I'm considering to buy and hold some privacy coins for long term. I read some articles and they said governments are taking harsh stances on privacy coins. Do you think they will ban all privacy cryptocurrencies by prohibiting exchanges to list those coins?

Not going to happen because the main aim of cryptocurrencies are decentralization ,two anonimity and freedom with your transactions.Doesnt make sense why would these countries will ban privacy coin and why others altcoins wont? if they want cryptocurrencies to collapse why not do it in just one global ban? if they ban privacy coins morelikely they will ban all the cryptocurrencies.

I read an article that Japanese government pressure coincheck into delisting Privacy Coins Monero, Dash, and Zcash. I'm afraid that many other exchanges will follow suit when government tighten the regulations. For other cyptocurrencies, you can know who send, so you can blacklist those suspicious accounts in the database, but for privacy coins it's impossible. For that reason, it's likely ban will happen.

Anything is possible but cross-chain decentralized exchanges supporting multiple currencies will make banning crypto a symbolic yet practically pointless gesture.  

Think it yourself is it possible? I think that this is simply not possible, probably they will try to do it, but unfortunately it simply can not be done, because the network is a very smart space.

If any governments can't controle DNS servers then they can't controle nodes of private currencies.

Our market wont be completed without these privacy coins,that is why it is called privacy coins because they are giving us anonimity with each trasactions it gave us a lot of freedom to transact anywhere without risking our identity,if these countries will ban or restrict these countries it would be much better if they did ban all of these cryptocurrencies because it is the same thing what will happen if they are going to restrict privacy coins!

Why do you think it's impossible for governments to prohibit exchanges to list privacy coins?

Who knows... I think they  want to do it but they really can't. So they can't prohibit developing crypto. And there's a lot of decentralized exchanges and we can do P2P deal at least.

Not they can't ban some tithing if it is legal, if it's illegal then, yes they can ban it! All they want to do, is regulate cryptocurrency and make it be or less be in control and less volatile, as right now no ones is regulating and it is posing some financial risk to the financial sector! I hope it will get regulated as soon as possible and then we are going to benefit all, of course big whales are against that and turning the market against it, but trust me, in my opinion it is very good, if it gets under financial/governmentl control

The whole reason why governments haven't accepted cryptocurrency yet is because of the anonymity that they are based on, it is true that cryptocurrencies protect your privacy and keeps your identity safe, but imagine people using this for the wrong purposes, like money laundering, you could have billions and billions of dollars of drug money, gun trafficking and all sorts of illegal acts's money being put into cryptocurrency and moved around like it was nothing, and this is one of the biggest issues that governments have with privacy coins, and that is why they are thinking of banning them.

It'll take some times before we have cross-chain decentralized exchanges, now we only have on-chain decentralized exchanges, it seems that nex is working on cross-chain dex.

They have a good reason to do so especially considering the cyber crimes lurking behind the dark web. However, they should be aware that the essence of cryotocurrency is to ensure privacy. If there's a way they can manage their way around these two scenarios, I think this will be best for them.

As I know, many countries are joining force to build a database of blacklisted cryptocurrency addresses, all exchanges will not allow those addresses to deposit in the future. But it's impossible to backlist privacy coin addresses.

Even if governments ban privacy coins that will only make it a bit more complicated purchasing and selling them for fiat, because you would need to convert it into another crypto first. Also, it is nearly impossible to ban decentralized exchanges without destroying crypto in general.

Everything is possible, that they will not prohibit, but regulate. My opinion is that they will not be able to do it, but still if they start taking measures, it will affect the market as a whole, now it is just the moment of waiting

As long as you got access to 1 crypto currency, It doesnt matter whether they ban them or not.  They can't say yes to some crypto and no to others. Even if they decide to ban them all together, crypto can still survive. On a much smaller scale than what it is now of course.

If the goverment banned monero today, would all the exchanges drop monero right away? Would you stop buying immediately?

This is ridiculous,how would they ban these privacy coins and not other cryptocurrencies? doesnt make sense at all if they want these privacy coins be banned why not all the cryptocurrencies? anonimity is the main reason why most of the people are using cryptocurrencies why would they take that away from us? we not need the government for this!

I don't know if the government can do that if they have the power to ban the privacy of crypto currencies, they should only limit or give their rules and regulation so that they don't abuse it.

Yes, and I believe there are at least a couple that will use atomic swaps.  When you take the tiny percentage of the people trying to use for nefarious purposes, an outright ban is equivalent to using a nuke to kill a small group of rodents.

