Sorry, don't want to step on any foreign reseller's toes. This policy may change in the future, but for now, USA only.

I'm interested but I'd have to know several things first:

  • What is the interface (USB/LAN)? If USB, does the computer see it as one device or as multiple devices?
  • What are the power requirements?
  • Are any other components needed (power cable, power supply, etc.)?
  • Does cgminer or other popular software support this?

Ok guys I've fired one up and I've been unable to use the usb interface so far. The unit is recognized as a CP2102 USBtoUART bridge controller. I suspect the hardware ID(VID_10C4&PID_EA60) just needs to be added to bfgminer/cgminer. I'll take a look later tonight.

I've got my kill-a-watt hooked up and the only number I can provide so far is 99 watts idle. I'll be posting more pictures shortly after I get it up and running via network.

Also, I'm going to need to increase shipping. I may be able to fit 2 in a region C box. I could fit 2 in a large flat rate but I don't want to put them on their sides.

Disappointing!!

Its .05 less than buying 3 blades. Uses the same power (same chip so under operation should draw same power).

1 btc would be great price. At 1.75 I would rather buy 3 blades. All your eggs aren't in the same basket.

You could probably roast marshmallows out of the heat that will be rolling out of it at the power density. Which will most likely shorten
its life.

Yes, hot chips today is better than the promise of cooler/faster/more efficient ones in the future !!

Ok my math was wrong or I just anticipated the next price drop on blades !!

its .20 less than 3 blades.

Would still rather have 3 blades than that portable toaster / heat gun.

Ok, I've been mining for about 21 minutes (low clock) at 30.2 gh/s over network interface to a local stratum proxy.
230 watts at the wall. I'm going to kick it into overdrive now, I'll report results shortly.

Well that explains that. I spoke with Luke-Jr and it wouldn't have been as trivial to add support as I thought anyways.

It's not bad, I've owned an SC single and it's much quieter than one of those. It's got one fan blowing air accross 6 mini blades.

It may have been a promotional price for a limited quantity of cubes. I don't think anyone else has cubes in stock right now actually. I'm always happy to match distributor pricing in the USA. If wholesale price changes and I drop prices Monday/Tuesday, I will refund the difference for anyone who purchases today. I only have a few left.

If I buy this:  http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Builder-Series-Bronze-Certified/dp/B008RJZQSW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1384740019&sr=8-1&keywords=psu+750
do you think i can run 2  in overclock mode (it has 4 pci-e)
do you connect to computer via USB and run bfgminer with proxy?

do you think the price is going to stay the same or decrease?

That PSU would work for 2 in high clock mode but that's pushing it. I think the general rule of thumb is that you don't want to put more than 80% load on a PSU and that would have you at 650/750. As far as I know the usb interface is only for firmware updates.

I've implemented price protection for all of my sales so if I lower the price between your purchase and delivery, you will be refunded the difference.

I'd go with a 800w+ PSU. You'll need a switch and a host pc running stratum proxy. Wifi is not required.

If CrazyGuy's readings are correct (~320W at High) you're going to want at least an 800W 80+ Gold rated PSU just for the miners.  As far as the switch and computer are concerned, they should have their own power supplies already.

It's also important to remember that these do not need a computer to work, unless you want to run the stratum proxy (recommended).

The setup will look something like this:

http://omglikewow.com/images/bitcointalk/cubesetup.png

P.S. Obviously, if you have ethernet ports available on your router, you won't need a switch.

EDIT:  Added awesome MS Paint diagram.

Hi, Just wondering if your supplier has increased the price of units, I bought some from China just a few days ago pretty good rate and now they have jumped up to $720 a unit, Have you noticed a price increase with your supplier ?

Cheers

I'm a distributor for friedcat and I pay him in BTC. This means as BTC value increases, so will the USD price.

I would be interested in a few but the price is a little too steep for me right now.  Especially with the wild price jumps in BTC/$ prices recently.

I also question the price? I just spend 2 minutes googling around and found a chinese supplier who has just sold 277 units but is now out of stock and price was 2249, converted:
2,249.00 CNY   =   $369.076 USD

"CrazyGuy" I think whoever your buying off is ripping you off mate. $369 compared to $1050 is a farken huge GAP

Hi guys are there any straight forward guides on getting these up and running with a pool? I've only had experience with LTE mining from a Radeon PC setup

Also would a 750w power supply run 2 of these or is a 1000w necessary? Someone mentioned a Corsair CX750 I assume that wouldn't run 2x though?

Cheers

Check out dogie's guide for setting up a blade, it's exactly the same from that standpoint. You could run 2 on low clock with a 750 with no issues. You could also run 2 on high clock but you would be going over 85% load so I'm not sure how long the PSU would last.

