Since the work required to bring back noob jail would be immense can we have a hero and legends only sub forum on BTC and ALTS

The entire board is flooded with spam and the good posts are just pushed to page 20 within a few moments.

Anyone could read the boards but only legends and heros can post there.

I can't even read any topic without marinecoin spam noob accounts piling in by the dozen.

I thought all the veteran posters had left but they are just drown out by noob accounts spamming the latest airdrop or ico.

Also a ton more mods are required to keep the board from being crushed by spam.

Ivory Tower (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=251.0) would be a better option since you need to be at least Member to post there.

True, anyone can post there, but it's heavily moderated and spam/useless posts should be deleted.

The main issue is nobody really knows about it.

I think with immediate effect on the bitcoin discussion and altcoin discussion  boards have a junior version for anyone sub hero rank - perhaps 1 rank even lower than that but at a bare minimum.

So with immediate effect the current alt and bitcoin discussion boards turn to hero/legends only and  alt and bltcoin junior discussion boards are for everyone else and legend and heros if they want to post there.

So actually the junior discussion versions are the sub discussion boards I guess.

I mean the alt discussion board has gone to hell. I often have to look through 4 or 5 pages to locate any thread that is not masses of noob accounts all spamming icos or asking the same questions over and over. The board resources are just devoured by 50% spam now.

I think that board is no longer moderated or if it is then the job is so vast and impossible then those mods are over whelmed.

The announcements boards are over run with bots asking obviously out of context questions or making ambiguous statements to harvest some rank although the merit stops them ranking up the bots still clogging up the board. I mean the most gullible real members then start trying to make sense of these bot posts. That section for now just needs more mods or a possible flagging system for members to flag up these bots. Flagging powers to hero and legends only I guess to stop the bots flagging real posts.



Noob jail was great for weeding out the spammers.




 

Yeah, and you can always make your topics self moderated to get rid of some of the spam in them.

What makes you think that anybody would be more likely to know about the board you are suggesting?


I think this would do more harm than you are anticipating that it would. If implemented correctly it would, at best, compartmentalize the community and separate us into sections. This would significantly damage the cross-over communication between higher ranking members and lower ranking members. This is how information is spread and they become more informed, higher ranking and nowadays merit earning.


I think this says something more about the state of altcoins than it does about the state of the forum. ICOs have become a breeding ground for pump-and-dumps, outright scams and useless ideas. That's going to have an effect on the forum until the market weeds out these useless currencies that are for the uninformed or those looking to capitalize on what they know to be a short-term opportunity.

What about the board suggests that it is not being moderated? The rules are very forgiving, and you might find that what you are annoyed by simply doesn't violate any official rules; if they do, then report them and they will disappear.


Could it be the case that you are seeing what you want to see? Merit makes it so there is absolutely no point for anybody to waste bot resources on spamming the boards with nonsense questions, unless they believe the questions or their other bot answers will receive merit; this doesn't happen and they will realize this quickly. I suggest you give it some time and see that the clog will clear.

This is very sad that senior members consider Marinecoin posts as spam without realising why the messages look how they are and why they are so many in number. All proof of promotion ICOs work this way.

Why the messages look the way they are? An AI Engine manages Marinecoin's ICO and makes text suggestion to airdrop participants. After a person makes a post it compares its suggestion with the post to measure deviation and rewards airdrop if there is not much deviation. The AI is a deep learning one and is learning over time to improve its language and grammar. Till then posts will look botted.

Why there's so many posts? A member can apply for the airdrop everyday with 1 post till supply runs out (95% of total supply i.e. 10 Bn is being distributed in this way). So all members may post once a day on bitcointalk.

It's an honest effort that everybody is putting in to earn the airdrops. There's no bots, there's no spam and there's definitely no scam. It's only plain old shilling.

Additionally, there's many Newbie accounts where these posts are coming from. The reason for this is that many of the participants' original accounts were banned for supposedly spamming BCT. Hence they are forced to create a new account to promote the project when they don't get any reply from the ban appeals mail ID.

Everyone's annoyed at ICOs and giveaways here now. They have become a bit rediculous and there are so many. There are also so many coins that have NOTHING to offer the community, NOTHING NEW, NOTHING ORIGINAL just the same token the op released a few months ago under a different name after their previous coin died and they realised that after their ICO, there was nothing else they could do to earn from the coin.


You just said there were bots though?
Are there bots or aren't there?
How do you know there aren't any other bots that post once a day loke those other ones?
Also, I think posting with bots is against a forum rule somewhere? (not sure though).


In my opinion, if you get permabanned you should leave and never return. Or don't return for about a year or two.
They're banned for a reason, mods don't wake up one day and say "I'm going to ban this user"... And if they are, they could appeal to it and someone would listen.

The problem for many is that serious discussion and ivory tower don't allow sigs. It seems that most members won't post there unless they can wear their billboards.

What about a subsection where you have to pay 0.1BTC which enables a new Gold Membership level to have the privelidge to post in?
You wouldn’t get any shit posters there because most of them are no coiners.

I'm not going to criticize mprep, as he's probably got a job that's worse than hilariousandco's, but man...I think at least 90% of users who post in Altcoin Discussion are alt accounts, and 95% of posts across the board are spammy garbage.  You read threads like this hold or sell thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2769592.0) which has gone well over 100 pages, and the vast majority of posts in it are insipid, repetitive nonsense. 

The only reason I can see why anyone would post in it is for a bounty.  And I guarantee you no one is reading anything in a thread like that.  Everyone replies to the OP and not to each other, which is exactly what a discussion forum shouldn't be about.  In addition, the English is so bad that even if you did want to read the posts it's maddening to find ones that you can actually understand.  On top of all that, I've found many posts in that section that are straight-up copy/pastes.  That's why the above member doubted whether Altcoin Discussion is being actively moderated.
