Title: $.01 QR code becomes $1000.08
Post by: mogrith on October 23, 2013, 02:30:48 AM
This is odd

I think the $.01 is too small and it went from 0.0000514905 BTC to 5.14905 BTC

This is with a coinbase button at address in sig and a android coinbase wallet.

you probably should report it, probably a backend error.

Or try it again.  Profit.

Time for the old you send me 0.00005 on coinbase and I'll send you 0.00006 in bitcoin-qt

This is the cause:
bitcoin:12WWoWbnNCPcGegxvkcgvMEKfsm1VfjJda?amount=5.149e-05&message=Cuz%20my%20random%20babbling%20is%20worth%20half%20a%20two%20cents%20worth

Bitcoin URIs do not support scientific notation, and I don't know why Coinbase expected that to work. Bitcoin-Qt (rightly) gives an error when trying to parse this URI.

They probably didn't do it on purpose, it's likely the default in android to switch to scientific notation at some number of decimals.

Mycelium wallet gives an 'Amount too small' error. and it may be with BTC at this level.

The
bitcoin:12WWoWbnNCPcGegxvkcgvMEKfsm1VfjJda?amount=5.149e-05&message=Cuz%20my%20random%20babbling%20is%20worth%20half%20a%20two%20cents%20worth

is what the QR code translates too.