I'm running two cubes with a 600w psu on each.  If i set them to high one will trip the psu off right away and the other takes a few hours but turns off as well.  I'm running them on low so I don't have to keep on top of them as much.

Questions...questions...
- Fans: Are they loud? Effective? Able to be replaced?
- Do you think it's possible to add a fan to pull air as well and hook it up to an exhaust for the hot air?

It should.  I thought the 600's I got would be fine.  The two PCI express 6pin plugs get a bit warm so it might be tripping because the gauge of wire is to small.  If I get more cubes I'll try to get a PSU that has 6pin PCIe plugs on different rails.

Fans are pretty quiet, looks like an easy replacement.  I had to reseat the boards inside the cubes because they got out of their top grooves in shipping.  The one fail is the stickers they put on the middle of the fans... those flew off 30 seconds after I started them up.

You could strap a fan to the exhaust side of the cube no issues but there is no room inside for anything.

I'm gonna be working up and testing some modified server-grade power supplies for these that should run two at full clock, daisychainable so you can link several and they all power on from one switch (or ATX supply), hopefully cost-effective.
Also looking into pushing the overclock further. Good results so far.

If anyone's interested in either thing, I should have results next week. Not to threadjack, CrazyGuy, but folks were mentioning power supplies. And yes the stickers on the fans are garbage, but easily accessible. Also I received my order from this guy in two days, pretty great stuff. Much appreciated.

No promises, but what I want to do is rebuild them so the "low" speed is 38GH and the "high" speed is around 43. Cooling is the only limitation for that to be possible, and I've already done some initial testing.

Thanks guys

@herener from the photos it looks like your using a bronze TR2 600W power supplies, I've not read good things on Thermaltake power supplies these days. Do you think that might be a reason for the cut outs your experiencing?

I'm thinking of getting a corsair Gold rated RM650 for each cube. money wise, it would be better using a single gold 850w but 1 of the cube's is split with a couple work makes and we'll be running from work so i CBF messing around with splitting electricity costs for my 2nd cube. I'd rather just run mine from home separately. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EB7UIXM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER)

Also just wondering do you need to use the paperclip trick to power on the PSUs? I assume so?

Cheers

I'd like to know of other ways if you'd like to enlighten me.

@wiredmine  It could be, the wires from the psu's gets really hot.  If you look at the plugs its just bridged from one plug to the other.  If I get another set of cubes I wont be getting these psu's again.  I will most likely get a more expensive corsair maybe the cx750m  59$ on newegg after the rebate.  Those have a seperate set of wires for each pci express 6pin plug.

Also yea I bridged the green wire plug to a ground wire.  You can see the yellow wire loop in the picture on the left one.

maybe we can collect such infos central in a info thread, instead divided over all sales threads...

for example: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=335440.0

And yes, the sticker on the fans unfortunately dissolves very quickly. best is to remove it before you start mining

The CX750 will run 2 OK.  I'm beating the crap out of a CX750 here with 2x V1 Blades overclocked, 2x overclocked Jalapenos, 2 USB hubs full of BlueFurys and Block Erupters, a network switch and a RPi.  It's only pulling 400W from the wall, and is running totally cool.

If i have 2 cubes, the setup needs to be 1000w psu + switch + wifi connected computer right?

Do you need a switch or could you use a router if you have a couple of cubes?  I will use the stratum proxy connected to Slush or the Guild

Router or switch. Local Stratum proxy is the best option. Remote servers can lead to restarts.

Mixed up a period and comma in the username and password part of the config window.  That was the cause of the error

2 can fit in a blade box:
11lbs 15.6oz
15x9.5x7.5

4 cubes
25lbs 2.8oz
16x16x7.5

PM me for return address. It will be easiest, and I would actually prefer if buyers pay shipping and let me handle it for this shipment.

Update on shipping: packages left ohio hub and will be in my area tomorrow. Mon/Tue delivery is very probable.

Not to hijack the thread.  But has anyone run this continously over clocked with any problems? Besides increasing the hardware failure rate isn't there a reason you can't? Does the default hardware able to cool it with no issues?

Any advice here ?  - I have one Cube on one 750W PSU ...

Make sure you don't hit refresh through your browser after setting clock speed. It will cycle back and forth between high and low clock.

Thanks Crazy guy for your patience with the newbie, me.  My son has been mining with 800GH.  I have some major catching up to do.  The cubes will get me started.

I have a shared order in with my son for a Cointerra 2TH rig for March delivery.  Cointerra March is already closed and they are on April batch now.  I guess I have Bitcoin fever but it seems like many people have it based on how fast hardware gets sold.  Its like a mining arms race.

