Title: Bitcoin functionality question
Post by: awozny on August 10, 2011, 06:47:33 AM
Hello,

What happens if someone sends you bitcoins and your bitcoin client or bitcoind is offline? If the receiving address is not there what happens to the transfer? Does it get bounced back, how does the network handle this eventuality....just curious :)

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Trevor

Bitcoin is a distributed database of transactions. The coins dont "really exist".

When your client connects to the network it will download the last transactions and will see the received coins. You dont have to have an active client to receive bitcoins.

If you want to track the transactions of an offline address, use http://blockexplorer.com
