I0coin

What is I0coin?

I0coin is an open source digital currency, based on the cryptocurrency Bitcoin, which is distributed over a peer-to-peer network to offer irreversible, low-cost, anonymous and decentralized monetary transactions. Ixcoin is the first Bitcoin clone or Alternative chain, created in May 2011 just a few weeks after the distributed DNS Namecoin and right after the creation of Ixcoin which some people believed to be a scam, they actually hold quite a nice story together. Today, there exists many Bitcoin clones.

I0coins are the unit of currency of the I0coin system. Similarly to Bitcoin's BTC, a commonly used shorthand for this is “I0C” to refer to a price or amount (eg: “100 I0C”). An I0coin isn't tangible. It is just a number associated with a I0coin Address, which is a string of 33 numbers and letters which begin with the letter j such as jYVw2UyyFdeLdUmV49w2fuArce2RHVSrnp. See also an easy intro to bitcoin.

How does I0coin differ from Ixcoin?

No. Same old same old. No dev support, merged mined with BTC, most coins are already mined.

A bitcoin 0.8.5 based client is in the works.   There's another thread about this here.

This must be the most underated coin in history.

Fortunately, despite languishing since 2011 ( is the oldest alt-coin ),  I expect a massive upswing in the next few months.

Here are some bullish events:

(1) Pending release of 0.8.5 based client. So you'll get all those goodies like LevelDB, Anti-Dust, Multi-Sigs and the same robustness of Bitcoin.   This is the ONLY other merge mined coin that will have an updated client.  DVC and NMC have old code bases.

(2) Two Bitcoin pools support merged mining of IXC.  GHash.IO and Bitparking.  We will need to encourage more pools to start merge mining iXcoin.   With the new client, it will make integration with their current pool software much easier.

(3) The difficulty of iXcoin is at 1/5th that of Bitcoin!!!  That means, in terms of scarcity and security iXcoin trumps by a mile the next best SHA256 coin (i.e. PPC).

(4) IXC is trading in just a few exchanges, however we hope adoption into more exchanges.  BTC-E and McxNow adoption will be extremely bullish event.

(5) You can cloud mine iXcoin!  CEX.IO allows you to mine for iXcoin by buying GHs.  In fact, you will eventually be able to use iXcoin to mine iXcoin!

(6) iXcoin trades for UNDER 10 U.S. CENTS!!!

I am now in the process of creating the QT client and I need a logo and graphics.  Please send me contributions!

Nice work on setting up ixcoin.co. I never realized that IXcoin was one of the early sha256 alt currencies. Its easy to always think of NMC. All the other points made on this thread thus far make me want to head over to cryptsy & put my free floating mBTC's to good use.

Just so you know,  iXcoin has been upgraded to the latest version of Bitcion 0.8.6 .

It is not the only updated merged mined coin client though, is it?

Isn't it based on the updated I0Coin?

So that it has the memory-usage updates that were first deployed in I0Coin?

Yes, it is based on the updated I0Coin code base.

You can check out the source code itself on Github.