I think there is a good chance something like this can happen, all they need to do is tell regulated big exchanges to not allow anonymous coins no more.

Don't quote me on this, but I suspect the constitutional privacy thing is more geared toward your personal effects which seems likely it wouldn't apply to decentralized ledgers not under your control

I hope not because if that happens all of the cryptocurrencies might come to its very end,its a clearly regulations that they are trying to do if the community will allow this we are going back to where we started,another centralization from the governent so it is better to stick with what we have now,hope that these countries will allow cryptocurrencies.

Hm. It was so in start of crypto. As we can see almost all of Exchanges and ICOs want a KYC procedure now. That mean no more anonymity.

It is a facepalm to our community because the government will surely going to ban these privacy coins because most of the illegal things are being bough uing these coins,if we allow this to happen we are just going to kiss the government's asses so we shouldnt be allowing it to happen privacy coins shoud be private and cryptocurrencies shouldnt be regulated!

It is not safe to keep your coins on stock exchanges. About the ban. For a short period the crypto industry has grown tenfold. They can not forbid, they are only trying to limit further growth.

These privacy coins are the reason why i have joined cryptocurrencies because i believed tht privacy is needed when we are transacting online,i do believed that these coins shouldnt be restricted or banned because it is the arms and legs of cryptocurrencies without these people wont have any freedom to transact anonymously!

There are many articles talking about banning privacy cryptocurrencies. I think it will not happen, is going to be next to impossible and cuts the nation off from the benefits of decentralization. The better option for government is to embrace cryptocurrencies. The mass adoption will come soon.

That sounds impossible since crypto currency is all about decentralization. We can't blame the government why they are keeping their eyes with privacy coins since it was being used by syndicates and big time personality to hide their wealth. Banning them will be difficult. Most likely, on all stock exchanges that would submit to regulation, they will be banned. And there will be a problem with cashing such currencies

Cryptocurrencies are decentralized currency what the heck ? why would they banned or restrict these privacy coins are they insane? we are a decentralized community which they arent involved with,if theses restrictions will happen surely next move would be banning all the cryptocurrencies all over the world which might be the reason why our market is going to collapse.

Good question. Right now it still hasn't attracted that much attention from the government because they are busy attacking bitcoin but I'm sure that it is already in their radar. But I'm sure that when privacy coins grow exponentially in the next 5 years, I'm sure that the government will target it because we all know what privacy coins is, to hide everything from the prying eyes of everyone including governments.

So I wouldn't be surprise will go after Monero or Zcash or any other privacy coins in the future. I don't know what steps they gonna take, but I'm sure it's more harsher than bitcoin, probably a ban, but I don't know if they can go as further as prohibiting exchanges. Its a free market, they might as well close those exchanges instead of prohibition, and it will be difficult for them to make them comply specially DEX.

They shouldnt be doing this because cryptocurrencies are created to have a total anonymity its the freedom of cryptocurrencies and we shouldnt be allowing these people or government to take that away because that is the main reason why bitcoin is created to remove the centralization and to have transact anonymously.

I think that we all know that cryptos are something very useful, but they are not just an investment, most of those privacy coins are very useful after all.

I dont think they will succeed in killing privacy coin.Privacy coins are designed in the first instance to remove transactions from the prying eyes of government.And they decide to ban exchanges from listing them,it will only spur more interest in the coins,moreover,Government cannot control all exchanges across different countries.And even if they do,their are a lot of decentralized exchanges where people can easily convert privacy coins to other coin.It will be a futile effort and a sinister one at that.The surge in price in privacy coins is just an indication that a lot of interest lies there since bitcoins are now pseudo anonymous

They government are trying their efforts to implement the rules and regulations in cryptocurrencies because in the eyes of the government privacy coin like monero and decentralized coins like bitcoin could be used in illegal activities like money laundering, buying drugs and illegal firearms or could finance terrorists so, the government ordered the exchanges to implement identity verifications in order to make a withdrawals.

depends on the government you are talking, if first and foremost that country is not crypto-friendly even if it is a privacy type or not they can simply impose ban trading of those coins, privacy coins has a lot of potential because of its demand so don't get scared investing on those, you don't earn if you don't take the risk.

Even if they ban, you can earn your profits, convert to blockchain explorable coins and convert to FIAT.

They would ban this because they can't figure out who owns them and whats the blockchain log. So they won't be able to track you as well.

IMHO Privacy coins have a huge advantage over others.

I think if governments would like to bun crypto they already done it. Now they want to get income from taxes on it.

