Title: Bitcoin discussion over Ventrilo?
Post by: NothinG on August 05, 2011, 07:59:35 PM
I was wondering how many people would be interested in talking about Bitcoin over voice?
I can get us a server with up to 400 slots (pretty much going to keep it under 50 for now).

We can talk about anything from your site or other's site (including but not limited to forums/games/exchange...etc).
I can add sub-sections if people would be interested in discussing specific aspects of Bitcoins.

All-in-all, who'd be interested?

Good idea.  I might be interested.  Of course it will probably turn into a bunch of 13-year olds screaming at each other.

I didn't think of that.
I'm more than happy enough to make private channels and kick out anyone who decides to get out-of-hand.
There will be plenty of open channels for them to play in.

Seems they don't like my chrome.
I'm sticking with Ventrilo. :P

It says Chrome below version 3 doesn't work... I believe it's up to Version  11. Maybe time to update?

It's currently setup for 10 users.
I'm not sure how popular this will be, but I'll add more as it get's full.

why not keep with the open source thing and use mumble, its arguably better than all of them.

I kind of like Ventrilo better.

I kind of like Ventrilo better.

why, all they do is hold their licensing so only big companies can ever even administer servers for real.

some advantages of mumble are better latency, voice quality, plugins and far superior security.

some disadvantages of mumble are
confusing the first time you use it
looks ugly
sparse updates

pick what you want, i wont be able to change your mind anyway.

Don't get me wrong, I have personal disregard's to Ventrilo.
I used to be huge in TS2 before they decided to be harder to license (TS3) than Ventrilo.

As far as other solutions to voice (Mohawk, Mubmle [Murmur]), I've had to support them for others.
I just find that Ventrilo gives a nice, solid solution to VoIP.

its "solid" because only big companies are allowed to have any licensing. its the same with osx, they only allow osx on apple branded hardware for the most part.

I'd vote for Mumble aswell, superior quality/bandwith/latency in my experience. And ofcourse open source and encrypted.

Am I suppose to setup a poll or something.  ::)

[Edit]:
Okay...so I've got a Mumble (murmur) server setup, but will wait till tomorrow to release the IP/PORT.
Anyone know of a server monitor (see how many users are in the server, like my Ventrilo banners)?