I will be looking for your future group buys.

Got My cube in the mail today,

Thanks CrazyGuy, for the Fast Responses, and shipping!! Would be happy to order from you again.

My cube however does appear to "crash" when setting the clock into "high", it restarts, then it wont connect to the proxy, until i power cycle it.  My cube has firmware 9.17, is there an update or possible fix for this?

Thanks

My PSU: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ALK3KEM/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Only running 1 cube off it, should be more then enough juice.

I've found that setting the clock from some browsers does not work. I can't set the clock from mobile safari for some reason, but standard safari works fine. Which proxy are you using?

Received 6 cubes today.   :D

I haven't tested them all yet but 2 of the 4 I've testing are having issues.

1 cubes will show about 1/2 of a blade with oooxxxxooox on it.  When I restart, sometimes the whole cube shows xxxxx, other times, another blade will show xxxoooxxoxox and the original one with oooxxxxooox will show all good.  I've used the same powersupply with another cube and I've tried re-setting the PIC/E connectors but the same thing happens.   ???

1 cube will turn on but there will be no red status/activity light on.  The relays will click on, and there will be 2 green leds, but you cannot connect to it.  I've tried switching powersupplys and reseating the PIC/E connects but nothing happens.  Here is the kicker: when I opened the box, there was a small computer screw rattling around inside the cube.  Not good.   :o

Any ideas on troubleshooting?

I had a loose screw in my unit this time around. It was one of the 4 screws holding the heatsink to one of the blades. My guess is that one of those is missing in your unit right now. One thing I also noticed is that the blades slipped out of their rails during shipment from HongKong. This was leading to some pressure on the main board.

I highly suggest you all open your units upon receipt and confirm that the blades are seated properly in the upper rails so they are not causing undue pressure on the mainboard. Also, make sure none of the heatsink screws came out during shipment. When you are putting the cube back together, be careful to make sure the led status light is guided into the small hole on your case or it could bend backwards and possibly break off.

does the cube works with bfgminer like the blade?

and when will you have more in stock?

Yes, but I recommend using slush's mining proxy. I've had issues with blades and the bfgminer proxy in the past.

Not sure on the second question, still waiting on word that my last order has been shipped.

... i did not had any "blades out of the upper rails" issues with the first shipment. On the today's unit the middle blades were out of the rails. I pulled out the entire assembly, pressed back the blades into the MB connectors and slide back in to the enclosure.

Yes, it is important to pay attention on the status LED when you putting back the cover!  Thank you for that advice too ...

I look forward for the next batch ...

The slush's mining proxy is enabling the new "Long Poll" function of the Cube's Miner too.

I checked all of the cubes and 2 of the 6 are having issues.  When I took them apart, the blades had slipped outside of the grove on top of the box.  The bottom board was flexed quite a bit.  I checked all of the pins and re-set all of the blades.  When I tested again, there was no change.

1 cube gives me:

The other cube won't even let me connect.  Nor does it show the red led for activity.

CHanges in powersupply and cables did not change anything.

**EDIT**

I do hear the relays click on with each cube.

One of my cubes from Canary has this exact problem.  Boards popped out of top rails and backplane was flexed when I received it with dreaded solid rows of x's.  Hopefully there is an easy fix for this problem, as when working they are really sweet!

I was able to "fix" this problem by taking the cube apart - really easy, just 8 screws - and swapping 2 of the 6 blades with a different cube.  I'm not sure what that did, but the cube is working fine.  I also had the same issue with another cube and I just re-seated the blades in the board.  That appeared to work.  I'll post back tomorrow after the cubes have been running for a bit and update on the 'fixes'.

I had a Cube that arrived with a single X'd chip, but ran for two weeks fine. Last night it decided to start with all X until the one card with the one bad chip was removed; running on 5 cards all Os. Haven't tracked down the issue yet.
If it's starting with all X and power-cycling isn't resetting it, I'd say pull one card at a time and check status on the rest. You might be able to get it running in lower capacity until a fix/replacement is found.

Also, to the guy whose cards were showing up with sporadic chips X'd, it could be a voltage regulation issue. Check your input voltage at the connectors; you may need a stronger power supply and some of your cards are starved for power. Or it could just be bad connection of the cards to the mainboard, pull and reseat might help.

I tried other browser all did the same thing, as soon as I enable the clock to HIGH, it just basically stops getting data from the Proxy and the MHS display slowly goes to zero and then it stops hashing all together... I'm using Slush's: https://github.com/slush0/stratum-mining-proxy

When I first setup the device I had a lot of trouble getting it connect, however I no longer seem to have that problem any more.  A Power Cycle of the cube will get it connect and working right away... and its stable.  Is there a firmware update I can apply ? It seems like its just a bug in the code.

