Title: Trading $300 for your BTC. I am paying premium!
Post by: thefatcat on August 11, 2011, 07:44:21 PM
Just name your price.  only reason I am willing to pay well for the BTC is because I need it NOW.  I am moving in a couple days and need the USD or BTC, and after reading about bitcoinExchange taking weeks to finalize orders I decided I'd barter the moneypak elsewhere.

I do understand that someone wants fast dollars, but why you would like BTCs as your life depends of it...

Raeldi do you have someone, or proof of previous transactions so I can trust you? Will send email.

Raeldi and I are in the process of a transaction.  She seems to not like the idea of using increments, and wants me to send everything at once.  She seems kind and smart but I am suspicious.  Hopefully it all works out and I can up her reputation.

Just an update, I sent 100 to her, and want BTC in return, such as 8 BTC.  I suggest i send each 100 this way until she has $300 and I have 25 BTC.  She says to send all 300 and won't even send me 5 BTC for the 100 I sent her.

Should I dispute and run?

Just to clear the air here, I did NOT dispute the initial 300.

I used the 300 moneypak greendot to Xfer to paypal for the first time.   Apparently if you Xfer more than 250 they set some limitations.  These limitations include not being able to send fees, so the 300 I sent was retracted my paypal.  I contacted them and got it sorted out.  I sent her 100, now 200.  Apparently the 200 is held up.  I am in NO WAY a scammer.

My wallet doesn't show any BTC transactions, does it take longer to receive the BTC because it's higher than 1 BTC?

Okay.  Well I am going to watch some "Breaking Bad" with my brother (GREAT tv series, incredible).  I'll return in an hour or two and report back if I received the BTC.

The lesson is don't hurry to sell, even less to a user who has only a few posts and no reputation and don't buying from someone who is in a "hurry". Be careful and suspicious.

Seems Raeldi is from Holland and now there is too late, maybe she has gone already but fortunately you've made this trade through paypal and you know, chargeback, but she may appear in any time until tomorrow.

In the beginning I requested proof of her BTC.  Here's the pic she sent

https://i.imgur.com/t7171.png

The address in that pic is

1DyrWHVDrnredkQPdKbjaxMMatMLNLauY9

The "wallet" she used is

1516rnmGUDeF4vyBX3NDR5eXd22yKZdPHR

Going by that site you mentioned, I see no 25BTC transactions anywhere.

If you guys think I have been scammed (considering she said she sent the BTC, which you all saw) what's the best way to handle this?  Thank you guys so much for your help and feedback to a newb such as myself.

The address in the image is her receiving address.

And what do you mean by "wallet"?

Title: Re: Trading $300 for your BTC. I am paying premium!
Post by: thefatcat on August 12, 2011, 01:28:59 AM
In an email she said

"By the way, I'll assign the same wallet address to you as I use for the rest of bitcointalk.org: 1516rnmGUDeF4vyBX3NDR5eXd22yKZdPHR"

So I assume that's the address she sends it from?

By wallet I mean a BTC address that is handled online instead of the bitcoin client.

So if you look at her address she used, you can see the 1 BTC she sent when we were testing teh waters after I sent her $10, but there is no amount for 25 BTC.  Does this mean I have been duped for certain, or can it take time?  She said the amount was sent, but it does not appear that way.

Anyone seen BTC take so long to even show up in someone's wallet?

If it had been sent to that address, it would already appear in block explorer.

I'd give her a day to contact you here or by email.  Could just be a silly mistake, and waiting a day won't change anything with PayPal.

Alright, I will wait a day.  She was VERY responsive in her emails and seemed intelligent, coherent, and friendly.  She really doesn't strike me as a scammer, but I have been burned before and it sucked.

Thanks for popping in and giving your input guys.  I have a lot of bitcoin politics to learn.

You may get your PP account/funds frozen for 180 if you notify PP. I will never understand why people continue to  risk using PP for BTC transactions. Good luck to you nonetheless.

Can you explain why PP for BTC is frowned upon?  I do appreciate you taking time to respond to this situation, but could you elaborate?  PP would freeze my account for 180 days because I tried to buy bitcoin?

Paypal cannot verify that the bitcoins were actually delivered.  It would be like trying to confirm a face to face cash transaction.

So then, if she is scamming me I have a chance of getting that money back?  Even if it was moneypak money?  I just want BTC but this whole ordeal certainly taught me a lesson.  Hopefully she responds in this thread within 24 hours.  If not I'll end up contacting paypal.

EDIT:  Well it's been a long day, I'm going to sleep.  Hopefully I wake to gmail response from her, or a response in this thread.  If not my heart will sink and I will have learned trusting anon is foolish.

The only reason I can think of why you didn't get it yet is because of transaction fees or lack thereof. Maybe the person is waiting to make sure you don't reverse the transactoin. Maybe they are waiting to transfer the money out of their paypal account before they send you the bitcoins.

Other than that I can't think of any reason why you haven't had it show up yet.

indio007, she said she already sent the BTC.  Only reason I haven't contacted paypal (besides being advised) is she was kind, articulate, and bright.  I didn't think she was a scammer, but the lack of BTC says otherwise.

