Title: adequate PCI cards for mining?
Post by: Tasty Champa on July 27, 2011, 04:29:28 PM
I'm curious if there are any cards using PCI slots that can be used for mining?

Maybe even a PCI to PCI-E cable adapter, would something like that work if it exists?

There are some HD 5450 out there on PCI. But they aren't worth it.

32-bit PCI - PCIE converters. SHould be around £15-£20

While you could do this most likely with the added cost you might as well go to the next mobo up. Also I'm not sure but I doubt it would be safe to run a gpu at full capacity through one (I may be talking out of my ass).

Its safe. Its just a little extra cost cause you still need an extender as well. Im knocking up 5 Card rigs with 1200PSU's though so i need these converters. Only ever found 1 mobo (gigabyte AMD 700 series UD3) with 4 x1's and 1 x16. I broke it :(

Thanks!

One more question, if you guys are still around, what would be better?

running a PCI to PCIe x16 convertor to extender to card.

or
running a PCIe x1 adapter to PCIe x16 then to nvidia card, with a possible extender for just daily tasks, maybe some games.

I should have 3 PCIe x1 slots but I only see 2, on a Gigabyte EP45 UD3R.

mainly I just want to use my old PCIe x16 nvidia card for mainly daily tasks and not use my 5770 like I have been.

you need extenders as well as the pci to pcie so its more expense having to convert pci's as well. x1,x4,x8 or x16 is what your after with x1 to x16. or 16 to 16 ;)
