Hello all,

Currently running 3 pieces of mining hardware, and I am curious if my temps are within spec, or if I need extra cooling. They are currently set up amongst the telecom & network equipment at work, where I know that airflow and heat from other equipment makes things non-optimal. I am somewhat restricted by needing to keep them out of sight and out of notice.

- BFL stock Jalapeno, averaging about 5.3 GH/s, running at 48-50c

- BFL firmware-upgraded Jalapeno, averaging about 8 GH/s, running at  about 54c

- BFL Little Single. This unit initially sounded like a friggin Tornado. I stripped the case off, flipped the heatsink fan to blow down instead of up, and replaced the chassis fan with a Cooler Master 120mm Silent fan.  This resulted in a massive reduction in noise and a 10c reduction in temperature. Currently averaging  31-32 GH/s at 71c

I made the same mods to my little single as you except I didn't buy a new fan.  Getting 65c @ 29 GH/s

Optimal operating temperature for BFL Miner is 2 more weeks.

Your quick and clever wit is noted, and we all stand amazed.

I reflashed a Jalepeno. Before flashing, it ran around 43c, hashing ~5.2GHz. After flashing AND removing the outer case and applying new thermal paste, it rarely goes over 37c, hashing ~8.3Ghz.

Environment (before and after flashing) = 20c, 45% RH, with a 6" fan blowing towards the Jalepeno.

So I took the cases off my two Jalapenos this morning, and flipped the fans to blow down instead of up.

The stock one dropped to 46C, down 2-3C. The upgraded one also dropped to 46C, which is a reduction of about 8C.  Hash rate doesn't really seem any different, but it seems logical that lower temps increase the odds of a better lifespan.

I'm still concerned about my Little Single. Fluctuating between 72-74C. I bought one of those dinky little $3 USB fans off Ebay and aimed it at it, but it made no noticeable difference (and made too much noise).

You don't have any very cold room where you could run your Little Single? Even temperatures around 0 celsius are OK if the miner is running (I doubt there is anything like "too much cold")

The trick is that I'm running it at work where the electricity bill isn't my problem. But in doing that, I have to have it somewhere where the fan noise won't be noticed, and that means in amongst all of our network racks and such. 

So I'm having to deal with the heat being generated by all that other equipment as well.

Oh, I see.. in that case I guess that fans are your only options. or hope that it can handle such temperatures. In the other hand, GPU miners operate at ~70C too and theyre pretty ok and can work for a long time

Lol? Big companies wont even notice such change in bills...

Its not like 99.9% of the people on this forum wouldn't jump at the chance to run their hardware without having to factor electricity into their ROI calculations.

If you ask permission it's ok. I'm in charge of all IT at work, and could easily get away with the same, but would never consider it.