THanks

How many devices do you have hitting one proxy? I've found that there is a threshold where the proxy cannot provide enough work to all devices.

Looks Like I have to send 1 of 4 back. No Network card light, no status light but yet power ups. Looks like this cube was slammed together because the blades where not aligned with the grooves on the top inside of the case making it hard to pull out when it shouldn't. Not sure if that had anything to do with it but it sure wouldn't help. Something to look out for on any future shipments. Just an FYI. My other units are humming along.
2 are perfect and 1 w/ some x's on the chips but still hitting 30-35GH/s+.

That psu includes 2 cables, each with 2 pcie connectors. Make sure you are using a single connector from each cable. I'm not sure that 1 cable can handle the full load required by high clock.

just to throw my 2 cents, but if the PSU is any good one PCIe cable should handle the power to the cube....some video cards can consume 250-300w easily....so 1 cable should do, it work for me on 3 cubes.

Agreed, but my measurements of the cube were 324 watts at high clock setting. Some have measured it at 350. That's really pushing the limits of a single cable, unless it's thick gauge.

Yea, I had five on high through this Kill-a-watt.  1718watts/5 is about 343.6watts each.  I would use both cables to be safe.  I did run two Cubes through one PSU for a bit and the PCIe power cable got much warmer than using a dedicated cable for each plug.

https://i.imgur.com/LmsYjG7.jpg?1

I'm also using the CX750M's on all Cubes.

I did have a problem with two cubes going all x's on me, had to switch out a PSU plug to another circuit.

I had a quad 5970 GPU rig ("The Minecart" (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=100137.0)) back in the day running at about 1110 watts and plugged into a killawatt at all times. When I finally retired the machine, I realized the constant current had completely melted the plastic around the killawatt outlet. I'm always a little hesitent to go over 80% of any electrical component limits especially when running constant. Is that a 20 amp circuit you have those 5 cubes plugged into herener? Be careful out there...

Yes it is a dedicated 20 amp circuit that had the killiwatt on it.  It was beeping from time to time as it was hitting the 15amp warning on the killiwatt.  Its no longer plugged in, I just wanted to check the draw from the cubes.

I have two cubes on a 15, another one on a different 15, and five plus the switch on the 20.

I am definitely keeping an eye on things, and thanks for the warning.  :)

My cube fired right up with nary a hitch and doing 32 GH/s at low clock.  However, it only does 2.5 GH/s more (34.5 GH/s) on high clock, drawing an additional 110WAC at the wall.  Whatever happened to the advertised minimum of 38 GH/s when OC'd?  Is AsicMiner doing a BFL nowadays?

To put it in perspective, 2.5 GH/s drawing 110WAC is a whopping 44WAC/GH (at the wall) or 37.4WDC/GH (with an 85%-efficient PSU).  Is it worth it?

BTW, thanks to CrazyGuy for an excellent service and packing.

Pull it apart and make sure all your heatsinks are tight. Mine with the stock overclock topped out around 37.5GH, could have been higher if some of the cards cooled better. You can run the chip outputs through a quick script to find the average hashrate per card and see which ones are the turds.

Are you running it against bfgminer or slush's stratum proxy? I've found cubes/blades don't seem to run as well against the bfgminer implementation. Also, both proxies don't handle multiple units very well. Test out your cube on its own instance of slush's stratum proxy and see if you get different results.

Pull it apart and make sure all your heatsinks are tight. Mine with the stock overclock topped out around 37.5GH, could have been higher if some of the cards cooled better. You can run the chip outputs through a quick script to find the average hashrate per card and see which ones are the turds.

It's the first thing I did upon receiving it.  I also fixed half of the blades that were off the top notches.  Thanks.

Are you running it against bfgminer or slush's stratum proxy? I've found cubes/blades don't seem to run as well against the bfgminer implementation. Also, both proxies don't handle multiple units very well. Test out your cube on its own instance of slush's stratum proxy and see if you get different results.

Thanks.  I'll try Slush's next once I figure out how to connect through it using other pools (I am coding and CLI-challenged).  What port does slush's stratum proxy utilizes BTW?

Even if I could get it to 38 GH/s, I'm not sure if I'll be running it on high clock because that would still be around 18WAC/GH/s at the wall for the additional 6 GH/s; at least twice as much draw as the USB BEs.  However, I'm still determined to get it to work just to be able to say that my Cube lived up to the hype.  :)

mining_proxy.exe -o yourstratumpool -p poolstratumport -gp localgetworkport

The proxy defaults to 8332, same as the default config on the Cube.