I think if the goverment ban any cryptocurrency they will pick certain ones like Monero that are well known and used widely. As an effect users would move to another privacy coin that might eventually be banned and then the story repeats itself again. You can see this happening in the war against designer drugs. It would be too difficult to ban a certain category in a market that is understood by very few people.

I think it's impossible for everyone to BAN privacy crypto because they are decentralizated.... they can only eventually not allowing exchanges to do pairs with FIAT money but this is not a problem...

I believe that these coins have less prospects, that they are recognized by the states, since they believe that such coins are more used in illegal and criminal areas and money laundering. Even some exchanges brought such coins from circulation.

I do not think that the government will be able to influence all exchanges. Even if it succeeds, people will be able to trade with another directly, without envoys. Given this possibility, most likely there will not even be any such attempts.

The government cannot ban cryptocurrencies. They can enact statutes to ban exchanges. But to ban cryptocurrencies, laws and regulations are ineffective, cryptocurrencies are a worldwide thing.

I think the article you read is only a game from the media that only pursues the rating just to increase the number of readers, because the news about crypto has started a lot of interest, and also if the government forbids crypto users to own, I think that the government has no rights and no rules the basics.

Regulations and being stricter can avoid doing illegal things, people should be aware and they have consequences in what they'll do there's no need to ban it when many gets benefit from it.

Definitely if they even will want it, they will just be not capable of doing this. They cannot control some privacy coins in lack of transparency, yet they might ban just whole cryptocurrency. 

banning all cryptos will never happen. for example bitcoin, it is not possible to ban it. however, there are some countries fostering cryptos. as an example: switzerland intends to become a world leading country for cryptos and icos.

I've heard a lot of this kind of topic. But personally, I do not think this will happen. For many reasons and convictions. We would like to have long ceased the activity of the crypto currency.

Any government has right to ban any organisation like that crypto currency had baneed. but I think it would be unbanned crypto currency in future. whenever lot of countries had centarlized & lot of  the country  in the line of do this.

They are not able to do it. All interested participants of the cryptomarket will find the way to be there as well it countries will just lose money in the empty doing.

The main reason why those PRIVACY cryptocurrencies are made is in order to offer anonymity for the people using it. There are decentralized exchanges that can list those tokens, and of course, the government cannot control those exchanges, hence the reason why it is decentralized. The government does not have the capability to regulate those coins because they cannot identify the people who uses it.

How does banning crypto actually work? Honestly wondering how would it be enforced.

I really wish it could be possible to introduce  certain regulations to crypto it would certainly bring some sanity to this space. More important is in the area of ICO's where more than 80% of them are outright scam or shitty. It would really take a long while to achieve such. Being decentralized makes it more difficult

Who they can do this?? It's blockchain, the maximum that they can do is to ban access to them. But you can easily open vpn service and get access to every cryptocurrency. Their ban is only formal.

This regulation on legality depends on each government in each country. But basically cryptocurrency is decentralized, especially for cryptocurrency privacy, the transactions are un-linkable and untraceable so the identity of the sender and recipient is hidden. So it seems that the government can set limits, it can't be completely banned.

they can not ban all privacy tokens. what they can do is let exchanges sites follow their rules like requiring KYC. in my country they don't ban crypto but they regulate exchange sites.

It could be a tricky and difficult thing to do since these privacy coins and projects live on anonymity. Tracking their developers and source codes to ban could be a herculean and almost impossible task. However, I still think privacy coins and projects contribute more harm than good, they are the ones giving the crypto innovation a bad name. The risks associated with privacy coins outweigh the good in them. For example, it could be very easy using a privacy token to carry out untraceable money laundering crimes, fund terrorism etc.. It is for this reason  major governments are against the crypto technology and privacy coins only add to the debate. Doing without privacy projects wouldn't be such a bad thing, instead it could help promote cryptocurrency and global adoption of the technology.

The government cannot ban all crypto because it is also impossible to turn off the internet. If indeed the government will ban crypto, this will not have a critical society and will not have advances in technology.

Crypto currencies industry is pretty big at the moment and I cannot imagine such a scenario that all crypto currencies will banned by governments. They will be regulated that could bring another wave of hype.

It will never happen. Cryptocurreny will be here to exist until there are traders on the on exchange. The government doesn't have that much authority on banning privacy coins especially if the coin provide a lot of advantages or usage. The only time that the government can intervene is when crypto is not following the law or affecting the money circulation.

