I like how the IBB does loans, but you guys have got to set some limitations to who you loan bitcoins. I see many threads per day requesting loans, and most of them are from low post, newly created accounts. Theft is bound to happen, which makes loaning bitcoins look like a terrible thing to do.

Honestly, you should require a certain amount of trader reputation before giving anyone a loan. There are way too many people around here who are more than willing to create a new account, build some posts up with "lol", "welcome", "agreed", etc. posts to build their post count to appear seasoned. Rep or no loan is the best way to go considering you are basically giving them something for absolutely nothing, giving them perfect opportunity to walk away smiling while you're wondering what happened.

agree with smoke and mirrors, when i saw all these unanswerd loanthreads, i thought u are helping kids buying "free" silk road stuff. ..

i also like your humanistic approach, but seriously, "i also ask for other info such as email address city name etc" you ask for it, in 5 minutes itīs made up..

i would go further, and demand an offical scanned ID.
u are a "bank", so why not ask ur customers for verification?

It's quite sad that people do this. It makes it harder for genuine, honest people to get a loan. It's hard to establish trust in a virtual world.

Well maybe they wouldn't be such jerks if they understood these aren't like credit money loans.
There is an actual loss.
Banks and credit card companies never lose capital in real terms.
Maybe I'm just being optimistic about ppl. though.

I remember in the early days, eBay had a motto along the lines of "people are basically honest". For some reason they don't seem to use that motto any more  ::)

I agree with you about actual loss. One of the good things about lending from here is that you are doing it with real people and not faceless corporations. Real people get the interest and it's a direct one to one relationship. It's not a mass of shareholders that profit without even knowing who you are.

Just for curiosity: did he pay back finally? tx-id?
If not, i wouldn't just leave it like that.

I also like the way IBB gives loans and I'd very much like to see it going on like this! If it is done via passport copy there shouldn't be any problems at all. It doesn't matter whatever anyone claims afterwards. If there's no cooperation to repay, just call for the cops ... that's the way it is.
Every scammer caught is a bless to the communtiy.

It's been said before but you need to have better criteria for these loans. It's a little disheartening to read these, especially since I'm about to loan someone some btc.