Hopefully there's a reason for all this and no harm is done.

PP does not permit buying/selling BTC or other virtual currency as reported by several members a few months back after several $5k+ accounts were frozen for 180. I have not verified this in the recent PP terms but I recall 8 - 10 cases of this over last few months.

Aside from PP prohibiting virtual currency transactions, then you have to deal with chargebacks when selling BTC for PP and/or any potential reversals by the sourcing financial institutions.

That is why there is a big fat warning stickied on the marketplace subforums not to transact via PP.

Also, if the BTC seller indeed sent 25 BTC it would show up on the network in a few seconds (3 - 10) after sent. It would be included in the next block at earliest and could be included several blocks later but typically my sends land on the next block (with no tx fee). Once included in a block it will be visible in Block Explorer (http://blockexplorer.com/). If a send is not yet in a block it can often show at Bitcoin Charts (http://www.bitcoincharts.com/bitcoin/). If after 15 minutes or so it is in neither it 1) likely has not been sent or 2) sender not connected.

She sent me an email asking if I received the BTC.  she said she sent the email through her phone cuz her internet it out or something.  Anyways, I told her no I didn't and there's no history of her sending it.

Told her to hop on the forum and send the BTC.  Hopefully works out.

When can I contact paypal and you guys consider it OKAY, so I don't appear to be a scammer?  She hasn't posted in this thread since she said she sent the BTC.  She said her internet is down and is sending emails via cell phone.

And when she told me to send the money she said to put "for Bitcoin, the virtual currency" in the description, which I responded saying no, I shouldn't because paypal doesnt like BTC.  She insisted I put that in the description which further leads me to think I have been scammed.

Input is greatly appreciated.

ffuentes, I have sent money via paypal before and was unable to get it back.  It's quite possible.  If she sends the BTC I will send back the money.  But it's obvious this is bullshit.

EDIT: not to mention yesterday, before I sent the money, she was responding to my emails literally within 30 seconds.  It's been hours since she has responded, and does it not seem a little odd that she hasn't posted on this forum since she said she sent the BTC?  Trust me, I really do want the BTC but I am not going to stand by and watch $300 of my money go to some scamming *sshole.

Title: Re: Trading $300 for your BTC. I am paying premium!

I contacted paypal and claimed fraud.  one of the $100 i sent was as a personal gift, so they can't get that back.  The other two 100's are under investigation.  I can't chargeback because I used moneypak to fund the paypal account.

Looks like I have been scammed and I'll be surprised if I get any money back at all, since I am at her mercy.

Let me be a lesson to anyone new to BTC, don't rush into buying BTC without a trusted source, and if things seem fishy, just back out.  I should have known something was up when she (or he for that matter) insisted I type bitcoin in the description.  I should have known something was wrong when she wouldn't send me BTC for each $100 I sent.  Yet I went along with it anyway (mostly to avoid being labeled a scammer).  Now I am out of $300 I needed for BTC for my move across the country.

Scammers are pieces of shit.  She was quite polite and kind but apparently all kinds of people will f*ck you over when they're anonymous.

Why don't you just buy from an exchange, say www.cavirtex.com or mtgox.com, if you order a large enough amount Mtgox will wire you the money and cavirtex can do a email money transfer via canadian banks. That is the most reliable way to ensure a smooth bitcoin transaction.

I wanted to do moneypak because I had such great success with "trader steve".  It was so quick and fast.  Money wire takes days, and time was not on my side (I am moving by tuesday).  I learned a $300 lesson, and it sucks.

I will use Mt. Gox when I have the money again.  For now I gotta lick my wounds and figure out how to get some $ or BTC before I move.

I am moving across country for a new job.  (going from east coast to west coast).  I start in 10 days.  It's a nice computer engineering job, so  this $300 won't matter down the road, but right now I just graduated from college and am very VERY broke.

I have addison's disease and need to take cortisol  to keep healthy and it's not cheap.  I was going to purchase cortisol using Tor and have it shipped to my Arizona location, so when I arrive I won't have to deal with finding a new doctor, making an appointment, and gettting my medication while juggling my new job.  I contacted my dick-head doctor from Florida and he said he will NOT send a script up here to Atlanta, GA (staying here with my twin brother before I move).

So my options are drive 12 hours out of the way to get cortisol from my mother (same disease) or doctor, which adds 24 straight hours of driving to this already long trip, which sucks.  I can try to get my mom to mail me some cortisol, but she's afraid of the law.  Or try to make some $$ and go to a doctor here in Georgia, but it's already Friday, and I doubt I'd be able to find a doctor to pencil me in for Monday.

Obviously money was already an issue so it looks like I either drive to get the cortisol, or I go without it for a few days until I can get an appointment in Arizona.  Granted, not taking my cortisol doesn't mean I will die.  I have done it before and actually didn't feel bad other than shaky.  But it CAN be potentially fatal.

Sorry for the rant, just having anxiety about it all and pissed at myself for letting my money go and putting myself in a situation that's going to cost me 24 straight hours of driving.  I know, could be worse.  But losing 24 hours of my time and $300 really sucks.

