Title: Bitstamp $1000 is what counts
Post by: RationalSpeculator on November 27, 2013, 10:36:02 PM
You guys partied too soon. Only when Bitstamp hits $1000 is it time to celebrate.

The proof was again given today when gox went to $1070 and bitstamp said, nope, too many coins!, after which gox retraced back below $1000.

The bitcoin millionaires want some actual fiat for their coins, no gox promises!

My thoughts precisely

The Bitstamp wall offers a good opportunity to buy (back in) what will soon be cheap coins with minimal slippage

So awaiting new money I guess

There was a flash sell-off, followed by a small (in Bitcoin terms) drop in price, and now we are right back where we where on Bitstamp, consolidating/trending along at all time high levels.

Very very bullish.

I would certainly not be short Bitcoins over the next week or so, which is another way of saying I believe that 1000 USD will be surpassed very soon.

*BitcoinAverage. I don't care what the price of 1 exchange is. I will celebrate once the average is over 1000 dollar (leaving Mt.Gox out of the calculation of course, because, you know, it's shit).

What will you be celebrating exactly? That you can say 'I told you' to your  friends? That you can retire? That the market didn't crash after all? That bitcoin will be widely accepted? Honest question

I don't even consider prices on Bitstamp to "count".

If you are using Bitstamp you are already behind.

It's a Bitcoin milestone.

Everyone simply loves round numbers. Don't you?

For many the $1000,- didn't bring the shock they thought it will. It does bring a lot of media coverage, it was on national news here in the netherlands.

this forum is hard work sometimes, isnīt it? it eats away substantial chunks of your time and to some it even seems to become a full blown way of live of its own.
it was in one of those innumerable nights with hours spent in this unique forum, arguing/considering/exploring/sharing/fighting with you about this abstract gamechanger called bitcoin, when it dawned on me that you guys are just great. this forum is special. i thought i need to meet you guys - in real life - not behind a screen. the first idea was a party. no agenda, just meet & celebrate. what could be a good reason to announce such a community event? bitcoin was at 140, not moving forever. yeah, if it should ever reach $1000 we should celebrate this milestone! it seemed a reasonable choice.

the point is to move away from the keyboards and add a little reality to this magic joyride we are experiencing. letīs meet in reality, face to face. bitcoin is abstract as hell, it will help us believing this madness when we see tons of other folks with the same vision/experience/ in real life.

iīd say those are good reasons to celebrate.

hope to see you all at the party!
