What do you mean by 1:1?

Basically I just want to pay whatever the going rate of bitcoins is. Not looking to negotiate or anything, just want an easy 1st transaction  :)

As near as I can tell, people around here are spooked from Paypal because you (the buyer) could protest the charges and the seller would be left empty-handed.  Maybe you can find someone, though.

You most likely won't get that with Paypal. Paypal transactions are reversible, but bitcoin transactions are not. Since you do not have any reputation here in the forums, it will be hard to find someone here that trusts you. But good luck.

^ What they said. Unfortunately, there probably isn't such a thing as an easy first transaction with bitcoin. Your best bet may be to open an account with one of the exchanges, fund it (the not so easy part), and buy coins on the open market.

Makes sense to me. I has hoping that a smallish transaction might go ok but I definitely understand.  I'll find an alternative method.  I'm pretty internet savvy but also lazy lol. Thanks  :)

Or take a look at bitmarket.eu. They serve as an escrow for person to person transfers. There are some people there who trade with paypal.

Also, from what i've been told it's against the rules of Paypal to use it to buy digital currencies, so even if you're not after scamming the seller PP might rip you both off

There are people on #bitcoin-otc marketplace who will accept paypal from trusted sources.

Perhaps a first purchase using something like a MoneyPak will help you to build trust, and then PayPal could be used later.

But yes, with Bitcoin being a prohibited purchase in PayPal's user agreement, it is probably best to avoid them entirely.

I wish you all the best but when you ask to trade the-most-reversible-semicurrency for the-most-irreversable-currency you're going to get laughed it.

You could post on Craigslist and trade in person. Both of you bring your laptops (or mobile device) to a cafe that has WiFi.
