Title: (SOLVED) GPU Recommendations for miner. Post by: Mogumodz on November 27, 2013, 04:28:29 PM Hello world;
A friend of mine wants to set up a few Litecoin rigs. I'm in the UK as is my friend. Would a few guru's give me a few tips on what is a good GPU now, I gave up GPU mining with a 6950 in March myself. I see people saying the 7950's have better KH/s - W ratio, is that still the case as I haven't really looked at the new AMD range of cards for mining. Thanks. In the new range i belive it`s the 280X(basicly a cheaper 7970) is the best. Now days it`s quite ok to mine scrypt with gpu`s btw. ;)

Or would you just buy the reference ones that are out now? Title: Re: GPU Recommendations for miner. Post by: hieroglyph on December 03, 2013, 12:15:51 AM I'll be following this thread in hopes to get a couple quality rigs for myself also. Interested to see what others suggest. I regret not contacting a friend that wanted to sell me his rigs but funds were right then... :(

Title: Re: GPU Recommendations for miner. Post by: Mogumodz on December 03, 2013, 03:36:42 AM Thanks for the responses, I kept and eye here before I ordered but it did seem to go cold and ordered with what info I gathered.
I ended up ordering 1 x Sapphire 7950 for my friend just to get the order in on Saturday, it was what a few people had suggested if I could find any. The build list for any one interested was; Asrock AM3+ 970 Extreme 4 Sapphire 7950 3GB - 11196 19 20G Seasonic 850W M12II PSU 4 GB 1333 Generic Ram AMD Sempron 145 Single Core CPU I only got the one card as I couldn't find too much info on the latest 280X / 290X range, but he can add to it later with the PSU size. After a few more days of asking about, I think I will be getting 2 x 280X cards and see how it goes and maybe add more over time if needed for a small GPU rig, until scrypt FPGAs come out and then I have two nifty gaming pc upgrades. I'm tempted to replace the 970 Extreme 4 with a Gigabyte 990-FXA-UD3 board for my own rig build on a friends recommendation, others seem to be happy with it the Extreme 4 so we'll see at the time as it's just for mining. The egg is dry.. i ordered 6 on the 29th from this other retailer but they havent taken the funds from my account yet so im not sure whats up.. got my fingers crossed. I went with Vapor-x's. Title: Re: (SOLVED) GPU Recommendations for miner. Post by: Mogumodz on December 14, 2013, 07:32:11 AM Little update, I built 2 rigs (One for a friend and I). As I couldn't get any PCI-e risers I've stuck with 2 cards per board atm, once the PCI-e risers arrive I will raise the front support bar and separate the cards and be able to put more GPU's on each rig.
Parts lists for the 2 boards are; Left Board Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P Socket AM3+ Sapphire TOXIC R9 280X x 2 Powercool X-Viper 950W Modular 80+ Bronze 4 GB 1333 Generic Ram AMD Sempron 145 Single Core CPU USB Stick for BAMT Right Board Asrock AM3+ 970 Extreme 4 Sapphire TOXIC R9 280X x 2 Seasonic 850W M12II PSU 4 GB 1333 Generic Ram AMD Sempron 145 Single Core CPU USB Stick for BAMT Each rig gets about 1400kh/s but I haven't fiddled much with settings/config yet. http://puu.sh/5LAHb.jpg |
