This Group Buy is for the Neptune 3,000 GHS KNC Miner.  The Neptune for this GROUP Buy has been paid.  It's one of the earliest orders and a DAY One order so we are sure to be one of the first to get the units.  My order number is 120XX so it's one of the early units.  Note: this is the unit from pre-public sales so it'll arrive 3-4 weeks before the ones on sale to the public.

The price per share has been lowered to .6 due to increased BTC price.

I will be hosting the unit myself so the I added a little bit to the cost to include the fees I expect.  

This group buy is intended to let forum members take part in the opportunity to purchase cheap hash-rate through the recently launched KNC Miner Neptune(https://www.kncminer.com/products/neptune) company located in Stockholm, Sweden. The unit that the shares relate to is the KNC Neptune advertised for 3,000 GH/s (https://www.kncminer.com/).  

I have structured the purchase so that members wanting to get access to the exceptionally cheap hash rate/GH that the Neptune offers can secure hash rate from one of the machines without paying the full purchase price.  Each share you purchase will get you that percentage of what the Miner generates.  All utility and maintenance cost will be paid by me.

Offering:

- 32 shares of BTC .6 each are available.
- Each share is worth approximately 100 ghs of hashing power
- Each share entitles the owner to 1/32 of the BTC proceeds from a KNC Miner Neptune mining 24/7 for 20 months*, payment will be made to the address of the shareholders weekly. (* Miner breaking after 12 month warranty, random acts of nature like datacenter burns down etc.,internet downtime, not covered in 24/7 for 20 months(should not be a problem))

- After 20 months we will consider decommissioning the miner if it is no longer profitable to run.
- Also the group as a whole will have ownership of the unit.  During our group ownership, if an opportunity presents itself to sell the unit early, we will put it up for a vote.  If more than 60% agrees to sell the unit early.  We will sell and everyone will get their split according to the shares they own.   I personally feel this is the fairest deal and it’s what separates us from other offers.

- The unit will be properly cooled at a temperature of 67 degrees 24/7.  The unit will also be connected to a UPS at all times to ensure there’s no electrical issues.  
- Electricity, UPS, Power supply and other material required to host the units.
- All hosting and support services will be handled by me.

KNC Miner says the delivery date is Early 2014.  They don't have a firm date yet.

These units have been paid for on Nov. 26th, 2013.  They are part of the Group 1 Preorder group.  They will arrive 3 - 4 weeks before the units that were available to the general public.  These orders sold out in 2 days I believe.  The general public orders just sold out this weekend so it took those orders close to 2 weeks to sell out.

Only 23 Shares left for Group buy 2.  Also if BTC prices continue to fall, the price per share will be moved up.

Maybe you should consider splitting the shares, some people don't want to have to put in the whole .55 especially with other group buys being a bit cheaper (I think I saw one for 0.4 btc for the same amount of GH though I doubt it is a first day order)

I only want savvy investors.  Most would realize that having the unit a month earlier would almost double their profits.  Also less investors, less work in calculating the payout.  The second group buy will sell out soon.  I'm not too concern.  Besides I keep what's left for myself.  :)

Eligius pool is 0% fee, and merged mining with name coins. Would you consider thinking about this change?

p.s. if say i bought one of these 3 th/s miners, and started it at home, how reliable are they? as in crashing, heat, reboots...   I would be gone a lot working overseas, would the smart wife of mine know what to do if say, we lost power, or it had to be rebooted

Or do something 'clever' and add 1 pool per share on each miner, and set it for load-balance mode

Then you could let each shareholder mine 1/nth directly to their own preference :)

The Miner is designed to be plug and play into the network, until something goes wrong.  If all goes well, it can run for days/weeks without any issues.  When there's issues, you may need to understand some basic Linux to troubleshoot.  But if there are no issues, it's just plug and play and you do the occasional update via the web browser.  I didn't have that much issue on my previous 3 Jupiters from KNC.

To answer your pool questions.  No you do not need to sign up for a pool. Also you will not need to download new coin wallets.  We will not produce enough to distribute to each wallet.  All alt coins generated by mining will be converted to Bitcoins and totaled into the distribution.

Good luck if you choose to buy a Neptune.  Their second batch has already sold out though so you'll have to wait for the third batch.

That would be a bit of work to try to get these KNC Miners to accomplish that.  If you want to take on the task of creating this program.  I am sure many out there will pay you a fee to use your development.

