Title: Radeon 5830s in stock at Amazon
Post by: d9000 on July 29, 2011, 04:21:26 AM
At $160, not a great price considering what they were at a few months ago, but I ordered some.  They seem to have sufficient stock and were shipped to me within 2 days.

I still think they're probably the best card you can get for $160.

Eh, you can get 5850 extremes for $160 or less if you hunt around a bit, and they will do 400Mhps at stock voltage. Since the demise of the Newegg 5830 for $109 deal, 5850s have been the new sweet spot IMO.

For a dollar more you may as well pick up the 5850

The 5850 and 5870 were always THE cards to get before supply dried up.  Then everybody had to settle for 5830s.

Thanks, that makes sense, but was before my time. I've been picking up 5850s when I can for around $150, and I'll take that over a 5830 for $109. They are comparable in terms of $/Mh, but the 5850s are more efficient.

Amazon has free shipping too. I heard it can take several weeks before they ship though, which in the mining world, is an eternity. So don't buy these.  ;)

I just woke up in the middle of the night to tell you that. Carry on.

Yeah, I agree that the 5850 xtreme would be the better deal at $161, but something doesn't quite add up about the Amazon offer:

It says they will take 2-4 weeks to ship, which makes me nervous, and any Amazon or eBay sellers who have them on hand at all are selling them for $200+ (even used).

My guess is that supplies of these cards are drying up overall, and I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that 2-4 weeks  :)

If anyone has seen 5850s elsewhere for around $160 within the last day or so, I'd love to hear about it.

I ordered one from Amazon a while back, thinking "yeah right," but I just got an email yesterday saying it would ship mid august. ncix.com just had them on sale for $145, but is out of stock now. I agree that if you need a card right away, its hard to go with 5850s, but if you've already got a rig and can be a bit more patient getting more cards, then deals definitely pop up from time to time. But really, the same is true of 5830s since the supply for these is drying up too.