In any case, the world is already brewing up a situation where cryptocurrency should not be recognized as securities and assets. Cryptocurrency must maintain such status so as not to attract the attention of regulatory authorities. In my opinion. I do not think that all Governments banned cryptocurrency. Not all people have the same objectives when it comes to cryptocurrency if their is a country who banned it just let it be because we can not force someone to like cryptocurrency if they do not want. Regulating the cryptocurrency inside their country is their right to do it eventhough it is decentralized.

I think they may try but they will not have much success because it is impossible to enforce short of shutting down the entire internet. People will find a workaround for any attempt to ban. The power of Governments is limited once it tries to go beyond business entities in its own jurisdiction and enforce its laws overseas. Yes might be, if the cryptocurrency is somehow a threat to the economy of a country then they have the reason to buy the access and use of it across their country. I guess cryptocurrency might have no negative implication but the government doesn't like it.

Yes, we do not need to worry about any ban on any type of cryptocurrency. I believe no government will be having a separate stand only for privacy concerned cryptocurrencies. Most probably they will be having only once stand which is applicable for all types of cryptocurrency because any crypto currency could be having anonymous feature with few steps or with setup like bitcoin can be anonymous if you go for mixing services.

Please do not spread wrong information about the purpose and why we are having crypto currencies. Government will Ban cryptocurrency because transactions via cryptocurrency are very difficult to trace out and it can be easily used for illegal trade (such as drugs, arms etc.) and payments. So you can buy tokens and follow up the situation, in case if the government start to prohibit, you will be able to sell tokens quickly with minimal losses.

I do not think that governments will take this step, and even if they want to ban such coins, it will only cause a higher demand for these coins, so I think that in this matter there is nothing to worry about.

When we would reach the mass adoption, they would not have any chance to leave them, because they will need to get taxes from crypto currencies. Governments will accept cryptos, but will eliminate private currencies for sure.

From what i think i suppose even if the government do that they will not be able to fully stop the trading of certain coins in exchange at the most centralize exchange might get affected but in crypto there is still decentralized exchanges.

IMO, I don’t think it is possible for the governments to ban all privacy coins. It is really difficult to ban all of them. Privacy coins have good potential and I have invested in a couple of privacy coins.

I can’t say or utter that this is generally possible, simply because I don’t see any possibility in this. Today you can officially block something, but to do it in such a rude way. Not. I think that they will not succeed.

I don't think governments will do that, what they really want is taxes from crypto traders and investors. They don't want to lose such huge taxes from crypto market. The information I read from several sources, not all governments prohibit cryptocurrency. There are even some governments that have allowed cryptocurrency activities. Buying and holding privacy coins for the long term is a good decision at the moment, considering the market is starting to have a positive movement.

1. The governments can't ban these currencies as they are decentralized. It is not possible to ban them.
2. Some of the exchanges are completely anonymous, and it is impossible to implement the restrictions. On top of that, even if the exchanges are banned, there will be peer-to-peer trading and the government can do hardly anything about it.

I don't think government vwill ban cryptocurrencies completely. Even though it will be, not for long term. The truth is that everyone wants it to have faster development  and also increase the revenue.
There are few valid reasons why government doesn't like cryptocurrencies.
Since there are no regulations set up and thus no governance on cryptocurrencies trading, it is very difficult for government to keep track of investments from the country.
Every government wants some amount as per taxes applicable from the trading transactions which can increase overall revenue.
Due to not having regulations, government can not set up tax system on such transactions.
And the most important thing is due to not having any governance on trading of cryptocurrencies, there are mostly chances of money laundering, which is not in favor of any of the governments.

Here i think no, as i read some news last year ago they will accept crypto and who make a profit from will need to pay some tax, but the law is still not made, and may take some years until they will do this law and trying to get extra money to budget from people who make profit on crypto.

I think not, in any case, there is a limited ways where people can convert their crypto into fiats. No will not happened. Privacy coin is same like other coins, is just that they are more conservative than native blockchain since the transaction held in their network is secured by being anonymous. How does it help the community? Possible tracking of source or someone investigating youre account cannot be revealed. Most hackers are watching transactions and watching those account to spot a prey. In privacy coin this is impossible. So I guess its impossible to remove privacy coin in the system.

Any government is trying to control everything and withdraw its profits from everything. Of course, the government is against such decentralized assets as a cryptocurrency. But it is good that at the moment technologies are developing in such a way that a cryptocurrency can exist and develop without much fear of the government.