On another note, Group buy 2 has sold out.  Groupbuy 3 is now available and is on the same order as Group buy 2.  So it should arrive the same time as Group buy 2.

I am still sorting out the orders and will post an update on the thread in the next few days.

It's a standard 'feature' of cgminer - you just put in all the pools, press C, take option 3, save the config so it's automated ...

Well first off I should mention you would want to use balance if you were to do this, load balance only tries to balance the pools based on how fast they respond and not absolute values, furthermore it isn't exact tbh it really is just sort of a waste of time. So I strongly suggest you DO NOT DO THIS. Just mine at eligius and send out payments every week, it really isn't that bad I mean I can't imagine you having more than 30 shareholders. Eligius just requires a bitcoin address for the username and you are set, no registration needed, the only thing you have to do to get the merged namecoins is verify your account by signing a message and then you can change the address link + the min payout amount and add a namecoin payout address. I mean if you want to save on transaction fees just use a coinbase account and then all your transactions fees are payed automatically and it is free to sign up.

Hi ScotterMonkey, I had a second order that has 3 units on it.  This was place later in the evening so my order number for the second 3 is a bit higher. They are Neptune units not Jupiters.  We're all taking the risk that KNCminer will deliver on time.  They had a great record with my previous Jupiter orders so  I trust them.

I agree.  It's probably easier to keep track with one account.  Sending out payments to 20 - 30 people can become a chore.  I'd like to not stay up too late when doing this :)

So it depends on difficulty.  And difficulty goes up about 20% every 2 weeks on average.

hi lmontrose, I`ve quick read the thread but I haven`t seen any mention of a refund policy in case KNC doesn`t deliver, can you elaborate ?

If KNC screws the group buy, there will be no refund as it's a risk the group takes.  This will be the same with all group buy.  No one can afford to refund everyone if the Miner doesn't get delivered.  But based oN Knc's history, they have been reliable to date.  No guarantees though :(

You have to stay in contact with your groupbuyers. Nothing is worse for the situation than a groupbuy organizer that doesnt get back to the members. You can await that very fast rumours appear and fears lead to a doom loop that goes in a direction no one wants. Im sure you saw such groupbuys already since there are groupbuys of all kinds on bitcointalk.

We are waiting for the spreadsheet and getting nervous.....

I've heard of forum admins using IP address + Internet Provider/FBI to track down thieves in the past. I don't know if the guys who run this forum have done this before. May be jumping the gun and lmontrose is just indisposed spending the tons of money we all gave him.

yea and I have a good friend that is an FBI detective that I'm sure will take btc, ltc and money from my checking account to track this guy down if he is a scammer. I just dont want to jump the gun, as lmontrose may be having some kind of personal issues. But he shouldnt have started a group buy if he does. I just want my .6 btc refunded and he has yet to reply.

Yes the last newletter from KNC does not state any guarantee dates.  They did say they may provide free hosting if there's any delay and also that the power consumption has been lowered.  Which is good and bad news.  Might mean there could be a delay.

I'm good with them hosting it till they can get them all out if that's what they have to do. Plus you never know you may get more THz than your expecting also when they do finally get them out. Look at the last batch they put out, almost twice the hash power. Just saying.

I was interested in investing in this group, and decided not to because OP had zero credibility or anyone vouching for him, and passed. Why did others trust him with so much money without any indications of trustworthiness? I would be really surprised if he wasn't gone with the money, and wouldn't buy shares at 10% given the disappearance of OP. Consider the money lost, if I am wrong all the better.

No one is offering you a share at that kinda discount.  KNC refund process is straight forward enough and I believe it is time to open up the discussion with lmontose on whether we should agree to wait or go ahead with that.  A hosted option offered by KNC has not materialized yet but they have a farm online already I have heard.  My vote is to refund - 1 share.

lmontrose doesn't check this thread.  You have to PM him, which sends him an email.  Responding here does not send him an email and apparently he doesn't have time to check this forum.

Beyond that, if he's legit is anyone's guess.  He never provided the list and has remained quiet about everything so it could be a scam but he still logs into this forum.

The threads lmontrose posts is reason to believe it is not a scam.  While avoiding this thread is just very lazy.  Modern day miners can be plenty lazy it seems.  He confirmed tht he was aware of the request for a spreadsheet to me via PM a couple weeks back at least.  I would like the question of refund from KNC to go to vote as I know there is that option until the shipping, and it seems there are more than a few here that listed shares for sale..

