Title: Promotional messages in PM
Post by: yakovs on March 27, 2018, 06:10:33 AM
I logged in to my account after few days and found a pm. It is a promotional email without me asking any information for it. Here is the mail:

Hi yakovs

Welcome to Bitcointalk.org, the original forum where the first Bitcoin community grew just under 10 years ago. Congratulations for making it here! You’re in the right place to learn about Cryptocurrencies and the great challenges that come with it. I’d like to invite you to come have a look at the AURA project, https://www.auraledger.com/. Aura maximum supply is 12 000 000.

Aura is a newly formed project where GPU mining is very relevant, more than 90% of the coins remain to be mined. Here is a thread where you can learn about the project, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818598.0/. Feel free to ask your question the community will be happy to reply.

You can also join the two group chats:

Join on Discord: https://discord.gg/9eTev7j/.
Join on Telegram: https://t.me/joinchat/GtBmAQ1gTCoWr6Afu627nQ/
Hope to see you there and happy mining!

Victor

Is this allowed here ?

From the forum rules https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0

29. Sending unsolicited PMs, including but not limited to advertising and flood, is not allowed.

Use the Report To Admin at the bottom right of the PM.

Correct. The account was already banned so you don't need to report it again.

How can we check if an account is banned or not. I checked the profile: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=990580 and there is no ban mentioned there. Is it visible to staff only ?

Yeah, they're not visible to regular users. You may check the modlog (https://bitcointalk.org/modlog.php) for bans, but it only covers recent ones as far as I know. I can't find the user you mentioned anymore, so they must have been banned a few weeks back.

You can also check Vod's site http://dev.martinlawrence.ca/bpip/
It does take a while to update though.

If you checked your mail within an hour or two of it being sent, then I would report it. If you checked later than that, I would just delete it, chances are that the sender will already have been reported.

A Newbie account less than an hour old and already an expert on forum procedures. Nothing suspicious to see here.  ::)

Not that much of an expert, because he missed the activity update.
Now I must sort out a signature.

Well, it's obvious you are not Jet Cash  ;D

Edit:
Wondering why are you teasing Jet Cash? He/she is a decent person in my opinion.

Oh, I missed that thread. That explains it, another wise old cat in a Newbie's clothing.

You timed it perfectly, you'll be on 28 activity tomorrow.  ;)

Actually it's quite interesting, my activity seems to be going up as I post. I might even make some serious posts to get to 14 without spamming. I can see why newbies get stressed about the 360 second rule, but I think it's a good thing to keep in place. I was surprised that reporting posts was included in the rule though.

I think even the pm is included in this.

One think I like with current system is that these limits gets removed with increased activity. It does not require any merits or rank update for this. At least, there is some consolation for those who cannot make quality posts because of lack of knowledge or bad English.

I think even the pm is included in this.

You're right that PM limits are also based on activity not rank but it is a different calculation to the posting limits.

ActivityMax recipientsMax recipients if whitelistedMax PMs per hourMax PMs per hour if whitelistedMax PMs per dayMax PMs per day if whitelisted
02101402120
15310104015120
30510104030120
1007142080150600
25015301201203001200
500303012012012001200

You are automatically whitelisted if you buy a copper membership (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=credit;promote). You don't need to wear the copper membership, just own it. You can also be whitelisted for free by any staff member and a few non-staff, but we're going to need some reason to think that you actually deserve it. Do not ask me for free whitelisting.

Whitelisting is a not a license to spam. You will be immediately banned if you're found spamming, even if you bought a copper membership (and you will not be refunded).