Not all the countries are in the same thinking. As you can see, many are already adopting the crypto currencies compare to the countries that are banning it. Therefore, my conclusion for this scenario is that there is a 0.1% out of 100% that all the governments will ban the crypto currencies. Instead 80 out 100 will adapt the crypto in the future.

I think they can try, but they will fail. I guess nothing is going to happen unlike OP. Even if it will, I don’t see it happening anytime soon. I believe the government are not going to ban cryptocurrency, but there might be an extent it will reach and they might decide to stop it. So if you fear that the government may interfere on you investment in cryptocurrency, then do it with VPN in your connection so that it cannot be easily traced. Well, they can prohibit their trading on official crypto exchanges, but that does not mean that they will not be used anymore. In addition, they will become a payment method for any kind of shady/illegal business. Any contact with licensed exchange is connected with some kind of KYC: either you give those information while registering or they can still track you down by your IP. It means exchanges gives state authorities power to track cash flow (or at least a part of it), people or companies involved in it and I doubt that they will take down this feature  ;).

Most likely, the governments of some countries will take steps to ensure that people connected with crypto report on their assets and explain how and from where they are in their stock exchange accounts.  The whole essence and interest of cryptocurrency is decentralization, if there is centralization and access to personal assets is open, the whole essence of moving coins around the world without tax credits is lost.

They are using centralized way like forced exchange site to apply KYC but the privacy coin will always exist and there is no way for them to prevent someone to create a personal transaction.

But seems like this way the government will find a difficult way to fight this thing. Let say for some people who has known that bitcoin is not has a high anonymity so as they can track every transaction that has made by its citizens. But there is a way to avoid it by the users, someone can still anonymity and can hide all their asset from the government such as mixing service and store their money to the assets which has a high anonymity such as monero or doge. What do you mean by privacy cryptocurrencies? If you mean by simply crypto then they can do that. There were certain countries like for example India banned bitcoin. If they ban the use of bitcoin on their country, it is prohibited and it means that using other crypto is included.

Banning of cryptocurrency depends on the government. If they wanted to ban it, they will. But there would be legal process to do that. If there could be any opposition that will opposite the idea of banning it,  could help preventing banning of crypto in your country.

We are talking about private cryptocurrencies and not for all. Sometimes it is ridiculous to listen such statements, the market turnover is too small to arouse suspicion among governments.

I think that such a danger exists. Certain states may well prohibit the circulation of coins with a high degree of anonymity and Japan is an example of such an attitude towards anonymous cryptocurrencies. It is alarming precisely because. that Japan as a whole has a very friendly cryptocurrency policy. Therefore, it is possible that many other states will follow the example of Japan. However, I think the community will come up with an optimal way out of this situation for using anonymous cryptocurrencies. It may be decentralized exchanges that will be located in offshore zones.

it's depend on which country are you and the government on your country, it's different on every country. in my country here, government is not ban the cryptocurrency here, i think they are even  don't know what is cryptocurrency so it's still fine here in my country. cryptocurrency is not banned here.

The government may issue strict bans on Cryptocurrency, but they cannot influence it. This is a decentralized market with an anonymous background, so there are no investors controlled by governments. Therefore, the ban on Crypto does not affect, and you do not need to worry because you can still implement your long-term investment plans.

Untrackable and untrackable. If you decide to buy something with crypto and have it delivered to your door and maybe you even have to sign off on some deliverynote. Then it can be traced/linked to you with your name at your houseaddress.

Since 2016 I've been hearing about ban on privacy coins which till date it doesn't happen,same as some are spreading news that bitcoin will die but keeps getting better, I think it's never going to happen and we will keep getting more better privacy coins

Yeah sure, but if you want to purchase big ticket items like a house, a car or a tv, you need to get it registered in your own name for ownership rights. Then how private is it?

They need to be able to tax the flow of income and money to be able to pay for police, army, hospitals and so on. Therefor they will never accept a full freerange for cryptocurrencies, unless it's their own fully controlled cryptocurrency.

when goverments wanna fight again crime on crypto it will kill cryptocurrencies privacy it self
sad but true , there is no privacy on cryptocurrency in future if this keep happening

Government can ban the cryptocurrency but the transactions will happen internally as the cryptocurrency transactions are decentralized and anonymous. It works on most sophisticated technology that is Blockchain where the transactions are verified by the several blocks and no single person will interfere it. But, still the Govt. is considering about the ban not effective this.

Government agencies can ban cryptocurrencies at any time, and today cryptocurrencies in any cases are not popular. Therefore, I think that there are opportunities to use them while they are not prohibited.
