I’ve managed to source a few copies of this.

In short, the Economist magazine predicted something similar to Bitcoin in 1988.
Up for auction is an original copy of the U.K. economist from 1988.

If you check out the history section (linked above) it appears that the magazine circulation at the time was roughly 250,000