You guys are right.  Slush's stratum proxy did get my Cube up to 37.9 GH/s on high clock.  Close enough.  Thanks again.

I started using the mining_proxy.exe a few days ago to use with my blades and I am very impressed.  I wanted to try it because of the "no midstate" (-nm) option.  I have been running it on my laptop and the blades efficiency are all running from 99.49% up to 99.71%.  I miss the miner stats using this proxy.  I use this laptop all day long to do my normal work and web viewing.

I have not tried running the proxy without the -nm switch to compare yet.  I have not figured out how to setup a backup pool with it yet.

Not to bash bfgminer any, as I use it for my BFL miners and my erupters, but as a proxy, my blades efficiency was 94-96%.  I could not find a compatible switch to use for the no midstate option.

I did like being able to get the miner stats using bfgminer.  It is also very easy to us another pool for backup mining.

Both have their pros and cons.  Try them both and see which works best for you.

Thanks for the tip.  For some reason, I only get up to 97% efficiency, even with Slush's proxy.  I think I could live with it tough.  BTW, what does the number labeled "Utility" right next to "Efficiency" represent?

I'm an admitted hardware geek and I like to take pictures of them.  I took some while taking apart and prepping my Cube.  I might as well share it.  I hope CrazyGuy doesn't mind:

Thanks for the pic's !!!

Next time anyone has theirs apart I would like to see a pic straight on of the card tops meshing in the slots and of the bottom board again straight on in the slots of the bottom case.

I think that is where the problems are coming from. Asic miner put the cards in too tight in the slots. So any kind of pressure to the case top or bottom is putting pressure on the heat sinks and popping the cards/heatsink screws out. They probably should just flat pack the cards and let a little assembly be done on receipt or increase height of case and use a springy plastic grid retainer with groves to hold the card tops like better workstation class pc's have. Keeps the cards in their slot, but has enough give to accommodate shifts in the motherboard and or heat expansion.

You're welcome.

Once the backplane and the blades are aligned to the notches/slots, they slide right in with hardly any effort; at least with mine anyway.  I think it's just an issue of shoddy QC.  I had to do some tightening of the plastic heat sink screws on the USB BEs too because about 80% of them were very loose.  Overall, I grade the Cube's build "A".  It's a nicely made and sturdy unit.  However, I would have to give the chips in it a "C".  Just imagine if they mounted at least 55nm chips on them.  ASICMiner has to get with the times.  But they're not gonna do it while they're still making money off the damn 130nm chips.  They're milking it.

If I understand it, they're already working on the next gen chips. Took them a while to get started on it so no delivery until at least February. At least someone's making decent mid-entry hardware that's not built-for-n00bs or $4000.

Does anyone had advice for trouble shooting a bad blade in a cube?  Or is it even possible?  The bad blade sometimes works but most of the time it will cause the entire cube to turn 'xxxx'.  I switched power supplies and did a long troubleshooting process to ID the bade blade.  I looked for any obvious damage but couldn't find any.

I've got one that did the same thing, haven't narrowed down the source yet but I'll post about it when I do.

I should have posted my troubleshooting process...

Took the cube apart.  Labeled blades 1-6.  Removed all blades and tested each blade in each port on the main board.  That took a bit.  Finally found the bad blade.  Tested the cube with the bad blade in each of the 6 ports to confirm.

Exactly - classic troubleshooting. Labeling and keeping track of what slots they were tried in will narrow it down. Don't change more than 1 variable at a time. That was the mistake I made with the hub issue. I know better but took a shortcut.

I feel that the Cube is a culmination of their research for a platform to house their next-gen chips and the current Cube offering with the BE100 chips is just a dry run.  If the anticipated chips are anything like the Bitfury 55nm chips (or better), then that would be exciting.  Just imagine a yield of at least 200+ GH/s in a very attractive tiny  5.3" x 6.0" x 5.8" package drawing similar wattage as the current Cube.  I also feel that USB connectivity (with the existing port) will be implemented then for mainstream appeal.

I couldn't agree with you more.  AM has allowed us regular small-time miners to be significant part of the network.  Still, just like with any other company or business, profit is paramount.

Haha, no way man. Mess with friedcat and you're likely to get a very quick shipment. Unfortunately, it's going to be a box filled to the brim with nunchaku laden little people.

Seriously though, I think the cat is very busy with third gen, but I hope he's got another batch heading my way soon. I'll keep trying fellas.

Good news, my shipper has received a delivery from ASICMiner and I'm told there were no breathing holes! I'll be creating a new sale thread shortly after I receive details on the shipment.
