Title: Old BitcoinTalk account hacked Post by: Clicseo on April 17, 2018, 01:31:35 PM Hello,
I tried entering today an old BitcoinTalk account I had (user: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=222550) and I wasn't able to login. When I checked, I see the signature is not the one I had nor the avatar. It seems it was hacked and used for signature selling. Is there any option to recover the account? Thank you in advance, Gabriel Title: Re: Old BitcoinTalk account hacked Post by: TryNinja on April 17, 2018, 01:37:07 PM Follow this instructions: Recovering hacked accounts or accounts with lost passwords (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=497545.0)
If you don't have any staked address or can't sign a message with any of them, there is (probably) nothing you can do. I supposed and can't do much, as I was always an obsessed with privacy and even used a free email generator as the account email. I could guess the email as maximum and give the old password.
Thank you again Title: Re: Old BitcoinTalk account hacked Post by: TryNinja on April 17, 2018, 02:26:01 PM You don't need to know your old email. You just need to sign a message with a Bitcoin address or PGP key associated with the account and send it to theymos or Cyrus[1].
Can you sign a message with one of those altcoin addresses (if you still own any of them)? Typically, the only acceptable method of proving ownership is by signing a message (including current date and desired new email address) using a Bitcoin address or PGP key associated with the account. A Bitcoin address or PGP key is associated with the account only if the account posted the key/address, sent it in a PM, or if it is still listed in the account's profile.
