About

Coin Ninja seeks to accelerate the global adoption of bitcoin through educational content, relevant news (http://coinninja.com/news) and simple/easy to use products.  The first of these products, our Block Explorer, has just been launched.  In its early stages and our primary focus was to develop an explorer that was first and foremost extremely fast and reliable.

Our engineers designed a system to process information from the bitcoin network in real-time. Bitcoin is more than just a currency, at its heart is open source and free software. As such there are many different options to choose from for interacting with the network. Ultimately, our team settled on the reference implementation provided by the Bitcoin Core team. The reference implementation gave us several advantages over others:

  • Under active development
  • Thoroughly tested
  • Keeps up with Bitcoin Improvement Proposals (BIPs)

The downsides of using the reference implementation are few in number, but present interesting challenges that we have overcome:

  • Not designed to index arbitrary address information
  • Minimal interfaces to process raw bitcoin data
  • Functions as a full node _and_ a wallet

This means that it is a fantastic Bitcoin full-node and wallet. However, it is not good at exposing data about the blockchain.

To find the right balance of overcoming these shortcomings, our team set a few objectives for the block explorer’s use of Bitcoin Core.

  • Make as few of modifications as possible to the bitcoin daemon (a piece of software that runs in the background).
  • Do not modify the processing of information — consensus rules and network interaction code are left untouched.

Our team has developed a system to index information about the bitcoin blockchain, in real-time. The possibilities for this system include faster exposure of important statistics to power-users, traders, exchanges and merchants. The engineers are hard at work on feature improvements, application of recent data science technology and predictive behavior.

Feedback
We would love to know what you all think of the explorer (and would certainly take any feedback on other areas of our site).   This is the preeminent community of Bitcoin enthusiasts and will take all feedback into close consideration as we iterate on this and our future products.

Thank you for supporting bech32 addresses.

This is now my favorite Bitcoin block explorer :)

I really like this. The layout is really quite nice and indeed is fast.

Please let me know if you are looking for any help with development, I am currently looking for a new project to get involved with.

It's pretty fast, it has all the info I need, I like it. I may start using it instead of the over-crowded blockchain.info

I have, however, 2 proposals for improvement:
1. Please use more readable colors than that fluorescent green and light blue in address / tx pages.
2. It would be nice to see in the address page, in the list of transactions, the current address in a different color.

All in all, nice job!

I like it! Shared feedback to see if the colors can be tweaked. I think it reads fine on my iphone, but agree on my desktop, the colors are less readable.

Good suggestion for the current address having a different color.

Many thanks!

2. It would be nice to see on the address page, in the list of transactions, the current address in a different color.
In addition to the above, I would like to add:
3. Use different colors for sending and receiving.
4. when you click on an address, it takes you to the same transaction on the page of that address and not to the beginning.
5. use small ninja icons.
6. It is better to write the value of transaction besides the address and not under it.
Good work.

I also found something that may be a bug (or two).
For a certain address all the transactions from the past are in the same day, excepting one, unconfirmed. Yet, the unconfirmed is neither the first nor the last (it's 3rd of 4!).
Also, while refreshing, it has shown 1 confirmation for a short time, then it came back to the correct unconfirmed.

Edit: The transactions are shown as being from the same day, they are from different days. Now also today's transaction shows as another day. It looks like you've messed up the dates.

Nice to see this. Good that you added support for bech32 addresses.

Few things:
  • Bech32 P2SH addresses are not working -  https://www.coinninja.com/address/bc1qwqdg6squsna38e46795at95yu9atm8azzmyvckulcc7kytlcckxswvvzej
  • Its really not fast, when scroll down to see transaction the loading thing is slow/jumping the screen and is really irritating. There should be a continuouty and smooth flow (see https://imgur.com/)

Many thanks for uncovering these! I've passed these issues along for prioritization.

Its really not fast

It's fast in other parts that matter more. A transaction of mine is still unconfirmed on blockchain.info, while my wallet and coinninja show 2 confirmations (first one came 8 minutes ago).
As soon as the colors will become better on PC this will become my main block explorer.

Also I like the fact it's refreshing the number of confirmations without refresh, however, it would be even better if it would do this for unconfirmed transactions too.

I really like its UI.

Few errors/bugs and suggestions:

1. The "Total Received/Spent" amount, is incorrect for some of the addresses (it shows more).
2. It only lists up to 100 transactions (on "No. Transactions").
3. Not listed in proper order (transactions).
4. Only shows 20 transactions while viewing each of the addresses (random order).
5. Give the "magnifying icon" (on search bar) a function (upon clicking it), instead of hitting the "Enter button".

We are working on those changes to the block explorer. In the mean time have a sneak peak and what else we are working on.