She may claim innocence, but how do you claim to have sent BTC, when it never was sent?  Trust me, I really REALLY want this to work out, and I didn't want to have to contact paypal as of yet, but all signs point to SCAM.  If anyone of you were in my position, I think you would have done the same.  But in the grand scheme it's a waste, if I do get my money, it'll only be $200 and it won't be until my job.

EDIT:  Also, I have been watching her activity.  She's been on this site multiple time TODAY and hasn't said anything via email OR this thread.  Does that not scream "RED FLAG"?

Let me know.

All of this looks strange.

I need about 25 BTC.  TECSHARE said he will assist me.

Ffuentes, this is my first time with BTC.  I needed the BTC asap so I can order the meds and have them waiting for me.  Even a day without cortisol is dangerous.  My understanding is mtgox takes days, as apposed to minutes if I trade with someone like TECSHARE.  I am risking cash for speedy BTC... And lost

Someone through an open vendor market on Tor will be supplying me for a hefty fee, if I can get the BTC that is.  If you read my earlier post I can not get the cortisol because my doctor won't send the script to one of the pharmacies here in Atlanta, Georgia (he is in Florida).  Apparently the DEA is cracking down hard on doctors, they aren't even allowed to write anti-biotics to their own family without getting backlash.

So I can either drive back down to my hometown to get cortisol from my mother, or my pharmacy.  Or  I can buy the cortisol and have it mailed to my address I will be moving to, waiting for me securely.

I just drove all over atlanta and no greendot moneypaks are available (only the shitty pre-paid debit card things).  Anyone have any suggestions?  I really don't want to have to take 24 straight hours away from my schedule, but if it's between that and potential E.R. visit, i'll choose the drive home.

TECSHARE I'm sorry I can't find the correct moneypak, I will continue to scour Atlanta for them.  The CVS said they sold out within a day.

Yes, believe it or not I went to walmart in Atlanta.  They said "we've had issues with them, we no longer carry them".  I went to two CVSs, a Walgreens, a kroger, and walmart.  CVS said they sold out in a day.  Walmart, kroger,  and Walgreens said they don't carry them.

I willl search again within an hour.

Does anyone else think it's strange that she replied to another thread today, but hasn't responded to this thread?  A thread accusing her of scamming and she doesn't even try to clear the air?  It's fair to label her a scammer, beware everyone.

And thank you for your kind words Stefani

I found moneypaks!  Just waiting on his response and I'm good to go.  Thanks everyone, and I hope that scamming scumbag gets what he/she deserves.

Thanks TECSHARE.

I assure you and everyone on here I will be one of the most honest people you will ever meet.  I am a little trusting which does more harm than good, as can be seen in this thread.

Looking forward to learning the ways of bitcoin, and thanks to TECSHARE I don't need to worry about my medication.  As soon as he sends the rest of the BTC and I get 5 BTC from his friend I will be more than relieved.

Guys its time to start using Escrow services for trade, better to deal with people who have either a solid feedback/reputation on transactions. Stay away from paypal as ppl can just pay you with hacked/stolen accounts. If you take paypal you will be burnt.

Look at other web currencies like Liberty reserve or other gold currencies. That way you get paid you stay paid  no charge backs.

Cheers,
Wes.

I think a reputation system needs to get built or used.

I've been trading hardware over the net and we used Heatware.

I trust heatware and never had transactional problems in the 80+ transactions I did.

Of course, bitcoin might require something more sophisticated.

heatware is the greatest!

i started a buy-n-sell classifieds forum with a feedback system, it's Bit-Coin-Trading.com (http://bit-coin-trading.com/forum/index.php?action=refferals;refferedby=1).  Having feedback points attributed to a user would obviously make that person more trustworthy.  Both parties would have to be members of the forum, however.

1) Yes, always use escrow!
2) Never just assume someone is trustworthy because of proper grammar. I've written many essays (4-5 pages) on how Social Engineering works.
3) I, along with a few others, plan to start developing a Web-of-Trust solution for all traders. It will be a lot faster than using http://bitcoin-otc.com/. I find it a great site, but insane waiting time to register. So, the site in mind will be an instant register. But you have some sort of trust to be able to +rep or -rep someone.

If you look through my post, I've made one somewhere about my idea.
I'm heading on vacation Monday, so that night I'll start working on it.

Sorry I been away.  I wanted to update you guys.  Sorry if i'm reviving an old thread or dragging this out.

I contacted paypal.  She's been unresponsive to me.  So for sure she's getting my $100.

The other two 100s paypal contacted her about and asked her for shipping info.  She gave some random BTC address?  Something tells me she's not responding to paypal.

Hopefully I'll get my $200 back in 10 days, if I'm very lucky and she's a moron.

The $100 is hers now.  Again, LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES PEOPLE.  She nearly costed me a whole lot of trouble.  Fortunately there's some great members on here.  TECSHARE is a great guy, he really did save my ass and he must have been on for 8+ hours with me getting my last BTC so I could get my meds.
