Title: Any fluke solo luck stories?
Post by: FiatKiller on October 23, 2013, 02:00:33 PM
So with all the talk of difficulty being so high soon that even a KNC will not cut it, I was wondering how many of you have tried solo BTC mining and actually hit a block quickly against all odds? I'm sure the opposite has happened also where the calculator says you should hit a block every two months and it actually took four...

If I had been solo mining since I starting mining around summer last year, I would have made a lot more than I have from pool mining.

I have found 2 blocks, which if I was solo mining would have given me 75 BTC. And just a few days ago, I almost found another block, but the share difficulty was only 266M, just 1M short.  :(

The variance is too high, I won't risk it :)

Except that if you were solo, you wouldn't have helped your pool find "X" number of blocks. Which would have altered the blockchain and caused you to find 0 to >10 blocks. It's a total crap shoot. Random luck with higher odds for higher hash.

Yeah I see what your saying but if you was solo mining the block header you was hashing would be different. In other words you would of never found those high difficulty hashes.

On the other hand you may of found more! You'll never know.

I just do cloud mining now.  It avoids all the hardware issues of mining =)

Do you seriously post this in EVERY thread that has to do with mining?  I know you're new and all but get over it already, everyone is aware of CEX.io at this point.  Go spam your crap somewhere else.

Alright...alright...I'm getting over it...relax.  Just excited about it and wanted to share it.  It's so smart!  Wondering why don't all the companies do it.

I swear as soon as I linked my signature I saw a flood of others doing it too.  I learned to stop chiming up my referral real quick.  So we've come to a thread of bickerings here eh?  Not one person wiling to share their lucky flukes?

No, gambling has negative expected earning, with solo mining (thus not paying pool fees) you have positive expected earning over pool mining (but much higher variance)

Well, a more balanced and logical approach to this is to try it for short periods of time. This way you do not lose much over the steady income, but you have a shot at glory.
