Hi all,

So here I am, having lurked on and off on these forums for a while now - I've finally stepped up and registered. I can't completely claim to be here on 100% selfless terms as I'm hoping to use your insightful and thoughtful collective brains to collect some data for my postgraduate dissertation research, but now that I'm here I'm fully committed.

I've been a student for the last 5 years now, I bought one bitcoin back in 2012 and it cost me about 17GBP. I really wanted to just buy a casascious coin of 25BTC at the time but whilst struggling to afford pasta to live on for the week, £17 was a substantial chunk of change! I wish I'd been a bit richer at the time because I'd have a gold coin worth >$10,000 by now but hey such is life.

I'm now living in Bangkok as the final part of my studies (just through the structure of the programme), spending my days doing nothing but writing the dissertation I need to hand in just before Christmas...

Anyway, I hope to make a more meaningful post actually regarding my research shortly when I hopefully have a bit more freedom to post, until then, keep spreading the coinage!

Are you going to hold on to the one bitcoin or are you selling it now? Just wondering. :P

I actually already spent more than half of it over the last 18 months, mainly on silly little things over on coingig and other various sites (I bought 10 microfiber cloths for what would have probably been worth over $40 by now ha) just because I thought it was a great way to carry out transactions - I literally loved just pasting an address and firing off money. I also liked supporting the people who at the time were brave enough to accept them with the knowledge that price swings could wipe the value of the transaction out in a matter of days.

I'd love to have kept buying up more coins over the year but feeding myself tended to take the priority! And of course, as I'm sure is the case with a lot of people, my satoshi spending has significantly dropped since early October, however!

Indeed, and thank you! It's been extremely painful wanting desperately to invest more money into it over the past few months but being able to do nothing but helplessly watch BTC shoot for the moon! Oh well, I still couldn't be happier for the successes of the currency so far, I'd love to see it continue gaining support and adoption!

Well at least you still have some left. It's not all regret is it? I would really only want to use bitcoins as an actual currency(buying stuff when I feel like it, not when the prices hop up so I can get it for less) if it would stabilize. I can buy $100 worth of stuff with what I paid $43 PayPal for. In a few days, that could $150 for all I know. On a larger scale I would be losing and gaining hundreds.

Oh no, not at all, hindsight is 20-20 as they say, but life is full of regrets, it just doesn't pay to look back ;)

I suppose, can't help but feel regretful. I'm sure there are people out there angry with themselves for throwing away what could of been hundreds of thousands to millions because they thought bitcoins were going to stay useless.
