Title: Feedback on our new search engine for Bitcointalk
Post by: OfficialAmulet on April 26, 2018, 02:34:10 AM
We've spent the last 6 months building a new search engine specific to cryptocurrency websites, and wanted to get some feedback on our alpha: https://amuletplatform.com/data/

Currently we're indexing 24M+ posts across Bitcointalk (english boards) and Reddit's biggest crypto subreddits. We're working on adding Telegram, YouTube, and Twitter.

We think we can do a better job than Google for the following reasons:
1) We index faster than Google (on average we index new posts in less than 10m).
2) We rank results based on the poster's history (e.g. if our algorithms detect users who shill or post low quality content, and rank them lower)
3) We detect coin names in the search result and show additional information about a coin (e.g. Bitcointalk announcement post, Telegram, etc.)

Give it a try and let us know what features you'd like to see. We're still fixing a lot of bugs, so the system is very stable yet.

Updated
Per popular demand, pagination to the search results has been added. We're working on the other feature requests.  8)

Hey mate, this search engine is freaking awesome. Specially liked that you can directly go to projects telegram, github, etc directly from the search results. Great work!

Thanks! If you click on a coin's name in the search results (e.g. for augur: https://amuletplatform.com/data/coin/84), you'll be able to see every historical post about augur overlayed on top of coin price.

This search engine is absolutely amazing. Please do add a few more sources, as I could see this site easily being one of the most used to research all kinds of blockchain projects and upcoming coins. It reminds me a lot of https://www.sec.gov/edgar/searchedgar/companysearch.html, which is often used to search for company filings.

A few general tips for the search engine: There might be better algorithms for which posts you choose to show to the user. Some of the posts that I see when I search up for a very common term like "bitcoin" seem pretty useless. I understand how the general site should and can be used for altcoins and ICO's, but I think that could be a great start.

Definitely keeping your ANN thread in my sight.

Nice tool but how to sort result by descending dates? I have results from different years at the top of search results.

Also the number of displayed results is quite limited.

My Opinion :
Good Search Engine.. I had try to looking for "Bounty" on your tool, but displayed results is dominated by redit result. Where is Bitcointalk result? Hehe

So far so good for this search engine. Great Project.

My Suggestion :
• Make Category or Sub-Menu. That will be easy if we search from many site.
• Add Pop Up view to small preview before leaving page.

Definitely- we need to improve the result for common keywords. The search was initially designed for altcoins, but many people will probably start by searching "Bitcoin."

We're working on pagination, so you'll be able to see all the results and go through them page by page.

The sorting by descending dates is a good idea. We'll add the feature this week!

Great suggestions! Adding a "filter by website" is a good idea and something we'll work on adding.

I like the preview idea, as well. Need to figure out the best way to build that.

Keep the suggestions coming  :)

Really nice search engine - bookmarked for future use.

My only suggestion would be to change the way replies to top level results are displayed. I searched for "Nano", and the second result was followed by about 40 replies - had to scroll past them all to get to the third result. My suggestion would be to show only 3 replies by default, but introduce a small button under each top level result that would display all replies to that result if pressed.

Good job and very useful for us all especially for the world of cryptocurrency. Hopefully everyone starts to switch to using this platform that you create and not rely on google again as a search engine.

Great job, very nice tool!

I can see much more value in your search than the google search.
The question is where to find explanation of your notations?

As I've been doing more searching just on the site, it's actually very well organized for the altcoins that don't have much traffic. It's able to spit out some of the most crucial stuff for altcoins if I search them up. Things such as the ANN threads are definitely super useful when researching coins. I guess the whole algorithm can easily be worked on in the meantime as this is an up and coming project. Also, you could potentially add more results into the results screen. If I search up for something, I only get one page worth of information. Maybe splitting that info into multiple pages or just adding more data would be a good improvement as well.

For a beginning, it is excellent...Just need to customize for user with the presenting the search result as usually in other search engine the most update news is placed at the top but in this Amulet seems to be placed at the bottom.
Other thing is : try to add other source just like medium, steemit, cryptocompare, other social media such as facebook and hopefully much wider than that to find the keyword or tags. But I don't know how the complexity of that idea to be developed as usually talk is very easy rather than act ;D. You are the master of this then will know to predict how big is the job for that....

Usual ICO, nothing about Bitcointalk on the first page. only reddit megathreads.

I am very cautious on anything crypto related and a startup, I'll definitely be trying this on a virtual machine or mini Linux PC and see how it works.

I don't think that you need to install anything in order to use this search engine. and I think people will use this tool to hunt the bounties more conveniently . lol.

Very Nice!
Also please change the title of the thread from Bitcointalk --> Bitcoin. You're referring to bitcoin and not bitcointalk. Major misunderstanding there!
I like the date feature : https://amuletplatform.com/data/search?q=gmaxwell&date=24hours [The query params only take the date in time or takes dates as well like '/' separated ?] Very cool feature to have!
Are you planning to launch your own ICO ? That is a bad idea and a turn down.

This search engine is really quite helpful for me and user friendly interface, i like the design. I gotta say it produces quicker and has more accurate results rather than bitcointalk search engine you guys did well and it directs me to the ICO, news and projects sites and info i need. Really good job.

I couldn't find anything about me that isn't older than 1 month :-\
Meanwhile a Google search results in posts I made 8 hours ago. So I'll be sticking with it for now.

Fast.
Only problem when I find something and click I don't end up the right place. Have to search on the page again to find it.

Same thing which do comes into my mind on where this search engine would be used on hunting bounties which i do say that this is indeed a good tool.Searching up things are quiet fast and informations are really been shown up there but i would like to see the dates to be in ordered starting up on the very recent news because i have observed all are shuffled down.

What do you mean ? I hope you understand the website is an actual bitcoin related search and not bitcointalk ? Try searching people related to bitcoin like Gmaxwell you'll see results with their recent mentions/discussions.If you search any random username on bitcointalk without any proper references to bitcoin,I'm sure it won't work.

Bounties are a cancer and will just pollute the global scope of bitcoin search.

Not only for bounties we can able to learn many new things about the current technology and its importance. The search engine will help to search different coin and their development strategy easily. Your search engine is very effective to search all sort of cryptocurrency related articles.

In short, for buying a minimum of 500 Amulet Tokens (XAM) we as a user will receive an exclusive unlimited use of your crypto-related search engine?

I visited your official site but can't find anything about the price (or maybe I got skipped over). What's the target price per token?
If it doesn't cost much and the team promises to develop it more, I think it's a fair deal.

Nice service! I am using this to learn about coming bounties.
Just put 'bounty' in the search and choose 'Past 24 hours' from pull-down menu.
