Works fine for me so far on 8/8.1 64bit, just a pita to build from source.

bitcoin-qt, cgminer & bfgminer

I primarily use Linux though.

I've been told win 8 isn't gonna be good but I'm not sure what I will use since win 7 is gonna be binned real soon.  I just want something that works well.

i've never heard microsoft or windows termed as "trendy." i've heard them as trying to be cool and trendy, but failing miserably at it.

Linux, if you don't need Windows apps.
Windows 8 if you do.

Maybe he is referring to the metro style ui. Which aside of the os per se is the most beautiful ui i have seen so far.

Honestly I hate Windows 8, seems like a mobile OS squashed into desktop one.

Don't say that!  >:(

Windows 8 and 8.1 are great continuations of Windows 7! If you don't like Metro UI, just download little program called "StartIsBack" or remove registry key and have standard Windows 7, but much faster!

I don't like offtop, so:
I have Win 8 now and everything works - from Bitcoin/Litecoin client, Electrum to mining on P2Pool and cgminer. 0 problems :)

The whole windows os is the shittiest os available on the market.
And you must be out of your mind for saving your currency on the most unsecure os of all time which is even spying on you.

That's the problem with Windows 8. It's a pretty good OS but it shouldn't force you to use Metro. It's just complicated and unproductive for PC. It might be good for tablets but not for PC.

You might be right but not everyone has the time to go through the learning curve that linux requires. And if you don't know what you are doing it's better to do it on windows than linux imo  :P

The trend of hating Windows is beginning to fade.
Although I have painful memories with every damn version I must admit 7 and 8 are really a step forward.

Windows 7 is more than amazing.Windows 8 well... I get that they wanted to make the ultimate all-platform OS but that kinda failed for desktop computers.
Windows 8.1 on the other hand is much better, but I am sticking to Win 7 :D

Windows 8 is considered unsafe to use.
Which version is considered 'safe' then? XP? 7?

A while ago I would have said windows is a fine choice. But now wih the revelations regarding NSA backdoors, I'd say these days you absolutely have to go with an open-source OS.

What do you mean by safe? Hackers safe or backdoors that even microsoft isn't aware of safe?

So if NSA can use the backdoor, anyone with this info can. Dont they have clue how dangerous it can be ?

I don't think that it's in any way in microsoft's interest to have backdoors installed intentionally. I mean the company will collapse if something like that ever comes out.
