Project Hope (希望工程) is a Chinese public service project organized by the China Youth Development Foundation (CYDF) and the Communist Youth League (CYL) Central Committee. [1] Started on October 30, 1989, it aims to bring schools into poverty-stricken rural areas of China, to help children whose families are too poor to afford it to complete elementary school education. Through Project Hope, the CYDF has also sought to improve educational facilities and improve teaching quality in poorer regions.

By the end of 2004, Project Hope has
raised over 5.6 billion Renminbi in funds.
financed education of more than 3,400,000 poor rural students
built 15940 "Hope Primary Schools" (希望小学), which consists of 2.5% of all the rural primary schools.
established "Project Hope Scholarship"(希望之星奖学金), providing financial assistance to about 130,000 secondary and tertiary students.
funded over 14,000 primary schools in rural areas to build libraries
built over 150 distance learning centers to help students living in remote areas.
Some 80 percent of the Hope Project primary schools and students aided by the project are located in China's middle and western regions, which are less developed. (Liu, 2004)

Why is it that I don't really trust it?

Why is it that I don't really trust it?
Sadly, I'm going to second this.

Something about OP only having one post.

Oh, goody! Another forum game waiting to happen! I'll start.. Let's weigh the evidence intelligently, shall we? :D

OPHOPE

  • Advertises a single Bitcoin address that claims to be the only one allowed for donations to Project Hope.

  • Mentions no-where in their website about accepting Bitcoin for donations (and arguably never would, considering the laws in China governing these types of organizations and their perceived hatred for anything Bitcoin), and to the contrary, provides banking information for deposits (Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Beijing Branch, Dongsinan Subbranch, Name on Account:China Youth Development Foundation, RMB Account Number:0200001029014484859, China Merchants Bank, Beijing Branch, Beisanhuan Subbranch Name on Account:China Youth Development Foundation, USD Account Number: 110902151032605, SWIFT CODE: CMBCCNBS, JPY Account Number: 110902151065901, SWIFT CODE: BOTKJPJT, HKD Account Number: 110902151021206, SWIFT CODE: SCBLHKHH).

  • Ignores the informative official website for the organization (cydf.org.cn (http://www.cydf.org.cn)) and instead chooses a less informative (mainly in the areas of donation instruction/verification) Wikipedia article address instead.

  • Posts numerous external sources and verifiable information such as telephone number (+86-10-6403-3904), fax (+86-10-6403-3895), email address (info@cydf.org.cn), and both current (A-1 Houyuanensi Hutong, Jiaodaokou Nandajie, Beijing, 100009, China) and new location (51 Wangjing West Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing, 100102, PRC) addresses of operation.

  • Chooses one blog photo of the poster child for the Hope project, and a few other equally random blog photo sources (why only 3? Didn't your google search for "chinese children" in grayscale (http://www.google.com/search?as_q=chinese+children&hl=en&biw=1173&bih=805&tbm=isch&btnG=Google+Search&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&as_sitesearch=&safe=images&as_st=y&orq=&tbs=ic:gray) give you enough to choose from?

  • Provides adequate details, photos and articles to back up their claims of legitimacy. (The only problem is poor site design, evident by "<%CODEPAGE="65001"%> " appearing at the top of one of the pages.
