Title: Bitcoin Farming in Scotland
Post by: Boydie on May 07, 2018, 07:20:01 AM
We are based in Ayrshire south west Scotland, our locations are very close to west
Coast, about a quarter mile from the sea. Lots of cool wind, however once we install all 80 rigs it’ll need ventilation, currently got 50 rigs installed in 4 locations, getting enough power seems to be an issue in Scotland, we’ve now got 4 places with 3 Phase supplies, 3 x 63 3 Phase and one 200amp 3 Phase, getting a sub station is now our plan, power is expensive but still profitable, in it for the long term

Rig List
26 Antminer S9
24 Whatsminer M3
3 Whatsminer M3X
1 Antminer A3
10 1050/1060/1080 Ethereum Rigs (SimpleOS)

Challenges
Getting direct access to wind farm energy
Remotely restarting rigs

Good luck, great to have miners on the old continent too (I mean larg(ish) ones, there are plenty small ones - I guess)! Don't let one country slow down the network.

How much you pay per kWh (including taxes, transfer, etc.)?

I think you mean £0.13 during the day and £0.09 at night...  The difference is a factor of 100.

It’s any evenings and weekends deals, 8am - 8pm mon fri is 13p rest is 9p, there’s a new company offering 10p 24/7

You are brave indeed. 11p/kWh avg that's like 15c USD. 5x of the cheapest of the competition pays.

Good luck anyway, +1 for decentralization.

Stay on Topic folks or face the mods wrath... You want to discuss cloudmining - use the correct areas - this ain't it.
(edit: mods removed the cloud comments)
Back on topic, as always it boils down to cost of power. I'd think that Scotland and the rest of the UK should be doing well on that part. I keep reading about some pretty huge offshore windfarms in place with non-stop expansion of them. The cool winds should certainly help. If you are putting up a building for them, consider the 'Yahoo Chicken coop'. google it - will be the first things on the list that are not ads. Very efficient building designed with data center heat loads in mind.

What is the cost per KWH in scotland ?? i assume it would be maintainence free where you are :P

In my experience, most electric in the whole of UK, regardless of location is 10p per KW or more.  You can get day/night rates of, for example, 13p and 9p - but unless you've got a wind turbine of your own, or huge solar farm then you can't get it much very cheap.

I would love to be proven wrong if anyone has information to the contrary!  Plus I'm talking 100,000+ KW per year, not residential rates.

Is mining in Scotland legal?  I thought some countries are not endorsing this kind of business.

Scotland is part of the United Kingdom/UK.  They don't have any restrictions with this kind of thing and never will.

Other countries though may try and stop importing miners - such as Vietnam's recent announcement: https://blockspoint.com/vietnam-to-stop-importing-mining-equipment (https://blockspoint.com/vietnam-to-stop-importing-mining-equipment)

How much KWH do you have?

In my experience, most electric in the whole of UK, regardless of location is 10p per KW or more.

Is it same in Scotland?

The "UK" is the United Kingdom - which is made up of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales...

So answering your question, Yes it is the same in Scotland..
