Title: Cool down time for reporting posts to be reduced.
Post by: TheBeardedBaby on March 18, 2018, 09:46:19 AM
Hello guys and girls,

I have following suggestion> The waiting time between reporting posts to be slightly reduced.
Maybe can be based on Merit instead of Rank.
Now a member has to wait 11 seconds between reporting two posts.

And if I want to report something like this, I have to waste half a minute >

Are you running into this issue often? Maybe theymnos should reduce the time for members and above. Alternatively when you're reporting lots of people like this just report one and leave a note that there's plenty of others after it that need removing. Some other restrictions should probably be put into place to stop those (likely bot spammer shills because it's a colossal waste of time dealing with them.

Well, while I'm hunting for ICO bumpers, very often I see many shitposts in a line like I posted on the OP. When I start reporting them I already have an auto-fill for " spammer", "positing in other language in English threads" or similar so it doesn't take much time for me to report a post.

I thought that instead of wasting the mods time to browse through some ANN threads with 100000 posts, I can just point out the spam massages. I have my post count view "on", so I can easily spot a spammer with more than 25 posts and I always check those profiles. If they really break the rules more than 3-4 times I just list them on my List Rule-Breakers.  (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2977866.0) and mprep is cleaning them from time to time.

I see now that I'm white listed, thank you for that.

Edit> I tried it, it's working perfect now, thanks again.

This issue have been a very common sight in the Chinese section, you could easily find tons of accounts posting multiple posts that just consists of 2 to 4 Chinese characters in many threads, and those posts does not even make any sense at all in that thread.

Multiple off-topic threads flooding the main board are not being move to the proper child boards in the Chinese section and all these newly created off-topic threads are so popular among users, basically you could see those threads getting a lot of new replies within a few hours and that means continuously bumping those threads back to the front page of the main board again.

It seems that there is totally no action taken by the local moderator at all even after reports have been submitted to him by the users after many weeks, I think other moderators who could understand Chinese might need to render their assistance and help HorseRider to tidy up the Chinese section.

Kind of nuisance for me too, actually.:/ Perhaps I rarely 'hunt' the shitposters, but there're many offtopic and doubling threads in our local board and it happens to be quite straining and time-consuming to wait until the cool down ends (though it reduces for a bit with the activity growth).

In my opinion, to have quality articles and the right topic, there should be rules on posts more closely. Then widely announced to the campaign participants know. But they should not delete their posts arbitrarily because they think there are too many postings. Take a closer look at the articles that try on the right topic and quality because when posted, they have spent a lot of work on their article.

I know that English is not first language, but man, I can't understand a bit of what you are saying. I see no relation to the OP but please someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Reading through your previous comments and  brain hurts now.... I prefer listening to cockney instead ;)
How did you end up to Sr. Member at all?

I have to wait 4 seconds between posts, and I run into this error too while reporting posts.

I do this sometimes, but I have no idea how effective it is compared to just reporting many posts. Threads like that have hundreds of spam posts, which makes it an impossible task for moderators to clean up.
I actually made a thread about "great project"-posts before: Patrol: "Great Project". Cleanup request/discussion for Mods. (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2858894)

I opened myself a thread reporting a variety rule breakers after I asked mprep what is the best way to report accounts.

~sinp~
I report mostly posts, can I report profiles if I see something suspicious and how? It would be helpful if we get a "report Profile" button, it may reduce the account farming.
Not really. Starting a thread in Meta or PMing one of the global mods and / or admins is the only way to report a user rather than his post or PM AFAIK.

Interesting, after I rank up, came back to the same issue, this time like LoyceV, 4 seconds between reports.
I guess the white listing is working only on the current rank, if you rank up, you go back to the default settings for the new rank.
I thought that the Legendary rank should have lower cool down time than the Full Member but looks like they have the same.

4 second cool down is pretty standard I still run into it from time to time, but I've changed my process to accommodate and to not hit the limit. I now only report one comment at a time, where as before I used to shift click on the report to moderator button on all the posts I wanted to report and then fill in the information and send them all off together or something along the lines of that although I can't quite remember the exact process. Now I shift click, fill in the information and then submit it and move onto the next. I only run into the 4 second cool down now and then by doing this.

I've actually asked this question in the past and it seems some moderators prefer you do it this way and then others prefer you report all the messages individually. I guess if you are running into cool down times it's beneficial to just report one and include a note that there's more.

You could do other things in that 11 seconds of your waiting time, like, open 2 windows of your browser, 1 for reporting and 1 for browsing through the forum (or maybe 1 for editing your thread because you find more of rulebreakers). 4 seconds cooldown for legendary ranks is already a standard i guess, like Welsh said.

I really want to do this "report to moderator" activity sometimes and help the forum, but time doesnt let me to do it in near time, hope i can join this activity too.

It annoys me too, while i'm reading a post that would help me gain information about crypto as always i saw a post that doesn't help like nice project. When i scroll for another post from another users it would take me another scroll just to get pass useless post.

For me 4 seconds are OK, I was white listed before and I ranked up two weeks ago and I just wanted to mention that if you was white listed before you just loose this privilege.

Regarding the reporting to mods every mod has different way of dealing with them. I got advice from mprep to make a list and report them from time to time.

I tried also writing in the report that the user ot the threat has to be reviewed but I got the reporting accuracy declined, idk if that was the reason but never happen again afterwards.

I try to report some every day. Checking the patrol from time to time, but really something has to be done with the ico pumpers and and the bots, it's horrible, also the confirmation email has to be implemented just to make their work harder, now it's too easy.
