Title: BITADDRESS.ORG UPADATED?! IS IT SAFE TO USE?
Post by: jimmypagey on November 28, 2013, 03:14:52 AM
Just downloaded the 2.6.2 version a week ago to a usb for OFFLINE use of it, then I was just about to print off some paper wallets, then I go to the GITHUB site to double check and notice they just released a new verson 2.6.3  ...it says they updated some things but its brand new.. Is it unsafe to use the older version from 2 weeks ago if they just put a new version out OR IS THE NEW VERSION possibly FULL OF BUGS AND GLITCHES where it is unsafe to send your bitcoins to due to a error in the new version that you would never notice until 10 yrs from now when you wanna cash your bitcoins in  ??? Can someone tell me if the new updated version is safe (THE ONE ON GITHUB THAT YOU DOWNLOAD) I haven't seen any PGP signs for it though?? could I still be safe with the old version? OR is that buggy?

You'd probably be safe even with a much older version.

You can also check to see if your generated private keys will import into the client properly. Go generate like 10, test 9, and use the 1 left. If you test offline, you can safely use all of them.

This. I thought I would never have to say that, but we have reached the day that it often sometimes makes sense to use OLDER versions of software for security reasons. At least, until the newer versions have received tons of testing and peer reviews.