I second that, at least I can get back .6 btc to put toward an antminer which is a lot less btc value than when we paid lmonstrose the .6 btc.
The lack of communication and given the money we have sent and no spreadsheet showing payment is unacceptable, there are plenty of people here that have run successful GB that he could have asked for help.

We can't have a vote unless we know how many folks are invested in this, thus the need for a spreadsheet.  If the guy is too lazy to make a spreadsheet, how is going to be trusted to send payouts?

I also vote for refund I mean, at this rate we won't be able to have a ROI over 100%

Neptune on track

In related mining news, KnC’s Neptune miner appears to be on track – the new bitcoin ASIC taped out earlier this month with everything going according to plan.

KnC says the Neptune is currently in the foundry phase; that is, the ASICs are already in production. However, even if something goes wrong, KnC has a ‘plan B‘ in case of any major delays.

The Neptune is expected to reduce power consumption by 43% thanks to the use of a new 20nm node.

In addition to the new manufacturing process, the design has been optimised too, allowing KnC to squeeze 1,440 cores in a 55 x 55mm package. To put this in perspective, Intel’s 4th generation Core chips feature a 37.5 x 32mm package and they are manufactured on Intel’s 22nm node.

KnC says the Neptune ASIC will deliver at least 3TH/s, operating at 0.7W per GH/s.

He hasn't logged in since March 8th.  Honestly, I think this is a scam.  While he has checked in previously, the fact that so much time has passed and he hasn't posted up the list just makes me think that even if he IS legit, he's not going to distribute people's funds reliably if he can't put the list together in months of time.  Plus he never posts in here even after people have PM'd him and brought things to his attention.

Those gold rush days of Dec/Jan were intoxicating.  Personally, I drank too deeply from the goblet of greed and couldn't send in my BTC fast enough to buy shares in this scam.  Having now sobered up, it's fairly obvious we've been had.

If this is legit, it's the worst ran Group Buy in history and the dude seems to have a phobia about communicating with others.

Sooooo basically this is one of four things, the first being that lmontrose is the worst group buy hoster ever and is just being too lazy to actually do anything other than fap and ignore emails, the second being that lmontrose somehow has become extremely busy over the last period of time which is why he hasn't been able to do anything at all but is going to make good on his promise of hosting the group buy, the third being that lmontrose actually bought those Neptunes which he now essentially got for free and he can thank us for that, or the fourth is that lmontrose decided to fake a group buy and now has a lot of bitcoins thanks to us.
And while I hope it is number one or two I think options three or four are really what is going on here.

This is very likely a scam but we're not totally sure about that. By know and before KNC shipping or hosting, I think we should at least give him some negative trust votes (for what it's worth) and waiting for him to get back.

It's a scam.

I lost money on this too.  By saying he upgraded to Titans he can drag this out for months longer before vanishing.  Plus they aren't even in the same price range are they?  So how could he afford to upgrade to them and still compensate everyone who purchased a percentage.

He's provided no evidence of anything and hasn't even put the list together.  Even if by some miracle he was legit and just lazy like that other dude said he was, the odds of this lazy guy actually distributing profits to everyone are near zero based on his terrible management skills so far.

Just one more loss for me in the Bitcoin universe.

Actually the Titans cost the exact same as the Neptunes so there is a possibility plus the ship date for titans is Q2/Q3 so eh maybe we will see something of this after all but don't get your hopes up.

 Neptune Wafers Have Left The Building

News Update On Neptune Production

We're pleased to announce that our ground-breaking 20nm chip development process is moving forward as planned.
The wafers for the first of our Neptune deliveries left the fab yesterday. Next stop is the packaging house, to turn the wafers into actual chips, so they can be mounted on our boards.
There are still a few steps to go before delivery, including power consumption measurements, thermal stress testing and general tweaking, but stay tuned as we'll soon be able to announce final delivery date for the first round of Neptune deliveries.
Graphics for our Neptune housing is being finalized as well, and we've included a sneak preview from our Art Director Robert, at the top of this post.

Can anyone write me whats needed, if even trying to get a machine is worth it anymore?

At the moment, because the Bitcoin price is so low, it's better to buy coins and hold them.  Maybe when Bitcoin rises above $500 each, it might be worth investing in hardware, but the margins are too risky and low right now to bother mining.  Unless you need some electric heat in your house.
