Bitcoin Black Friday was a massive success.

Together, we helped make Bitcoin a household word for millions of people, and the Washington Post reported that Bitcoin Black Friday was “the most popular day in the history of Bitcoin commerce.” (1)

Thousands of news outlets covered the event, and many bitcoin merchants and charities got coveted press mentions from the likes of CNN, TIME Magazine, the New York Times, Reuters, CNBC, Mashable, TechCrunch, and Life Hacker (2). Ashton Kutcher, Cory Doctorow, Alexis Ohanian and hundreds of others joined our social media Thunderclap -- which helped us see over 100,000 unique visitors on Black Friday.

Wow. That’s left us feeling excited about what’s to come for Bitcoin, and thrilled to have been part of this with all of you. Here’s a neat infographic with some stats from the day that Jon Holmquist, founder Bitcoin Friday, put together.

We put a huge amount of time, money, and energy into making Bitcoin Black Friday a success, so thank you so much to those of you who are able to give back. We should also all be proud that we helped raise over 1000 bitcoins for a wide variety of charities that participated in Bitcoin Black Friday. That’s a huge amount of money that will be used for good. If you don’t think Bitcoin can be used for good, our charities received $50,000 more that they would have lost by accepting credit cards. Special thanks to the BitGive Foundation who helped rally the charity community for this event.
