Title: Spammer??
Post by: jerick06 on March 22, 2018, 01:04:12 PM
I know that the merit system aims to reduce spammers here in the forum. But what if I have 200+ activities but only have 1 merit? Do you consider me as a spammer?

People here in the forum keeps talking about merits and ranks but me? I'm not aiming to level up my rank. I'm aiming to meet the requirements what my ICO requires. I know that users may say that signature campaigns makes spammers because of thier post requirement per week but not all signature campaigners are posting shitty replies or topics. Maybe some of us are unlucky or still practicing their writing skills to be able to make a constructive post. If you're going to reply this thread, please don't bash me I'm just stating my opinion.

Not necessarily but you may be. What I would think is that you're not here because you are interested in learning about and getting involved with Bitcoin. That is after all the primary purpose of the forum. Other people use it for different reasons like earning money. That's OK if they just post in those bounty threads or whatever and don't get paid for spamming the rest of the forum. But they shouldn't expect their accounts to rank up. That's the point of Merit, only those that do something worthwhile get Merit and increase rank.

Of course the real way to tell if someone is a spammer is to check their post history.

Edit:
Exhibit A:

Page 17 of has trading become difficult? (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2557772.0)
Yes because there is no assurance that you can gain more profit. You have to monitor the chart time to time to get the right time to sell. I suggest you to read about trading so that you can have strategies and techiniques regarding this matter

A post that obviously nobody will ever read as it will quickly be buried amongst all the other inane replies. Those threads only exist to get spammed. No doubt something very similar and meaningless has already been said dozens of times in that thread, but nobody cares, they're not reading they're just posting to get paid.
Grade A example of signature spam and it looks like you do a lot of it.

I wouldn't call you spammer but looking at your last two pages of posts they are mostly just fairly average one/two liners which are almost certainly going to go unmeritied. The one merit you have received is just for pretty much posting a link to an article for discussion (which you don't seem to have linked right). If you want posts to be merited just try putting a bit more thought and effort into them or contributing to discussions etc.

I am not an expert myself to be in position to judge your posts. But just not being a spammer is not going to get you merit points. There is a lot of competition for merit points and you need to be extraordinary in order to leave others behind. Some have been able to rank from Jr Member to Member and few also became Full member from member after the merit system. But it requires more quality posts then what you are making currently. There are signature campaigns for Junior members as well which  you can join if you are interested.

Not.really, if you ask Mr. Google about the diffinition of spamming then you'll know the answer, this situation won't be avoided since many of us is joining bounty as long as you make post constructively and diffinitly your not spammer.

According to the OED

https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/spam

Spam
1 Irrelevant or unsolicited messages sent over the Internet, typically to a large number of users, for the purposes of advertising, phishing, spreading malware, etc.

If someone is just posting because they are paid by an advertiser to do so and the posts are irrelevant (giving the same answer in a thread that has already been given countless times) then it qualifies as spam.

I think that anyone who creates a new thread about merits at this stage can be considered to be a spammer.

Well if you want to get eligible for some good projects you really need to get a rank up . Because their minimum requirements starts from a full member in some cases and for that a level up is surely needed in your case . Take it as a good advise or just a random comment but you really needs merit if you want to get something good out of the forum and those merits comes with posting something that is worth meriting.

There are lots of problem with the merit system that still have to fixed. If there is a customer support then we can share all the problems we are facing right now. And we can block the spammers in the forum.
