to regulate cryptocurrency, as if the biggest Banks and financial firms are waiting for greater certainty before they actually enter the market. Countries such as venezuela have had to act to fight runaway inflation.

No one can control the spread of encryption.

Sure they want to! not quite sure they will able to! But as far as I understand week point we have exchanges. So governments may hit there, take under control exchanges and that is all.

Governments will not control cryptocurrencies in the way you are saying. You are mixing things. KYC doesn't mean the control of blockchain and centralization, this is impossibe.
The measures that governments are taking or trying to take include defintions by law and customers protection, misuse of cryptocurrencies, dividing legal from illegal, control of exchanges and other business entities that deal with cryptocurrencies and similar.
People, don't spread panic and false information.

I am completely agreeing with the fact that there is no central governing body over BTC and moreover this is also very difficult for the government to control over BTC, but now this is necessity for the bitcoin to be centralized because Now people are hesitating in investing into BTC because government is taking no responsibility for BTC and any loses regarding bitcoin, so it's very necessary for BTC t be centralized, though this is very difficult but government have to control it.

They can't control cryptocurrencies directly, but they can implement rules, that may affect cryptos spreading and their price. We have a lot of examples which prove that: taxes, banning by countries and by media, spreading of false stories, market manipulation, etc.
Yes, government can actuall control the cryptocurrency. But only in their country. They regulate the coins that enter in their country. Even qe say that the bitcoin is legal in one coutry we mist be careful because we know thqt the bitcoi  are always used by bad people so we need to strong our securities. And worst case. Cryptocurrency can kill usong banning it in one county

No one can control a decentralized crypto. Flow of fiat can be monitored. New form of money isn't subjected to existing guidelines...then it wouldn't be new ;D....The government has control over fiat...crypto to fiat (no freedom)...illusion...cryptoeconomics (freedom)
no you are not right. Flow of cash cannot be monitored and that is why cash becomes illegal for operations between companies (at least it is happenning in Europe). Fortunately cash is still legal amongst the citizens, but in some countries there are limits too or the cash transactions are viewed as suspicious (vide Sweden)

Crypto on the other hand can be monitored. Did you hear about dust transactions? They enable to connect many addresses to a single user verified to only one of the addresses by KYC regulations. Monitoring of crypto is seriously and successfully attempted as we speak.
